Modular wins for me even though the full face is safer. The convenience can't be beat.

@maigodied3226 convenience is being able to flip it up to get some air or take a drink without having to take it off. Then you can flip it back down for more protection. Take a look at some Modular’s, I’ve recently found some that weight the same or less as other full face helmets!

I went modular. While all your points are valid for me the option to raise the chin bar and drop down the visor on the highway and get that open air feeling is great. At gas pump or pull off, Just raise the chin bar and communicate. Water while traveling is a must and long highway runs I'll wait until about an hour out from next stop then start hydrating until rest stop or fuel and facility's.

Technically the modular helmets are quieter (if made properly like SHOEI) - due to the way you close the helmet the modular allows for a closer fitting curtain around your neck which equates to less wind noise. Also, wins on safety as it’s easier to get it open for first responders without needing to pull helmet off.

I'm a fan of modular. I had a Shoei Neotec 2 which I found to be quieter than the equivalent Shoei GT Air 2 full face, because the neck seals more tightly. I was involved in a crash in the Neotec when a car pulled out in front of me. I ended up in hospital with several broken bones (despite wearing full armour). But the helmet was so good that I didn't even know I had hit my head until I looked at the helmet several months later. I highly recommend a Neotec 2 or the new 3. After that experience I would never consider an open face helmet and will always spend good money on a respected brand of helmet such as Shoei or Arai etc.

I'm currently looking into these two types, I have to say, I'm kind of disappointed that I can't really find one full face that fits me well and make me feel comfortable, seems like I have a huge head even though I have a small body. I have trouble getting the helmet on or off my head. I do love the safety aspect though. The modular helmet actually does fit me better despite many of the videos not giving it good reviews. Again, for any helmet, each brand is different. I personally feel that the modular helmet is at least safer than the open face helmet which is very common in my country. There's also a not so good mentality that if you ride smaller bikes, you don't wear full face/modular helmets, but I don't really bother since safety is more important than being angry for being made fun of. Anyway, I love to learn more about helmets as I'm a new rider. Thanks 😊

Try different brands of helmet. They are typically made for different shape heads. Not all brands or models work for every head. e.g. Shoei tend to be more oval in shape which Schuberth are more round, etc. It can make a big difference to comfort and fit. With helmets I always recommend to go to an actual shop and get fitted rather than buying online. Some shops can swap out the linings of some helmets to get a better fit. For example you can get different cheek pads and upper lining in multiple sizes for Shoei helmets, which can really allow for a great fit.

My wife bought jet helmet first, I bought flip-up. Three weeks later she bought flip-back, because a wasp flew between visor and her face during a ride (and she is an allergic to wasp venom). So she prefers a jet helmet in the city ride and flip-back outside a city.

I have both and modular and a full face. My modular is by far quieter than my full face because the fit around the neck. I have to open my chin bar and full the sides out to get it on. My bike sounds like a low rumble with the modular and is pretty loud with my full face. The modular also has less wind noise due to the extra padding and fewer vents. I have a Harley Davidson capstone sun shield II H31 modular and a sedici Strada II full face. The Sedici is nice for short jaunts and the Harley helmet is better for long rides where comfort and convenience are key.

Lets not forget the most important factor here. Your ride style and how fast you go on a day to day basis. Downhill road cycling only covers 1/3 of their head and still survives when they crashed. I say, Modular is the better choice for 95% of riders out there. But lets face it. We gotta own both! Or in my case. I have 4 styles of 8 in total now😂 I dont own a full carbon one yet. Extra weight and wind noise?? Please do a comparison of wind noise on a QUALITY modular like Shoei Neotec 2 or Schuberth C5. I am betting that either is more quiet than that HJC full face. Oh wait, Champion Helmets already has the data....and guess what? 🙂

I am speaking from my experience. I'm sure once you get into the $800-$1000 range the modulars are quieter and better made. Not everyone can afford that though. I can definitely say the HJC Carbon is the quietest helmet I've owned. Not saying it's the quietest on the market. Thank you for your feedback.

Found someone saying this: "for various reasons to do with how the neck roll fits, a GT-Air 3 [full face] will never be quite as quiet as a Neotec 3 [modular]" So it could be that modulars are actually the less noisy ones, as they can be tighter around the neck.

I've got HJC and Vega full face and they've got more wind noise than my Hawk(leatherup) moduler......I did have a Fulmer modular and it was horribly noisy Another point, glasses, some full face you can't get your glasses to fit your face right And you don't want the flip down sun visor that LOCKS down.....In a crash it can be pushed down into your nose very hard, breaking the visor and digging out a chunk of nose and continuing down cutting nice slices out of your face......be sure in the fully down position it pushes up easily with a finger

Half shells are so pointless, like at LEAST do a 3/4 "jet" style long shield helmet, geez. TBH, I wish there were modern helmets with the chin bar proportions of a Bell Bullitt. Would be great for it to come with an action cam mount from the factory right on the center of the chin, too. Bonus points if it's removable and becomes a vent, afterward, but also has two vents on either side to compensate for when it's in "GoPro" mode. Basically, give me a modernized shape/ventilation/shield mechanism/ratcheting strap Bell Bullitt with a factory center-chin GoPro mount and more acceptable color schemes for the modern day, both wild AND neutral. Give it MIPS and all the protection goodies to make it ECE and SNELL certified, but make sure it still has pin-lock and a drop-down shade, too. Sometimes you NEED to double shade, and either my visor or my sunglasses alone aren't enough. Most of the time I go shield up, chin bar down, visor up, sunglasses on with my LS2 Valiant, though. I like the airflow. Shield comes down on extended highway runs, or when speeding over about 60mph.
@JoeGoeMotorcycleAdventures
@JoeGoeMotorcycleAdventures Жыл бұрын
All of those features are definitely a valid point. Half shells are still better than nothing. I saw first hand when my buddy fell off his bike right in front of me and landed on his head. He was wearing a half shell and it saved him. I know he got lucky because 9 times out of 10 the must damage happens to your face. It's a personal choice and I respect everyone's decision. I wish more people understood how important a helmet is. To each their own though 🤷 thanks for watching and I appreciate your feedback.

I am kinda tired of the fear mongering around modular helmets. The weird chin strap choice on that particular has absolutely nothing to do with the average modular helmet which uses the standard D rings. It would be nice if someone actually gave a real opinion based on facts rather than just "uhhh i think it's not as good because the front could rip off!" totally unfounded speculation.
@JoeGoeMotorcycleAdventures
@JoeGoeMotorcycleAdventures 7 ай бұрын
The front can totally rip off, it's on a hinge. This makes the chin of the modular helmet weaker than a full face helmet. I'm not saying a modular helmet isn't safe, just pointing out what could happen. I appreciate you watching and leaving your feedback.
