It could be put in churches too! Casting stones has killed several people too! Brother and sister better than you are in most churches and boy do they like to throw stones! I don't have time to walk in anybody else's shoes, because it's hard enough to walk in my own!

They are. This is based off a well known poem by an unknown author. Men with Broken Hearts. "'ve never stood in another man's shoes Or saw things through his eyes Or stood and watched with helpless hands While the heart inside you dies. So help your brother along the way No matter where he starts. For the same God that made you, Made him too, these men with broken hearts

@@slimbarentse Thanks Slim. He's the second brother I've lost to addiction. At the first funeral in 2003,'Ivheard people say how many chances he had and how he wouldn't listen and a victim of his own decisions. I put a good deal of thought into this and just happened to be playing a 70's hits track and the song Walk A Mile came on. It was what my brother would say to me and did on many occasions.

I first heard this song on the bus going to South Stanly High School in North Carolina. This girl named Kitty Swanigan had a portable record player and she played it going to school on the bus. All the kids on the bus was quiet on the bus when she played it , I think this song spoke to the hearts to all of us. Our bus carried 7th graders to high school Seniors on it. It was a great experience in my life as well for the people that rode that bus. Thanks to Kitty who played it and for Joe South for recording this song. Iconic !!!!!!

Sadly isn't it always the way...the truly " Good" people rarely get their due! Sometimes it comes after they pass....sometimes not always. Maybe because they don't waste their lives living for accolades but loving their fellow human beings on a level very very few of us these days even attempt. Can you imagine for even just one moment all the good that could be accomplished by those here leaving positivity on KZbin comments if we were able to ALL come together to make a REAL DIFFERENCE to humanity. People on social media NEED TO STOP THE HATE & VITRIOL and as the great Jackie DeShannon gracefully warbled " Put a little love in your heart!". Peace & Love 2 All

These days we don't hear prolific songs like these anymore. The world has turned, the shallowness of people. The world is moving too fast, as people are living with high stress levels. In the days of Joe South, people had time to listen and were interested in songwriters points of view of life.

Welcome to the Age of Music! Sure there were good songs before and after the the late 60's/70's. But if you start talking to your parents/grandparents about music back then...I am sure you will hear some pretty crazy things. Life/music was so different back then. As long as you didn't go crazy, you didn't have to worry about a boot on the back of your neck. It was year after year of great music. When you think about it...music IS a time machine. The only thing that I know of that can instantly take you to another place and time just by hearing a few notes. Enjoy life, it really is worth living for. I still to this day will bast out singing out loud if I hear Hang On Sloopy...really any song I recognize. Singing is just Good for the Soul!!

WOW!!! I have been listening to this song since 1970. It was my dads favorite and I took the lyrics to heart. It has to be my mantra. I had no clue this video existed. Thank you so much for posting it. Sadly there are people who cannot fathom this concept. If I were running for a political office it would be my campaign song.

I have 2 cd's of Joe South, I read in a review that on one of the albums that there were alot of "filler songs." I don't even know what they meant by saying that. If you put in the cd, go on a short trip, listen to all of the songs & listen again you'll actually learn the lyrics & grow to adore the rest of his songs besides the 3 or 4 "most popular. His songs talk abt his childhood, growing up, a little abt faith & some more abt relationships. I love music that makes you feel good esp when they're telling a story. His songs have been used by many dif ppl & he sang them better than anyone. I do find myself listening to the cd's over & over when I make that 3 hr drive every month to visit relatives. So to me the songs that you don't know, try to listen & you'll eventually be singing along.

When l hear this song, the significance is so important that Elvis Presley performed it. Before it came out, there was a battle in Vietnam 1966. Rubber plantation, Australian 6 RAR. Masively outnumbered fought to broken arrow status. Jack Jewry was KIA just finished saving somebody else. There was a huge funeral for him in my hometown. I was young but i remember that my older brothers said, we will never walk in his shoes.

This song is from the perspective of a human being who feels compassion in ways most fail to. We all know people who focus too much on their ego & leave their souls to collect dust. Why is it so hard to stand together and live for one another? Let love in ✌🏼what a timeless song
