Marty Stuart deserves every award he's ever been given (and that's a whole lot of them to be sure). 1 year later: I truly appreciate the handful of likes this comment has gotten. I wasn't looking for likes, but it does my heart good to know there are those of us who agree on Mr. Marty Stuart's award worthiness (and the whole band's for that matter). Amazing to have something the talented Clarence White owned live on so perfectly. White was certainly one of the pioneers we can say pushed the boundaries of bluegrass to have a rock and roll attitude. I really don't want to hear about The Eagles doing it as they never did it with the country element first as the core, especially after Leadon left. White, in my opinion, was the true progenitor of what others came to label "country rock" culminating in both his later solo work and as a member of The Byrds. Even Gram owes a lot to Clarence who died senselessly in a freak accident way too young, not unlike Gram.

ROMP 2024. Marty and his band lifted their sound and voices up to the heavens in Owensboro (the surf capital of the world). Marty, Cousin Kenny, Handsome Harry, and Professor Chris Scruggs are, pound-for-pound, THE BEST band playing country music today and long before.

On the set practicing, some of the stage people made fun of the band etc., but after they played, Letterman’s band showed the love. Lotta talent in that band. Especially the sound of the lead guitar.

Marty Stewart is playing the Clarence White b- bender Telecaster which was designed by Graham Parsons from the Byrds circa 1969. Fantastic pedal steel licks!

It was Gene Parsons, the Byrds' drummer, who actually designed Clarence White's B-Bender guitar. Gram Parsons was a different guy.

I'm not a big country fan...but therte are many aspects of it that I really enjoy. Most of it is the talent these people display.

Marty Stuart is incredible ..theres a video on youtube of him at 14 playing mandolin for Lester Flatt. Another great video of him playing in Doc Watsons band.

What's amazing is just how much Letterman enjoyed it. His show was always associated with rock while Leno was more the country show but Letterman has a real appreciation for americana style music. He has had a lot of artists on, some early in thier careers and some established, who were not well known to a general public but were country/americana - Elizabeth Cook, Kelly Willis, Jason Isbell, and more. Obviously he is a huge Marty fan.

Don't forget the recently departed Nanci Griffith, probably Dave's second favorite songwriter of all time after Warren Zevon.

I'm on the 2nd listen !! They brought the damn roof down, you could tell it really resonated with the audience. If it sounds this good on my crappy computer speakers, I can only imagine how good they sounded live!

You got to love KZbin. Your not going to here stuff like this on Commercial Country radio today. When I listen to country on the radio it’s Sirius XM Outlaw Country. The American Country Music awards were on last Week (2019) and I would say there probably nothing like what Marty and Kenny just played. I stopped watching that program years ago. Thanks for posting this great video.

Love Marty! They aren’t making country music like this anymore.

That music is still being made/performed but mostly smaller venues and stages, maybe at local musician jam sessions. Marty played the Stagecoach Festival in 2013, but he was playing on one of the little satellite stages at some weird time of day. I wasn't able to see that show but I thought he was getting slighted.
