Ditto sk8...Here I am a black thirtysomething AfroCaribbean dude in Miami FL and I feel the same way you do. Ever since I heard this song, it has done something to me. I usually listen to roots, rap or reggae, very little rock but this song has reopened the genre to me. And I was even more moved and impressed when I researched the song and its artist. Normally I don't write things online but felt compelled to express and add on to the greatness of this song. PEACE

Joe Strummer is my own personal hero. The Clash got me through my teenage years unscathed. I never could've made it without them and without everything Joe declared them to stand for. The movie Rudeboy threw me back a little but over the years Joe earned so much trust and respect from me and his music with the Mescaleros was fantastic. My children will be named after him.

His biography is so sad. I read it about 4 years ago and after the re-union show with Mick Jones there were real contemplative efforts to make a Clash reunion happen. The only concern they had was for Topper to stay clean. No-one expected the blindside of Joe's death that December. RIP Mr. Mellor

I think Joe loved that the American people were/are so friendly, what he was bored with was the whole American scene dominating the music market. And probably the whole Cold War thing.

No doubt...this tune has a West/Central African vibe especially as the chorus comes in...its almost like a "call and response" tune from Nigeria or uptempo bluesy track from Louisiana. I could hear Femi Kuti singing over the same music...I dunno, great song though

Excellent. I was a huge Strummer fan through Earthquake Weather. Then I stopped listening. This will make me buy all the Mescalero stuff. I'm a musician and I learned about chord changes and song structures from the Beatles. Then I heard Strummer and the Clash and he put the energy and beat into my music.
