Mr L77yma 🤣 think we all know that it means it’s not a great looking car with that sort of statement. I really can’t see the need for it, if you need bigger than a 2 series you buy a 4 or 3 series?? I’m also a bit bitter that bmw have sold out on their core values these days, had 5 BMW’s in a row, by haven’t bothered this time around!

I’ve just returned my M240i after three years. My dealer wanted me to upgrade to a M135i or this M235i. Upgrade, are you having a laugh 😂 design failure, engine failure. Customer lost. Good review though Joe 👍

II'm not sure about the English word, but it has too much sheet metal above the rear wheel. It makes the car looks strange/heavy with wrong proportions.

Fwd based junk. I don't want a Mini JCW as a BMW. 4 cylinder, automatic only is disappointing and the styling is dreadful. Then there is the fact that this "BMW" has torque steer which is unacceptable. Good for a Kia something. Bring back the rwd. I will only consider a BMW if it's rwd

Totally agree - I am a BMW driver but an ugly mini in disguise isnt for me. I used to own a BMW M135i back in 2013 but I wouldnt even conciser a 1 series now!

BMW Have gone berserk with the Ugly Stick with this one....... Whoever designed that Grill was obviously Pissed Up. When he went to get it signed off, he was in Luck, Mr Sign off was pissed as well. just to make sure the Designer gave Mr Sign off, a Man Sized line of Ketamine, just to make sure it went through........

Hey Jo - re the busy - I get what you mean...that said I have just swapped out of my 2020 Mini Countryman JCW to an M235i with 19s - strangely to me the Mini was more busy on its 19s and that was supposed to have some tiny offroad capability - the seats in that were firmer - I find these ones more comfortable despite what the Americans seem to say about them - they also say its really firm - I disagree in comfort, its not a waterbed for sure but its quite comfy - I guess I am used to sports suspension! I havent done 100 miles even yet so I cannot comment too much re sport... what I would say is to me the M light should have more beans than the mini JCWs in my view - and less than an M (M2 etc) so with that I think I will add a bit too it. Mine is Black - looks great - I like the hatch - but I do like this with a boot - makes more sense to me personally but I am 5ft 8 - the wife is 5ft 6 and we have a 7 year old so no sloping roof issue for me! :) What I would also say is I think you should do another video on this - you had it for no time at all - you can even use mine (once its bedded in) if you like - I think it deserves a more comprehensive review - you hardly even drove this one ;)

I forgot who said it originally, but I dont understand the '4 door version of a 2 door version of a 4 door car', eg take a 3 series (4 doors), make a 2 door version (4 series) then add 2 doors back... BMW really are cashing in and M cars too and they dont feel rare/special anymore. Quality cars yes, but just not quite as limited production as I'd like on that front.

Can you add adaptive cruise control on this through connected drive after you've taken delivery of it? I've noticed all the new 1 & 2 series all have the radar square plastic thing on the front but alot don't come with the adaptive cruise control from factory?

Sorry, BMW, as I’ve been a fan for many years and owned more than a few, but the 1 and this 2 GC are for badge snobs, not enthusiasts. I haven’t seen that many new 1 series out on the road and they’ve been on sale 6 months now. There’s tons of M135i models pre-registered and ex-demos for sale 2nd hand, sorry, ‘pre-owned’ on BMW’s used website (at least here in the UK). Pre-reg ones are typically £30-32k rather than £40k or so new. Says it all, really. Hoping the new 4 series coupe and 2 series coupe due this year/next year re-discover some of the BMW magic that seems sadly lacking in recent releases. The new i4 looks potentially interesting too, so fingers crossed.

Always a good video from you Joe but BMW's current exterior design language is a disater visually. They are going in a really awkward direction, difficult proportions and grim details. I like the wheels though.

The rear ergonomics are shocking. That rear end is a disaster. You never had to find a ‘good’ angle with something like an E46, or make apologies or excuses for it. The design of it was border line, restrained, handsome, perfection. Germanic (dare I say). Now BMW have lost that. Now they look like they could have come from Korea (not a slight against Korea) - they just no longer have that restrained Germanic brilliance (aesthetically) that made them in to the brand we all grew up with. Still a ‘good’ car. Perhaps the BMW we need, not quite the BMW we want...
