Nice sound! I do actually think to myself "I love the 5 liter in my lr4"... but then I realize I am old AF and I enjoy it being quite. I generally like quite exhaust (in my car also) because I can drive it harder without attracting attention on the roads. Plus long road trips, which is 90%+ of the miles on my LR4, it helps reduce fatigue if things are quite.
@LostCauseRanch
@LostCauseRanch 3 жыл бұрын
I would probably leave the front resonator in if I were to do it again, the only time the noise isn’t completely ideal to me is under heavy engine braking, mainly in a low range/steep downhill situation. I will agree that quiet is nice on long trips though. It isn’t loud enough to disrupt any conversations while driving though so that is nice.

Remove the x pipe and switch it to a 3" single in the center that runs for a couple feet. Then back out to the duals - the tone will be more exotic that way because the firing order if I'm not mistaken

Might be worth trying at some point to see what it does, I’ve never done one with a long single section going back to duals before.

@robertcossey9375

@@DominikStone727 @Nik Parks actually I take back the 3" center pipe and I would put a 4" OD in the center (to keep the original pressure correct being the factory size is 2" OD). It's really preference from there - just as long as you keep the factory spec sizing.
@DominikStone727
@DominikStone727 2 жыл бұрын
@Robert Cossey , what if I left the 1st resonator? Would the pressure still be effected? Then go back to either 2.25" pipes, 2.75" or 3" pipes. I'm sure pressure is affected either way? What would be the differences? Trying to reason out the best solution for my RRS. Thanks for your responses, this noob appreciates them!

@@robertcossey9375 Don't know much about back pressure but if you assumed cross section of 2 pipes of 2" diameter = 1 pipe of 4" you're mistaken. Cross section = pie( pick a flavor)x radius squared so 3.14"x two pipes=6.28" . 4" pipe 3.14x2 squared= 12.56 square inches. Double the cross section!

It’s a pretty straight forward job in the world of exhaust stuff. If you are on the fence on the sound try just the suitcase muffler first. It might be a bit much for the wife depending on her taste.

I went to have a shop remove my mufflers, they recommended removing the resonator instead. It was way too loud and crackly when accelerating hard. I went back with a flowmaster 40 and had them put that in instead. It sounds good now, but I’m going to remove the mufflers myself to make it a little louder. I usually do my own exhaust work, but I must have been lazy that day.

Have you tried H-pipe? It will sound really deep and bass. But there should be a couple of mid-sized resonators after H-pipe as it amplifies sound compared to X-pipe that supresses. You still can try it without resonators just for fun.

2008 LR3 V8 myself, I took out everything from the cats back, put a Borla pro x muffler and dumped the tailpipes just ahead of the rear diff. Angled them down a touch pointed mostly straight back. That fixed the drone in the cabin on the highway. Sounds incredible, love the blap-blap on downshift, at idle it sounds super mean. Wish it had just a touch more growl on hard acceleration but really like that it’s not so loud at speed. Great video!

I’ll admit I am somewhat of a child sometimes and like noise. Outside of cold startup it does have the ability for the noise to be modulated by your right foot. But I agree with you on the stealth point but I just like messing with stuff.

I have a 2011 LR4 HSE, picked up the X pipe you linked to Amazon and took it down to my local Midas for an estimate. They wanted between 7 and 8 hundred to do the job. Should have seen the look on my face . I just walked out of course. Went by Parker 4X4 who mainly work on Jeeps but I know they work on exhausts as well and they wanted more at a higher hourly rate for 2 to 3 hours of work! What? This should be roughly an hour to 2 hours max. I've seen another KZbin video only take 30 minutes to do this work. It's not that easy finding an old school repair shop these days that will do the work for a couple hundred as it's not that big of a mod. Still searching for another shop.

It’s fine I’m my opinion while driving. Not much more noise than the tires and stuff on the roof. If I were to do it again I would probably leave the front resonator in to smooth out the sound some.
