Joe Weider, who called himself the Father Of Bodybuilding, to my knowledge, never won a physique contest while Dan was well established and well known for his wins.
@turbogear77766 жыл бұрын
Crash course time on the obvious: Maybe he was more in line with the father of lies. If Weider followed Hitler then he also followed the Pleiadians, in fact it was the Russians who exposed the Natzi's direct involvement with these interdimensional entities aka "The Pleiadians" in an early documentary which spoke of the origins of the Natzi involvement with these beings who travel around our atmosphere in flying saucers. These so called Pleiadians showed the Natzis the mind control propaganda tactics that they eventually used on their own people and on the rest of the world, the same mass control propaganda tactics currently under use by the U.S democratic party. ...and for those that decide to take a second look into who exactly these so called "Pleiadian extra-terrestials" are they'll discover that Ashtar Sheran is at the center of them as commander in chief and if we unscramble the name hidden within that name you'll quickly realize that Ashtar Sheran is none other than "Satan" himself.....which is why the Pleiadians have members like "Semyase" onboard among them, Semyase together with the rest of these evil ex-angelic beings were spoken of in the once banned Book of Enoch. The book of Enoch was originally supposed to be part of Biblical text but the powers that be of the world (Vatican and the rest of em) did'nt want people figuring out who exactly is behind these flying saucers and what "extra-terrestial aliens" really are and the fact that these entities were the same self proclaimed "gods" that swindled all advanced ancient civilizations into thinking they (these rogue beings) were the creators of humanity when in fact have always been manipulators of history and Dna since the days of ancient Sumer therefore they were'nt creators but geneticists who intermixed God's original creation. Now you understand why early abductees and contactees like Billy Meier and Travis Walton had their reputation/credibility attacked following their encounters with these same beings, of course the black gov did'nt want the general public associating Nordic beings with Aliens since one would uncover the other's identity. If anyone discovered who the Nordics were during that time then they'd also know that "Aliens" are a class of Demon...and vice versa if anyone disovered that that these ex-angelic beings were working alongside small Demons then they'd also know that these angels are Satan's angels who were banned from the third heaven millenia ago. If Lurie spoke the truth then Weider followed a tactic that was devised by Satan and his "Pleiadians", it does'nt get much more direct than following Hitler...and now we understand why Jewish bloodlines were targeted by the Natzis. it's only common sense that Satan "Ashtar" wanted them wiped off the face of the earth. That'll give you a jist of what time it is today and what happened to Dr Karla Turner for exposing the true nature of "Aliens" during the early 90s. Furthermore it's a known fact that only the name of "Jesus" (only by those that have verbally declared Romans 10:9 in faith) has the power to stop so called "Alien" abduction. That was exposed not only by suppressed gov studies but by an ex-Mufon worker...and all is on youtube. It's safe to say that Bodybuilding (the loving of self during the last days *2 Timothy 3:1-5) was an idea inspired by Satan through Weider. But hey nobody wants to hear that shit right?? and I'm guilty of it because we only look at it as a sport...from a flesh point of view. Good information by Nick.

Side note, for what it’s worth. When Bob Kennedy was having financial troubles, decades ago and was about to lose everything, the only guy who was willing to step in and help him was Dan Lurie. He lent him enough cash to keep his business and magazine going and saved him from bankruptcy. It was Dan. Decent human being, in my opinion. Weider apparently stole from him, twice, at least.

Dan Laurie actually had real muscles not paintings and fake statues with muscles added on.I bought my first Barbell set from Dan.My father drove me to Utica Ave. when I was 13 where the Lurie Barbell company had its offices.I met Dan and he spent an hour with me and my Dad gave us a bunch of training course and workout posters.He was very gracious and I will always remember him taking time out to help inspire me to a lifetime of training.Dan was one of the true pioneers of modern bodybuilding!

Richard Young I too remember the Utica Ave Store. Growing up in Brooklyn in the 70's, 80's - Laurie's name, equipment and magazine were just as familiar to me as the Weider stuff. My first gym membership was R&J Health Studio on Ave. U in Brooklyn- where another famous Jewish bodybuilder held court for years- Julie Levine. I still remember the sound of real iron clanking and smell of industrial carpeting when you walked in the place! Now it's just one generic gym after another with no character or individuality. Shame

Hi Nick, Dan and i became good friends in the later part of his life. We would talk every week and meet up for lunch or at one of his fundraisers. A really decent man with a wonderful wife and family whom he adored. Just to put one thing straight, the Mr. America contest was called just that from 1940 when the AAU started running it. Back then they also had sub divisions such as best arms, best chest etc.and also the most muscular. So a person may not win the overall but win a bunch of body part awards or most muscular as Dan did every time he entered. In the overall he was usually 2nd. Now not only did Weider screw Dan but so did Bob Hoffman. Bob had a big say in the AAU and his guys won every year. When Dan went up against Jules Bacon in 1943 he lost to Bacon because the judges said Bacon had better posture.Not taking anything away from Jules but anyone can see by looking at photos from that time who had the better physique and was the better poser. After losing to Steve Stanko in 1944 he said he knew they would never let him win the overall title so decided to concentrate on his business. Actually Dan said he did not really have any malice toward Joe and just wanted to set the record straight.When Joe hurt his back Dan called him in hospital and wished him well. Even in his later years he had a sharp mind, good memory and a great sense of humor, and many interesting iron game stories to tell. His real pride was his family who are all talented people in their own right. His legacy lives on through them in the form of community and charity work and his grandson Tyler who runs his own MMA gym and is a personal trainer.

In 1980 I went to Dan Lurie 's store on South Conduit Ave to buy my first set of weights. I was 20 years old at a 130 lbs and very eager...when i went inside i was very intimidated buy the guys there. and Dan himself was there and saw me and said " hey Butch..how you doing" he was so nice to me..He told me i had the perfect body for working out because i already had the V shaped chest. i bought a 120 lbs set of his steel weights..Dan made sure a fellow worker helped me to my car with the weights..his send off words to me was "don't worry your gonna do just fine."....I left that place driving home on cloud nine. God bless you Dan....I still have those weights and then some..today.

I definitely believe that Mr Lurie was the real deal and the person who originally named the IFBB. In my opinion Mr Weider was some sort of dictator, Trying to knock off all others Bodybuilding organizations like the WBBG, AAU and even suspending and punishing any Bodybuilders who would compete in any other organizations like the NABBA - How many times did he suspended Sergio Oliva and many others - Imagine really Sergio competing in the 74 or 75 Olympia!! - That would had been great to see but Weider hated him with a passion. In the January 1967 Issue of Muscle Training Illustrated (MTI) Mr Lurie wrote an open letter challenge to a Bodybuilding contest to Joe Weider in which he declined. I can tell you this Mr Lurie treated Bodybuilders very fairly and he was a very honest man God bless his soul. I actually saw Sergio Oliva train at the Atlas Gym in Jersey City, NJ back in 76 and he was unreal - The Atlas Gym was like the Gold's Gym of the East in the 70's - There I saw Serge Nubret, Chris Dickerson, Tony Emmott , Joe Spooner, Dale Adrian train and many others! All of this guys competed in the WBBG. - Thank you very much for the Video Nick!

When Weider left Union City, NJ and made California the center of the bodybuilding world, Lurie pretty much ran the New York City area. His magazines were amateurish compared to Weidets, but had lots of good content.

Great video Nick! This rivalry and especially the '70s Golden Age time period for bodybuilding aficionados fascinates most of us and Sergio Oliva became Dan Lurie's successful pioneer and protege after the '72 Olympia where Weider switched the judges and they gave it to Arnold 4 to 3. Sergio partnered with Lurie and won three Mr. Olympus Titles, a Mr. International and two Mr. Galaxy Titles also of Lurie's WBBG. The "Mr. Galaxy" name was used for an episode of "Charlie's Angels" that featured Ric Drasin and Roger Callard. People may argue Sergio had less competition in the WBBG but as you pointed he was struck from competing in Weider's IFBB anyway and that's why Sergio had a "fuck Joe" mentality, bitter for years. It looks like Weider did a masterful job at both blacklisting and demonizing Sergio and Dan Lurie while being business savvy promoting Arnold, Lou, then Frank Zane as a mass appealing physique. If Sergio had opportunity to compete after Arnold left in almost any of the IFBB Mr. Olympias against Zane, Columbu, Dickerson, etc., from 1976-1983 how many more could Sergio have won? Weider dominated publishing and won as an "entrepreneur", jerk hijacking or not from Lurie. Do one on Bob Gajda the 1966 AAU Mr. America and 1966 FICH Mr. Universe and Sergio Oliva's training partner and competitor of the 1960s. I'd bet if you called him he'd be willing to be Skype interviewed on your channel and may have even more insight on the dynamics between Lurie and Weider. Story about Dan Lurie: I was in Arthur Jones' office in 1972, Arthur's wife was opening the incoming mail for Nautilus. Included in the mail was a bounced check that Lurie had written to Nautilus for a book or something. Eliza asked Arthur what to do with it, and Arthur said "I am going to auction it off between Dan Lurie, Joe Weider, and Bob Hoffman." I don't know if he ever did or not.

As a resident of York, Pa., I'm also familiar with the intense rivalry between Bob Hoffman (York Barbell) and Joe Weider. He hated Joe, and if you read any of the old editorials in Strength & Health or Muscular Development it was obvious. I think Bob sponsored some of Dan's IFBB contests in York.

I knew Dan. Interesting guy. I was at the 69' Olympia when he jumped on stage to say that Sergio uses his supplements. He was more of a scruffy kind of guy whereas Weider was more shrewd and calculated. (though he was smart enough to make 110 barbell sets available in department stores and introduce a generation of kids to weight training). Much of his claims are true, though I do believe there was a bullshit element to some of it.

Back in the early 70's is when I grew up around Dan. I went to his gyms. I even went to " Mid City gym in Manhattan, NY. Dan seems like a kool guy where Joe seems ( all business ). Joe's magazine had me fooled. I was wondering about the difference between the bodybuilder in Joe's magazine than Dan's magazine back then. Me being a teen thought all natural because ( roids ) was kept in a closet . Back then bodybuilding was about have ultimate health not drug use. I knew two of Dan's lifters that was in his mag.. No roids he just ate alot. I was sad when Lou left Dan to follow Arnold in Stardomeship.

Dan was a very versatile athlete. He did boxing, Karate, Judo Wrestling and other sports. Joe Weirder was a pretentious bragger who made it like he was professional. He was good at marketing, but he didn't have the heart like Dan did. Dan was still flexing his muscles even at the end. Joe never really showcased his physique instead of using props and paintings. As for as muses go, Dan wins.
