I had the same issue. Im a regular full time giging musician who use to party. I also liked working out and being active. But as you get older that lifestyle isn’t sustainable to have it both ways. I was worried that I wouldn’t enjoy playing music sober. But I had to pick a lane. Im not one to be able to moderate with alcohol, because I use to have that same butterfly feeling bert has with alcohol. So I decided to give up booze and go healthy. I lost 60lbs, My panic attacks went completely away, and now 2 1/2 years sober I love playing live music more than ever. because now im more focused and alert, which means i just perform better, and I enjoy that more than being drunk and playing. I could never see myself going back to that lifestyle. I feel like bert might be coming to that crossroads soon.

My best friend was a lot like Bert. Life of the party for sure and universally loved by all. Big guy and the whole persona to go with it. We were veterans and partied all around the world together for many years. I was never "addicted" to alcohol but I also definitely did love to drink and party. Especially with my best friend. Then in 2015 he just up and dropped dead one night at his house while partying. 47 years old and just like that he was gone. A couple of months later I was having a beer with my cousin on the 4th and I was thinking about my friend when I suddenly realized that I just didn't "feel like" drinking anymore. I got up and poured out the rest of that beer and haven't had any alcohol since then. I tell people it's not even like I quit per se. I just don't want it anymore. It's really just not worth it and looking back I think Americans have been sold on a lie that alcohol has an upside that really isn't there for most people. Most "drinkers" are kicking back crappy beers and poison that is definitely killing them whether they realize it or not. Is there a place for a glass of wine with dinner and/or a nice whisky now and then? Sure, but that's not the experience for most people if they're being honest with themselves. Most people are guzzling buckets of toilet cleaner quality garbage alcohol and thinking it's "refreshing" or something. As they say, you live and learn, if you're lucky enough not to die first.
@GlorifiedGremlin2 жыл бұрын
Most people who will only have that special occasion glass of whiskey, or a glass of wine with a meal that pairs with it, usually they say "oh I don't drink" that's how I am. I've just never been interested after I got out of my binging party phase as a teenager. I don't get the appeal

It's only natural as your perspective changes with age. Or else it's likely you'll have simply failed to age. Best of luck

Joe just came right out and said it……”when he dies” and Tom wasn’t ready for it. It actually sunk in, for Tom, at that very moment and it affected him. Bert will see this and it might actually be just what it takes

I was that guy who could party and drink. When you stop being that guy, you only lose the people around you that don't really matter anyway. Bert just needs to look at Artie. His friends and his fans didn't abandon him. They were pleading with him to get help.
