There are not enough words to define Joe Zawinul. No doubt he was a genius, but this is still an understatement. He was bigger and will be dearly missed. Thank you Joe, for your magic music and extraordinary creativity. I can say I was fortunate to see you in a live experience, which I will never forget.

I was very fortunate that a friend put a band together for me ,His name was Eric Udel ,bass .I went to his joint on central park west and in his studio room was one picture on the wall.Joseph Zawinul , or who referred to as "the Master "I'll never forget looking back at the drummer who eric called for a second gig in nyc .And said man that aint no jujubee that is Mike Clark , the head head hunter ..! i had to adjust to that .I thought Eric was putting me on .the night before i checked head hunters album photos and I thought Mike was a black guy due to his 70s fro.ROP eric .RIP Zowbeedoo.Mike played with Chaterjee , who i chant to have play with us in the Swamis Mitel Band one day . Zawinul took us to the next level .these groves are so intense they make me remember how deep this human experience is .what other artist did that.he was not product he was as rel as real gets .I am glad zowbeedo stole that accordian

One of the four keyboard geniuses spawned by Miles Davis’ group of the late 60s - but the only one to entirely focus on electronic instruments later on.
@kevinr.35424 жыл бұрын
Herbie, Keith, Chic and Joe. That is an amazing roster of keybaord players as it is.The four pillars of modern jazz keybaords. Then you remember earlier he had Bill Evens, Red Garland, etc. His sidemen were all giants and that's just keys. Too bad Keith Jarrett swore off electric instruments entirely other than his brief tenure with miles. It would have been cool to hear him in a Rhodes or something. I especially love hearing tasty synth solos in jazz. Joe was the best, or Herbie
@richardthurston21712 жыл бұрын
For me Joe is the one whose work with electric instruments endures. His very organic approach to electronics still sounds as fresh as when he made it back in the day. Herbie and Chick's synthesizer work pale in comparison. They were/are brilliant on acoustic instruments (saw them at Umbria Jazz in 2013 playing duets mercifully without synthesizers, and they were brilliant) while Keith had the good sense to leave electronics alone for the most part.

@richardthurston21712 жыл бұрын
@@djweetabix1079 Don't take it personally. I am only offering an opinion. I saw all these bands back in the day and, for me, Weather Report and Joe hold up the best in 2022. I wish I had seen the version of Return to Forever with Joe Farrell, Flora, Airto, Stanley and Lennie. That was quite a group and, for me, infinitely more interesting than the electric version which followed. In no small part because of Joe Farrell, a much more interesting improviser than Al DiMeola. But it's only my opinion. Cheers.

allenlevelle wrong - he has one song where he sings i Austrian, the " Erdäpfel blues" (potato blues), and the scat in the opening of the Sporting Life album (again Austrian, not German) otherwise he does not scat or sing in Austrian - and never in German. His early scats, and many of his current, are just his own bebopng language, but I think certain of the tunes has some kind of language behind it. Probaply things he picked up on his extensive travels.
@NickyBendix9 жыл бұрын
Nicky Bendix Of course there might be other tunes he has sung in Austrian over the years, but it's not his usual thing, like in this concert, to sing in Austrian.
