Did you know to wake up you have to have a specific level of dopamine to even be able to wake up. There is a period in you’re sleep where you are unable to wake up unless of a dire situation in which adrenaline can take over the function dopamine has. “The great stare” is actually a side of effect of Sleep inertia. Which is caused by having barely enough dopamine, cortisol, and certain hormones to wake up. What wakes you up is known as the SCN which is an optic in your eye that detects sunlight which even works through your eyelid. Alarms can disrupt SCN. SCN is the natural form of waking up, and when disrupted can put you in a groggy, moody, and detached state. School making you wake up so early forces you into this endless cycle that can lead you into depression. Many Kids and Teens when done with school want their own free time. Sadly school hours don’t allow for this and thus people stay up later than needed under the hour they need to be at school by. This is one of the major flaws in the current school system. Fast forward I’m 25 with a 1 yr old daughter and I truly understand what being a parent is about. What Joe says is more true for larger colleges. I go to a smaller college and by my second semester of Freshman year, I knew at least one person in all of my classes. Things are also closer together so if you’re in the wrong building, the building you need to be in is like a 2min walk away. Classes for me are also about the same size as they were in HS with no more than 30 people in a class
