Your point about Tems saying Afrobeats is from Nigeria is exactly what Tyla was trying to educate the "establishment" about.. You completely missed the point.. Tyla' s sound is Amapiano inspired... Her winning an Afrobeats award and saying the win is appreciated but bittersweet at the same time is based on the above point... African music is indeed diverse.. Tems explained this and also did Tyla. Amapiano is from South Africa and Afrobeats is from Nigeria. You can't group the two under Afrobeats... They are not the same... That Tyla take is a perfect example of what cause the beef with Americans and everybody else not just Africans. This girl makes music in a complete different genre, she does not need to adapt American ideologies to be accepted. Joe literally just went off on this girl talking so much shit as if shes doing something to hip hop. Its like Americans cant grasp the concept of a world where black people outside of the US dont see whatever Americans have going on as the ultimate goal. Ice can say afrobeats is not his thing he dont care for it, but the moment other people say yea i dont really fuck with your culture like that its war. People dont end up in america to be black people literally go there because thats where the industry and resources are. The major labels and infrastructures. Lol The POPULAR music coming from the continent sounds the way it sounds for a very specific reason. Lol Without that very key ingredient, the infrastructure that these artists seek and benefit from, would not exist as is. The sound that they are able to feed their families from, would not exist as is. Try not to be disingenuous when having these convos and they'll land better.

It’s not what cause the beef my friend. It works both ways. You may have never been a foreigner visiting or trying to make it in Africa. But let me tell you… you don’t talk first… you listen and learn and are told over and over how to move, about customs, respect, learn the language. Often times bc American is so diverse and with the outside having little awareness of race relations in the US people ESPECIALLY FOREIGN MINORITIES come here with little regard or care to understand OUR culture or even being culturally sensitive to US not even caring or acknowledging and come off some way. As a kid you learn but as an adult you’re expected to get it. Sucks but that’s it. I don’t agree with Joes take but I get it, just like you may understand the feelings towards black Americans. Huge disconnect and it takes both sides interesting in understanding for growth and positive way forward.
@killaswing1000Ай бұрын
@@ItsGivingBrandNew My man i completely disagree! Everyone else outside of Americans seek to understand what is happening in America. When she made that comment about color her hesitation towards it was her acknowledging the nuance. Most minorities that end up in America learn to adapt to survive the environment after being teased and ridicule by Americans, the moment they create their own eco system they practice their own beliefs. Americans try to monopolize being black to the point they beef with other cultures about what their norm is. Tyla did nothing wrong, she doesnt want Usher grinding on her, in her country the term color mean something else she clarified it. she got an award for afrobeats and explain the difference between the regions. Her only downfall was not kissing everyones ass and making herself and her culture smaller to whatever Joee and everyone else believe she should. The word "coloured " being used for mixed race people is not just a normal thing in "South Africa" but Southern Africa, this includes countries like Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, Lesotho, Swaziland and so on, and then one country wants to dictate on how people in these countries should racially categorise themselves is wild to me. And on top of that people deciding to hate Tyla based on something that they don't understand (don't even try to understand) because of how ignorant and self-centred they are. Yet she tries to learn and adjust to your culture There's literally a video on X, from the awards taken from behind the stage that clearly shows Tyla asking Lil Nas X to hold the award not Halle 🤷 And the Usher scenario 🤦♂️

Fairer skin haa been weaponized and ingrained in society to be the better more acceptable appearance as opposed to the darker skin complexions of the world. I can see why some of her comments or the way she moves would rub some people the wrong way.

people are just mad Tyla called herself a "coloured" and not "black", they are forgetting she's not from the united states but south africa, and in south africa there is an actual group of people separate from black people that are in fact called coloured. it perfectly normal for us (south africans), why are people making it such a big deal? ..... @@jaccl4539coloured is what black ppl call themselves in SA. Your problem is that you think blackness starts and ends with African Americans. Black ppl in the 60’s called themselves coloured but because they changed their way of thinking they think the whole world should have also changed. South Africa still is segregated.
@jaccl4539Ай бұрын
@@freddylloyd8083 You're incorrect on numerous points, and I understand your confusion. The short answer is your incorrect. The nuanced point is that you're pointing out how people identify but misunderstand the distinction. Your conflating a term including a group with being the group. Being colored does not imply being exclusively black in any country. I believe you are misinterpreting the colloquial term "people of color," which is not synonymous with "black." Colored is the accepted term for Asian, black, or mixed-race people. Furthermore, since 1807, there has been a distinction between negro, mulatto, and person of color. People of color served as a rallying cry and an identity, symbolizing the collective of all those who would face enslavement and thus require legal protection. In South Africa, the term "colored" does not refer to black people but rather to people of mixed ancestry. The problem with your argument, sir/mam, is that you don't understand what you're talking about respectfully. I can also continue with the historical use of negro to be colored to AA to minority back to AA, but it seems unnecessary at this point. Even MLK made a distinction between negro and colored. If this was a discussion about slurs, your argument would have more credence, but that's a different sidebar all together. I say all that to say no matter what country or timeline we look at - your argument doesn't work.

From the audio, Tyla sounded like she was actually cool with whoever she was asking to hold the award. And they are from a much more collective culture - in South Africa that shxt would probably be nothing. Anyway….. Her song didn’t open the door for African music - in this current wave.. Ckay - Love Nwantiti and Rema - Calm Down were big way before Water. Tems also. BUT She is right though, everything isn’t Afrobeats. South Africa does have it’s own music.. If Selena gomez or Beyonce had made the water song with the exact same beat and lyrics, do you think the song would be in the Afro beats category???Joe is literally upset over his own ignorance. Like you cant comprehend Africa has various genres of music? That would be like grouping every American artist into a rap category and just call them rappers just because they are American. Joe, it's way too soon to be making canabilistic babymoms jokes after that story. This dude said, "Mmm! I can taste the restrictions!" 😭🤣😭🤦🏾♂️

Other than Mel you could tell everybody was kinda uncomfortable with him continuing to joke about it 🤦🏿♂️

@@Darksyde-83 bro you do understand humor is not like your condoms at home, one size fits all? Grow up. It’s dark humor.

first time i had to tune down the pod because i felt second hand embarassement by joe´s obsessive takes on Tyla . There was nothing wrong with her speech ,she gave off strong confident young african woman vibes .Nobody in the room agreed with him but he had to have the last word .He´s too old not to notice that his whole career he was the arrogant self absorbed one and that girl doesnt even come close

Say what you want and everything else aside...Flip is very much needed...he brings a chaotic energy that Joe can feed of and control. (controlled chaos...the shows magic trick)......his energy forces his co host to come out of their comfort zone
