I was in the Christmas tree Shop in Portland one night about 15-16 years ago and the back door to the store was left open and a full grown Fisher came into the store and was running the top tear of the shelves in the back of the store, scared to death. What a beautiful animal and gorgeous coat. Some customer all big and bold said he was going to try and knock it off the shelf. I told him if he valued his life he would back off and leave it to find its way back out which it did.

Nice footage. That was a stud fisher. As far as the regulations go, that’s what happens when the politicians think they know better and the agency heads are afraid to ruffle feathers. Just look at the state of some of our fisheries.

Good evening, Joe! Fisher vid is super interesting. Neat to see the behaviors and, that guy, a big boy. Fisher are very interesting critters and I admire them as hunters….. I remember the first one I saw in the wild 5 decades ago. Lynx exclusion 🤔….. agree/ Roger that, the 4”x4” certainly conservative and a constraint. That said, feedback from the trapping community and videos such as this an aid to the study, what could be better? Keep sharing!

Hi Joe, ever trapped fisher with foot holds? I know the every 24 hour checks would be killer but if you knew they were there it’s another option. The Feds aren’t willing to bend on the exclusion devices. BTW every time I chip the ice over my beaver traps and they are sprung, I catch myself saying “ we have activity “ Lol hope you don’t mind

I'm doing testing on different but similar traps. But trapping weasel and mink and keeping domestic cats out.im trying to make the whole as large as I can without having a cat reach in and still allow the big mink to get in.also distance I have to move trap back from hole to keep them From setting off or getting caught
@gregkobylarz86486 күн бұрын
Hey Joe, can you get this entire video over to Shevenell Webb @ F&W? I believe that the only compromise is to go to a 5" front hole with a longer backset for the trap. Maybe having the trap 24" back from the opening? Keep in mind that the three lynx exclusion devise options were the original concepts created by F&W at the time of the lynx lawsuit. Now that they have been field tested in the wild for several years, it's time for some modifications to allow the adult male fisher to be trapped. Also, would love to see the fisher video. Tom Miranda is also putting together a Maine marten and fisher video at this time.

Hey Joe, The laws about male fisher are antiquated I believe. If trappers cannot stop the big male fishers from killing the lynx, than that aspect of regulation needs to be revisited. The State could do a one season review of live trapping and tagging to acertain the territory of caught fishers. I fish for Strip Bass and the first year of crys and woes of overfishing, we had to report any tagged fish we may catch to State Fisheries with the tag#. The State has a few officers that will help put a better policy into the trapping relm here in Maine, they just want to keep their jobs and follow their directors decisions.

Hi ,since you can only use 4" holes in the box,to keep lynx out,my ? is this,Why dont you put your boxes up in a tree?Then maybe the state will change the regs on the opening size.Seems to me a lynx might not climb for that,but again they do climb imo. Im sure you've been asked before.1/23/2925
