Joe was the greatest ever. Had the great pleasure of meeting and chatting with him a year before he passed. He was such a nice guy who took time to talk to me in the street. Didn't have to.. thanks for everything Joe, you are my guitar hero...

Don't know why anyone would want to give you the thumbs down for that comment. Jo was imperfectly perfect. We love him still for never giving up on us. Prophets come and go through out History. Thank God Jo touched My life. 'I hear what he's saying....'

I've meet Joe in Toronto Ca. and I will say that he was truely amazing. He loved his fans %100. After we talked I felt like he was a friend of mind, not a musician I'd seen earler that night. He was OUR voice. He was the voice to those who felt voiceless. Unless you appreciate Joe, you will not understand.

There has never been anybody like Joe, and probably won't be ever again. I'm grateful for the time we did have him but still really sad he left so early. He's the greatest musician I have ever heard... at least to me. I just wish I saw him live at least once.

I remember when this guy was paintin' this tribute to Joe outside of Niagra (a bar on teh corner of 7th St and Ave. A in Manhattan East Village). It was an amazing thing to see everyone gather around and share the stories of Joe. He used to hang out there and was friends with Jesse Malin who owns it. So after this was painted whenever I'd go dj our soul night in the basement of the place, we had St. Joe smilin' down on us. I still get choked up watchin' that video.

I was lucky enough to see the first clash show in NYC at the Palladium in Feb. 78 (God, 29 fucking years ago!) and I also saw Strummers last show in NYC in Brooklyn at St.Ann's Warehouse. In between I've seen many concerts but these show remain the best I've ever seen. We miss you Joe, but you left a legacy of music that continues to change the world. Rest in peace my brother.

When I was 16 I saw The Clash on their first American tour. When the concert was over my friends & I were speechless (not to mention deaf). Mid to late '70's music was pretty dull and The Clash (along with a few others) literally shook it free from that dullness. They melded punk to reggae and hip hop and ska and practically anything you could think of. It's impossible to imagine music since then without them. Hope that helps to explain what he did that was so great.

simmyuk, Joe, through his music and his genuine concern for humanity, stood for the downtrodden, the underdog, the regular "Joe's" and "Jane's" in this world who have no voice, or a weak voice, and who each day have to fight for their right to survive and live with dignity and respect.
