My school has a three step process which is Run- if the person is not near the classroom, Hide- If the person is too close to the classroom, and Fight if they are in the room or are trying to get in. The hiding part is not just lock the door and curl up in a corner though, the teachers are trained to block the door with desks and stuff... I'd say its a pretty good technique, and wonder why it isn't implemented in every school.

In the UK our government restricted access to guns after Dunblane in 1996, so we've never had these drills. Some sporting, muzzle-loading, and historic guns are still legal but most are not (apart from in Northern Ireland). That said, the official advice to students in the 1960s was that if a nuclear b**b was dropped on their school they should duck-and-cover under their desks!

well sure, but the odds of a school getting destroyed by a tornado are extremely low. most tornadoes would do close to nothing to a school. and if a tornado did do damage, it would be safest to do what you do in drills. In my senior year of high school (2021), our fire drills changed, whenever the fire alarm (when we had planned drill they would set it off) went off we had to WAIT and just sit in class like everything was fine until the teachers got a notification on their phone and the app was ass half the time it didn't even work so we had to wait with the fire alarm blaring until admin finally realized the app wasn't working, it happened multiple times lol, this was all because they were afraid a school shooter would pull the fire alarm to get ppl out of the classrooms. Also, we had A.L.I.C.E. school shooter drills. Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate. It ended up being all of us just fucking around talking about how we would beat the fuck out of a school shooter.

I live in Ottawa, Canada and I grew up doing regular lockdown drills, only I didn't think they were for shooters. Because I don't live in the states school shootings were not a thing I was worried about growing up. I can count on my hand the number of incidents this city has had in the last 30 years. They always made us think that lockdowns were in the event of an unwanted stranger somehow getting into the school, when in reality it's almost always a student or recent grad.
@fluffygryffon153 Жыл бұрын
My school has a lot of issues with the fire alarms either going off on their own or being pulled for a very minor kitchen or lab incident (kitchen fire/ gas leak). They always tell us when it's a drill but 99% of the time the alarm got pulled was an accident or some dickhead kid. It might be real but we never run. We just take our phones and walk out into the snow.

11:31 - If every kid in the school apart from those in the 'special assembly' knows, the kids in the 'special assembly' will find-out (either from overhearing, or from seeing them all head the same way) - then you've got a load of kids who may never have held weapons before all penned-in to one room and misfiring in the vague direction of the door! And if 1 non-streotypical one misses the assembly then they will know which one place everyone is trapped in! If the stereotype has an innocent brother/sister/cousin who wants to protect them and tells them what they missed then this also fails horrifically.
@Ceezmemefn08 Жыл бұрын
That’s the tricky thing about school shootings you really can’t do much else except hide besides running out of the school if You have the opportunity and the shooter is not near you but if the shooters in the hall, you don’t have much other option except maybe run out the window or something or probably hide idk. Teachers will also say to fight back if they don’t have a gun or instead have a bat or something. One of my teachers has bug spray in her classroom bc it basically works as pepper spray if it gets in their eyes.
@rebecca3647 Жыл бұрын
My high school had a b0mb threat, and the faculty had us all walk slowly to the football field. I think if there was an actual b0mb, everyone would've been screwed. And when it comes to fires, I've had some experience with fire incidents as an RA. Technically, the RAs are supposed to go to the first floor and get a card that tells us which door to hold open, then go to that door. I won't lie, during the actual fire incidents, I just tell every resident I pass by to get out of the building, and then I go to the closest door myself. And with tornado drills, the thought process is that 1) the hallways have fewer or no windows or other small objects that can be easily thrown around by a tornado and 2) getting closer to the ground should (hopefully) make it more difficult for strong winds to lift you up or knock you over

While I was watching this video, a greatest idea for a school lockdown drill came to my mind. What if in every classroom we have a hidden vent on the floors in the corners. Like the classrooms that have the floors are made up of these hard slabs have suction cups so that we can remove a slab that hides the secrets vent, and for the classrooms that have rug floors, you just pull the rug and then put it back in and have all the vents be big, and have those vents lead out the outdoors and have the school not telling anyone about this other than the staff so that the intruder doesn’t know about that.

And if you’re not inside a room you’re supposed to just run away from where the sh***** is at. Which in my opinion is miles better then sit behind dry wall and try and guess who the imposter is.
