Just not as much in recent years. The jazz infused with his "political" 🙄 takes made it all the more powerful. A full album of jazz/R&B infused with exceptional lyrics, life messages (much of which is political anyway), inspiration, etc. and all through phenomenal story telling. The other albums are fantastic in their own right, don't get me wrong. But to try to lambast this work for so-called political statements is beyond ignorant. Especially since you've mentioned that Jazz has always been a part of Hip Hop, it seems thar you would know that so has politics. A huge part. I get people saying that Life After Death is better, BUT Ready to Die was such a big album. It was everywhere, and so much of my '90's memories is centered around that album, so I understand why somebody would put it number one. That album, the Chronic, and Doggy Style ruled the bbq's and pool parties, and both Ready to Die and the Chronic were transformational albums of their times, so it just depends on how you're judging. If impact is a marker, then Ready to Die would win over Life After Death. Lauryn's album is a classic, but it shouldn't be on the top 20. I put her high on the emcee list (she snaps on the Score plus all the remixes to Miseducation), but that album is not top 20.
