Have to say I'm a big fan of the 4 series Gran Coupés, especially the 440i, would be interesting to see how this performs against a 435d which obviously has a load of torque but of course has that diesel powerband. Love that B58 engine in my 340i especially matched to the zf 8 spd sport auto box 😀 Got to have a 6 cylinder in your life at some point. Pretty damn good on fuel these days as well for a 3 ltr!!!!

I own the lci version and the 19" wheels look superb. This car brings a smile to my face every time I drive it. The exhaust note is awesome, especially on start up, hot or cold. It's such a practical performance car. One thing I have noticed is a "pinking noise" under acceleration but main deeper says they all make that sound, interested if you can hear it Joe. Looking forward to the full review. Great video as always

Great video as always. I've looked at the 440i Gran Coupe and love its looks and quality feel interior. I've not managed to drive one yet and coming from a history of front wheel drive hot hatches I'm a little worried about safety and basically getting into an accident. This will be a family car so safety is important to me, so how is it to drive in the wet i'm especially thinking with winter coming. I hear a lot of BMW drivers particularly of the more powerful cars stating that they have a complete set of other alloys with winter tyres on. Is there really the need to buy winter tyres for these cars? Cheers and keep up the good work.

Bought myself a new 430i gran coupe x-drive a couple of months ago. Came from a 2017 Golf R with 300hp and the bmw with 252hp and more weight definitly is alot slower but the overall feel of the car is GREAT. Just a pitty that i have a on going problem with water leakage from the front passenger doors window seal. It comes in around the top part of the side mirror. Will leave it to the garage for the 2nd time now for the same problem. Really hope they can fix it. Frameless dorrs are nice but not so much when they leak water.

You forgot to mention the frameless doors, they are one f the main reasons this model looks so cool. I was also considering the 4 series grand coupe since i don't like the 3 series for it's look and dimensions but the M140i has so much value for the money and is also available as a manual, well that made my decision.

Great video Joe. I think the standard colours on 3/4 series are a bit bland so colours like this purple and san marino blue stand out and look fantastic. I recently test drove a 440i and loved it, but eventually went with an Audi A6 BiTDI. Videos like this really aren't good for my buyer's remorse!

I'm sure the 230i would feel quicker and less underpowered due to its lack of weight compared to the 4, my issue is M140i deals are so good they would probably work out cheaper than a 230i and with more standard spec. But I also understand the 1 is a marmite car :-)

What are your thoughts on 435d xdrive as the best of both (or all) worlds - performance of 440i, grip of xdrive, decent economy, and the looks of the 4 series gran coupe which, I agree, is probably the best looking car in the current BMW range.

I've not spent that long in a 435D xDrive. They're a fair bit more expensive, offer similar performance, xDrive and slightly better economy (as you say). They sit on higher suspension and weigh a bit more so some of the handling dynamics are blunted. Would be a hard choice though...

the 435d in gran coupe form is 4.8 to 60 and the 440i to 60 is 5.1. The torque of the diesel is unbeatable, the diesel is the faster car. And because its x drive it deletes the m sport suspension so a better ride

Yeah the B58 is sweet! No idea re economy yet, guessing it will be similar as it weighs about 250kg more. I have averaged around 27mpg in two years.

Cheers man! I had a proper drive of it today in the dry, its really quick, but a M140/240 would walk away from it, especially from lower speeds where the extra weight is felt...

Nice! Bet it was good to finally get out in the dry! Yeah the figures would suggest that but you never know with BMW as they always have their product hierarchy. I guess the optional MPPK takes it to on par performance with the 1/240 then - 360bhp I think off the top of my head. Must admit though, after driving a 430d xDrive and the M4, anything 3er and above the interior is just so much better than the 1/2 and ride quality I found to be much better too

They don't make them anymore, think its getting replaced by the 6 series GT... I know the recent 5 GT's ride and handle somewhere between a F10 5 series and a F01 7 series, heavy cars but decent ride.

Good question! You wouldn't get nearly £12k discount on the G30 so it still separates them in that sense. The 440i feels far more sportier than the G30 540i I had recently... I really don't know sorry man!
