Wow, that lady was a bit intense, I love wine tastings, but they’re more fun when everything is more casual. She seemed a bit judgey, which I would hate, because I like sweet wines like you guys do, and you normally get shunned for liking sweeter wines. But as I always say, “you do you hun!” 😂 Love you guys, keep the videos coming! ❤️❤️❤️

The sommelier was actually very wise. She moved you towards sweeter desert wines because that's more your thing as she said rather than starting sweet and then you're entire time would be a disappointment. And as they went on you could see you began to like the wines more and more.

It is funny how folks thought she was rude. As a wine lover, I took her remarks as more of a warning. If you go sweet and than back to dry, it would be very unlikely that anyone would enjoy the dry wine.

@@tombaker6522 It wasn’t about what she said. It’s how she said it. I’ve been to many wine tastings and get lots of info without someone needing to be disrespectful and demeaning in their tone. Lia’s face said it all. She could feel the attitude. To me, this is what’s wrong in society. Just because we’re super knowledgeable and giving good info, doesn’t mean it couldn’t be said in a nicer way. Kindness is always the way.

EXTREMELY important piece of advice for anyone who wants to tour the Biltmore Estate and other offerings on estate grounds. Show up a day before in Asheville, get to the Estate as soon as it opens... AND SPEND ALL DAY taking your time to actually enjoy the place as much as possible. The grounds are so huge and spread out that if you want to actually "enjoy the experience" you can't rush through it because you have to be somewhere else. It is vital that you have nothing else planned the ENTIRE DAY because between sections of the estate to tour, eating locations and winery PLUS the views in general (especially in the fall with the changing of the leaves or during Christmas time), a single "couple of hours" tour isn't going to cover everything that they have to offer for you to experience. 2nd most important piece of advice, BRING YOUR WALLET because sadly some of the outlets know they are a "tourist attraction" and charge you accordingly.

Don't know when but I hope to go back there for another visit someday.

If you want to wine tasting come to Northern California to sonoma county and napa County just 1 hour north of San Francisco. Healdsburg has some great wineries and top restaurants and the surrounding towns have so much to see and do. Plan on 2 weeks and you can see a bit of everything from San Francisco to the redwood forest and the pacific ocean. Sonoma also has great charm. I grew up in Healdsburg but there is nothing quite like Northern California beautiful sight, food and wine. We are walk and biking friendly have a smart train coming in to go from town to town and have even started taking out stop sign and light and putting in more roundabout.

I have a strong suspicion that they knew you were coming and wanted to make sure they highlighted certain wines. I’ve been there many times with others We all get different wines and we’ve never been denied what we wanted to try. They also don’t tell us anything unless we ask for suggestions. There’s usually a paper checklist you fill out. You received extra service, it seems.

Red wines are an acquired taste, but once your palate adjusts, you can taste the berries, oaks, tannins, and such with practice. I do not even have a sense of smell (ever) and loved the nuances in reds, roses', and whites. I was partial to Red zins, and cabernet sauvignons, for reds and the Gewurtz traminiers from Germany.

If you've ever seen the American sitcom "Seinfeld", within the first few seconds of your wine steward speaking, she reminded me of the "soup nazi" who was on that show, so demanding and dictatorial to the customers( in this case she would be "the wine nazi" ). I figured she had to be from Germany as she was so direct, critical and insistent in being right, not allowing you to make your own choices - which perhaps is necessary for a wine steward, although again, being from Germany, she didn't modify her affect to be pleasant and accommodating to the customer in the least. Very telling however that once she knew you were British she became less strident - probably due to having a prejudice against most uncultured Americans coming in all the time who will swill anything without discrimination.
