Hard case - hunted that creek a couple of times. Flew in to that exact same wee hollow about 20 years ago and camped there for a week on one occasion - the pilot knew it was there from his venison recovery days. There were a couple of old Avgas cans sitting on a knob just above it. The rumble of ice falling from the glacier into the lake used to wake us up. Not many deer in there then, but quite a few bull tahr. Suspect it gets culled a bit now.
@j.e.wilds-hunting3 ай бұрын
Oh wow that's awesome! First person I've heard that hunted there apart from us. A cool little spot, I was expecting to see Tahr too but I think your right, they have been probably culled out
@OscarTahr3 ай бұрын
@@j.e.wilds-hunting Went in there 3 times. Snowed out once. Walked in another time from the hut in the main valley and it rained a bit, couldn't cross the main river so had to bash back to hut on true left which was crappy. We didn't see any deer in that side valley at all back then, only out round above the main river valley. But good numbers of tahr. Not great trophy potential in the bulls, we shot a couple of mature ones but very small bodied animals with horns to match. Lovely spot and some awesome history from the golden days of trophy hunting.
