I hate you Alan hahah not really but I would have liked to see Joe Strummer, or Joey Ramone live, and this is one of the things I wish I had seen, I hope I can still see Mick Jones, Paul Simonon or John Lydon live sometime, for the moment I've conformed with seeing Iggy Pop. I was born at the wrong time period. I saw Marky Ramone up close once but he left as soon as he could because he's such a "rockstar".

Glad it was a benefit gig for Firefighters as well m8, its as Clash as it gets, Especially Joe's last London gig ever n Mick getting up, playing White Riot (of all songs) with Mick 😂 and Londons Burning... Proud they done it there n then n not for any other reason. They sounded superb with Mick, like he had never been away 👍❤️

I ended up at this gig almost by chance, happened to see it mentioned in a local paper. Joe Strummer and Mescaleros Firemen strike benefit gig Acton Town Hall. I lived about a mile away then and had nothing on that night. I went up there but of course all the tickets were gone. There were Firemen collecting money in buckets for the strike fund outside and one of them saw me trying, asking about tickets. He ran after me and said "I got a spare, put a fiver in the bucket"...result, I was in!! I was buzzing for weeks after that night.

37 days later... He was gone. This public reunion gave credence to the rumour that Joe and Mick were working on writing new songs together, and had moved on from their differences - The lyric mentioned below " Are we going backwards, or are we going forwards?" was a poignant nod to that process. Thanks to the hero who filmed and posted this amazing piece of history!

I was there at the front and he was grinning away and loving it...we all were in the crowd!..looking at each other going "is this happening?" Mick plugged into the spare channel on Joe's Roland jazz chorus amp, with one of the spare guitars on stage..it seemed totally unplanned... an amazing moment to cap off a storming gig.

The universe is weird, wonderful and beautiful. It, by accident, brings Joe Strummer and Mick Jones together in 1976 to give us the Clash. It then, 7 years later, throws them apart only to reunite them in 2002. Bless you both --- the world, the universe, was and is better off for these cosmic accidents.......

The finest "hold my beer" we will ever see, one made in heaven. To hear about this was great, to see it on video amazing (thank you whoever did this excellent recording) but to be there must have been heart stopping. Mick genuinely blew Joe's mind... the lyrics of 'White Riot' are all over the shop😂 he can't get a verse right😍 he's so taken by surprise. Lucinda who traveled home with Joe said he was very quiet, for a long time, then just said how amazing it had felt. Thanks to all who were involved in showing this to us not lucky enough to be there🙏🏻

the beatles comparison fits (and i'm not the worlds biggest beatles fan). both produced lots of music in a short time (beatles recording from '63 or '64 to about '69; the clash from '76 to '82, not counting '85's 'cut the crap), both started off primitive (wanna hold your hand/white riot) and were forever evolving. strummer=lennon, the edgy, political, icon with the voice that you instantly identify with. mick=paul, melodic tunesmith. for both bands, the whole was greater than sum of the parts!

Tough to watch this video because had Joe not passed away I think a Clash reunion would've happened. Joe had hinted at it being possible and seemed to want it. Paul seemed the only one to have moved on but it would've been amazing to see them for just one final performance. Sadly Joe passed away but before he left i'm glad he had the chance to play with Mick one final time. I think Joe's passing re-ignited the passion to play music in both Mick and Paul since both have new bands now.

Dude, you don't know the story. Joe Strummer was laughing when he fired Mick Jones. They always remained friends to a certain degree. Joe was just tired of Mick being late and lazy..... and Mick didn't blame him. They were friends for years before Joe died. They never reunited because Paul and Topper both had health issues, and Paul wanted to leave the past the past.

Mark ONeill This is correct. The semi animosity really only lasted one or two years. I think Big Audio Dynamite’s first álbum came out like 2 years after Mick left the Clash. Not only did Mick invite Joe over to play the album for him before the release, but Joe was in the video for the single from that album, Medicine Show. Joe also produced BAD’s second album. It’s still a big deal that they played together here. Joe always wanted to get the band back together.

Brilliant! I wish I'd been there. This was a benefit for the Fire Brigades Union and Mick was a surprise guest.

Oh hell call it what it is, this is The Clash, heart and soul. Not taking anything away from Topper and Paul but this really was it. It's the spirit.

Yeah but spirit only gets you so far. Strummer needed Jones and Jones needed Strummer. They both needed Topper and Paul. That's the way great bands work. It's alchemy.

Arguably the rhythm section was just as important to The Clash's sound as the dynamic between Strummer and Jones was.

@@LeGrandeOrange Mate, with such statement on "how (un)important was Topper and Paul in The Clash as a rhythm section..", you've just show how little know about The Clash. Just listen what Joe&Mick's been talking in any interview on Topper's importance and drumming skils in late development of the band, as well as Paul Simonon importance.

@@LeGrandeOrange Perfection is a lot of little things done well. Not to mention we wouldn't have tracks like Guns of Brixton or Rock the Casba without Paul and Nick
