The Artist Relations Room at the Guitar Center in Hollywood, CA was set ablaze when Joe Satriani visited and cranked out a few songs. Fingers cooled, he sat down with Nic Harcourt for an incredibly intimate interview.
Check out the full Joe Satriani podcast, and other great podcasts, at www.guitarcenter.com/podcast.

I think we should thank T-Bone Walker since he was one of the first or the first to common use electric guitar and popularize it, experiment on it profesionally. Electric guitar was a new invention and it was just a curiosity at first. Probably without him, we wouldn't have blues and jazz on electric guitars in the form we all know and love and as we all know blues nad jazz influenced almost every kind of guitar music. People who also took electric guitar because of him: BB King, Chuck Berry, SRV. Playing with teeth, playing behind your head, blues solos as we know it, all T-Bone Walker ideas. He literally changed the guitar music forever. The name worth remembering since I barely hear guitar enthusiasts talking about him. Greetings

15 or 20 yrs. ago I heard this song for the first time. It was so so elegant and melodic it didn't need words. I had to find out who this was. Finally the guy on the radio said it was Joe Satriani. I had never heard of him but I HAD to listen to more of his stuff. Soon I heard Surfing With The Alien and I was hooked. Also really dig the G3 thing he does almost every year. Joe is a real humble cat and has a great sense of humor besides being completely down to earth. What an incredible talent....

+Thundergod129 Not your fault. I asked a family friend of mine, he said that Satch wasn't too famous like Van Halen, Slash etc... in the 80's. He said he just heard of Satriani just a few years back. I think he needed someone to help make him famous. Just like how Ozzy helped Randy Rhoads become famous.

Ive been dreaming of learning it properly since a kid and when i finally played it from start to end without mistakes, i literally started crying. tears of joy of course, mind you, i ripped a stink 1 right at the end so that could've partly explained the tears. But nevertheless im stoked :)

Thank you soooooooo much Joe. I have searched for hours trying to find this song. ( I remembered it to be called Waves for some reason hence could never find it ) I heard this on the radio on 2DAY FM when I was only 13 years old, I'm now 46 later this year, and listening to this again brought tears to my eyes. Why ? Because it took me back to that time, a happier time before the stresses of life, before a mortgage and before all those adult responsibilities that we face as adults. A time before my beautiful mother was diagnosed with the heavy onset of Alzheimers and needing to move into a nursing home. For the entire duration of this track, I was free to be that kid again. Music is not just the recording of an instrument being played, well not when it's played like this anyway. It has to have soul It has to have meaning It should move you It should hit a nerve in your body that makes you jump to attention yet sooth at the same time It should bring back memories of when you first heard that song It has to grab you by the heart and drag you through hell and bring you out on the other side I hope I keep my manly respect when I say this but it brought watery stuff to my eyes. Brilliant mate - just brilliant !!!!!!! So thank you so so very much, SINCERELY THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart mate. Don't ever stop doing what you're doing. Cheers

I love the new key. It's really cool and exciting when guitarist's play certain songs or pieces in different keys or tune down their guitars. It provides a much different mood and set of tones that are unique to that tuning or key. Amazing music, and mind blowing feel.

I remember when I first heard this on the radio back then I was a young lad and as usual they (radio) won't tell you who's the artist so I ended up looking for it at the tape shops spending my week's pay for a year. At one point I had the attendant ripped all the guitar music tapes and still couldn't find it. This is the most elegant piece of music ever created in my mind even after hearing it for a thousand times.

This video is so clean and Joe Satriani as always plays so flawlessly, and with these great camera angles, it’s a guitar lesson in itself for any guitarist who wants to learn this song. I can’t wait to use this as a reference while learning it, especially the more complex parts. Such a perfect performance by Satch, the guitar god.

One of my very favorite Satriani tunes! It's so good it almost brings tears to my eyes..since it makes me think about a girl I had a crush on for a long time...and possibly could have been my wife but she died... :(
