Footage from many people from all different directions showed 1/ No Flooding 2/ Gates closed 3 someone went to try and open up any door. Every single one was locked. Also the footage of flooding he acknowledged it was from 2001........ And now a volunteers has photos of all those donations behind the doors of the church with armed guards so no flood victim can access them. The church didn't pay for those donations. People brought them in and many donors said they didn't even belong to the church but they wanted to leave packets of Diapers etc for people in need.

Kind of comical your name is Karen. Seems most appropriate because you clearly overlooked the most important aspect of this make believe controversy. Lakeland Church is a PRIVATE ENTITY, not a government administered or sanctioned evacuation center. As such, Lakeland does NOT have the legal protections against civil suit that a government facility would be blanketed with (i.e., qualified immunity and sovereign immunity). As such, there is no legal requirement for them to turn their facility into a shelter of any kind. Given these indisputable facts and the legal exposure they would subject themselves to by establishing a public shelter, the precautions taken to ensure the safety of anyone sheltering there seem not only reasonable but from a legal standpoint absolutely critical to defend against potential lawsuits should anyone get hurt or killed while sheltering there.

I mean, come on now ... his whole message is to live like Christ, to treat people as Jesus would have, is it not? People were quite literally dying in the streets because they had no shelter ... the very first thing this man should've done was offer shelter from the flood/storm. And for the record, I absolutely understand your point and I see where you're coming from, and on a human to human level, shelter should've been offered by those who own massive indoor spaces across the board, but on the other side of that same coin, those other building owners don't spend their entire lives preaching to millions of people every Sunday, about compassion and love and feeding the hungry and clothing the naked... but when the chips were down, you saw what the real Joel Osteen looked like, and he deserved/deserves every single bit of criticism and shame heaped upon him.

He is free from taxes due to churches being exempt. Walmart did open it's doors directly after Hurricane Ike for those that needed supplies in Kemah Texas. As did other stores. Local churches opened doors, handing supplies immediately afterwards. Community helps community.

Well done Joel. Showing respect for the government - and working with the government rather than endangering more lives. Lakewood did the right thing - and doesn't deserve the amateur criticism from news desks or anyone else. Its easy for people around the country to criticise Lakewood from their sofa's or easy chairs. Flooding is very dangerous. Joel was wise and sensible. Keep up the good work Joel!
