So Clemson cant afford a loss to one of those teams. But look at the SEC.....All of those teams(minus Bama) ARE up there. So a loss is more forgiving. Clemson and NC St can be afforded a loss. The rest of the ACC CANNOT. They play easy schedules and should win more. A good loss can be better than a bad win. ND barely escaped Vandy....thats a bad win. UCF has NO quality wins and is undefeated. Im not rewarding a team for beating nobodies when another barely loses to a powerhouse.

As a Virginia Tech (ACC) fan, I agree with Klatt. Wisconsin and Michigan State would demolish NC State, Virginia, Syracuse and Boston College. The ACC is by far the weakest conference, followed closely by Pac-12.

As a Miami fan, I agree with you about 95%. But it's our two teams plus F$U that are holding the conference down. UVA, Cuse, BC(along with Clemson obviously) are doing their part to keep the conference relevant. Noles, Canes, Hokes gotta step up. Joel is 100% correct: after the top 5 or 6 the rankings are insanely dumb. There are so many things that make no sense, even at the very bottom of the top 25. How do you have 5-3 Iowa State in?? How do you have Fresno State in, but not Utah State??

I agree with the insanely dumb things Joel Klatt mentions, but I noticed it on his list and now here. I don't see how Iowa State being #24 is overvalued at all. They shouldn't be higher for sure, but #24 seems like a fair spot to me. I'm going to guess most people don't pay attention to us so I will enlighten: Iowa State is 4-3. We have 3 losses, to #7 Oklahoma, #16 Iowa, and an unranked TCU. All 3 of them were close and in doubt in the 4th quarter. TCU was kinda a stinker game but we hadn't played Brock Purdy yet (we hadn't for all 3 of them actually). We also crushed #13 West Virginia who was #5 at the time and Will Grier had heisman hype around him. We won at Oklahoma State who just got done beating Texas, and we beat Texas Tech who crushed Oklahoma State. Now I agree that TCU is a really bad look, but you can't overlook the fact we destroyed a high ranked WVU team, and took down two higher quality big 12 teams that would be ranked if it weren't for us beating them. Our other losses aren't bad at all, and I don't see a reason #24 isn't a good option for us. I do believe there are teams below us that probably should be ahead...but I also think we should be ahead of a lot of those ACC teams as well so it balances out lol.

@@bw6667 FPI: Fresno St. is 25th, Utah State is 34th Projected W-L (Doesn't matter too much but I thought I'd include it): Fresno: 7th Utah State: 12th Offensive Efficiency Rank: Fresno: 18th, Utah State: 35th Defensive Efficiency: Fresno: 15th, Utah State: 24th Overall Efficiency: Fresno: 9th, Utah St: 15th Utah St has a major advantage in special teams (12th vs 63rd), but it's special teams. They also have an advantage in scoring offense (3rd vs 17th), but both of their numbers are inflated from playing bad teams. Additionally, they're getting killed in scoring defense (34nd vs 4th). I agree that Fresno doesn't have a great resume, and I'm not sure that they should be ranked, but outside of a close loss to Minnesota, they've dominated every team they've played, and Utah State has generally done that, I just can't justify ranking a team that beat Wyoming by 8 and Air Force by 10 at home. As for the BYU win, BYU has been pretty bad outside of that one good game against Wisconsin. They've beaten one other Power 5 team in Arizona, who have been awful, and got embarrassed by Washington. It's a solid win considering the score, but not that impressive.

Bruh, Klatt's not saying that Michigan is underranked, he's saying that the quality teams they've BEATEN are being underranked, especially compared to the ACC which is VASTLY overranked. This doesn't manifest now, but at the end of the season when resumes are being compared using factors like ranked wins, it absolutely will. 16 spots is the difference between top 25 and not even receiving votes in the AP poll: it's patently ridiculous and a completely disingenuous action by the committee

I don't think he's playing dumb, he seems to just have no awareness of what the committee is doing. In his mind the committee will do what it obviously should if Michigan finishes 12-1. Not putting 12-1 Michigan into the playoff is ridiculous so he's completely dismissing it as a possibility and as a result is just ignoring what the committee's doing with the bottom of the rankings, which is setting it up so that if Clemson or Alabama drops a game they can justify keeping them in the top 4 over Michigan and to a lesser extent Oklahoma (Oklahoma would finish the year with a clearly better resume than 1 loss Clemson or Alabama but definitely not as good as Michigan's).

Winston Lewis Clemson has gotten a NY6 bowl almost every year since 2013 and FSU is usually there as well. Alabama hasn’t played a true road game in about 10 years. All their non conference games are either home or neutral site. Plus they don’t even have to win their conference or even their division because the system always gives the SEC 2 teams on benefit of the doubt. That benefit of the doubt would have been handy for that JT Barret-Joey Bosa-Ezekiel Elliot defending champion team that got left out of the playoff a few years ago.

Klatts reasoning is starting to make me wonder where his agenda is. Just last year he pumped up OSU saying how it doesn't matter that they lost horribly to Iowa because they won the big ten and since Alabama lost a close rivalry game to a really good auburn team that OSU has more of a right to a playoff spot than Bama? Conference champions are 1 of the biggest hoaxes in college football because the 2 best teams a lot of the time play in the same division so that game is rarely best on best. andre jamison Last year Bama didn't win the SEC West. UCF beat the SEC West champs last year. Conference champ should get in over a team that doesn't win its division. Auburn should have gotten in over Bama last year

Alabama's SEC opponents are 2-16 in the SEC. Their non conference opponents are 10-14. Why are they ranked number one? There is no way their strength of schedule is better than Clemson and Notre Dame.
