Healthcare... It is so messed up. My step dad is a retired hospital administrator, and he's given me some insights. The scam is deeper than you know: the insurance companies basically choose a percentage of a cost that they'll pay. So the hospital increases the asking amount so that they get "negotiated" down to their actual desired fee. That's all fine and dandy for the two groups to play pretend, but if you aren't a part of the game, you're stuck with the inflated, pretend cost. Luckily, a lot of hospitals have programs where they discount certain services for "financial hardship", and that often just translates to "if you ask for it, that's enough proof you need it". I HIGHLY recommend asking about such services for the uninsured, or even those with sketchy insurance programs.

Choosing a job based on the healthcare benefits (and not being able to afford to quit because of your health status) is ABSOLUTELY a thing here, and it's horrible. It's unfortunately virtually impossible to remove bias from news. There are some news journalists who you can tell make a genuine effort to avoid spinning the news, but even in these cases, the news still ends up biased because the mere selection of what stories to cover influences the tone. There are some stories that will be discussed constantly on one channel and you switch to another channel and you'd never even know the story exists.

These may include fees for your balance dropping below a certain level, or fees for bouncing a check, or for being overdrawn in your account. If your US bank charges you for a savings or checking account, you're not looking hard enough. People like stupid sheep just put up with it and complain. I have no minimum balance and have not spent a nickel in monthly fees in 15 years because I go to a bank with free checking. Free checking is all over the map and strong, reliable institutions too. And go to your bank's ATM (or collective group) and not someone else's bank or group to avoid $2-3 charges. I can go anywhere in the US and if I stay "within the network" there is no fee even thousands of miles from home. Take 20 minutes and learning about ATM networks and plan your trip by withdrawing cash at home first and then only in an emergency go to an ATM in the network in another town. You have to prepare and be aware.
@bsandey2 жыл бұрын
Agree - Shop around for a bank account. I've found that a lot of the big banks are the worse ones for bank fees. I'm with a regional bank, and as long as I have direct deposit, I have no monthly fees or minimum balance on my checking account. I don't get any interest either, but I usually don't have enough to make much. My savings account also has no fees, but you need a minimum m balance for that. I also have overdraft protection that will take money from my savings to cover any overdrafts, but that has a $10 fee for each time. Easy way around that is just be aware of what's going on in your account, and if something happens that it will drop negative, I move the money myself from savings to checking, and avoid that $10 fee. But the main thing that is a scam is overdraft charges. I don't know how they do it in other countries, but here in the US, they charge you a fee for not having enough money. Sometimes you might get lucky and they cover the charge anyway (still charging you a fee), but if it happens too much, they can start denying that charge, and then you have to pay back the place you used it at, and possibly face criminal charges for not having money. All this can be avoided if you just keep track of your accounts. Deduct what you spend as soon as you can, whether you track it on paper, in a spreadsheet, or a software program like Quicken (which also let's you enter transactions on your phone). If you have automatic payments coming from your account, know when they happen, and deduct the money before it happens so you know it's in the account when it comes due. And never ever "float checks" (write a check hoping that it takes a few days before it shows up at your bank when you have payday coming up in those few days).

@@mynameisharlan We don't have socialized medicine; many of us have jobs which provide insurance (we contributed part of the cost). Some jobs do not offer insurance, but if you can, it's a good idea to find a job which does. The better education or technical training you get, the better chance you have to find a job with benefits (insurance,) or be able to afford some kind of insurance. For those who can't pay for insurance, there are low-cost clinics. There are other programs, such as Medicaid for children whose families can't pay for insurance. Generally, if you look at the channel guide and the program name has someone's name in it, then it's not a news program. I don't think the last one is only in America. People anywhere can and do pitch "secrets" that they'll only give you if you pay X amount first. :)

That’s so true!! I still don’t like the banks that only ALLOW you to take a limited amount of your money out. That’s ridiculous! It’s MY money! Smh While I get what they were trying to do things are pretty much defined as far as news. There are your network local news anchors and then you have your “Fox” political news talking heads and then there is Entertainment Tonight show host and then the social media gossip types that pass themselves off as wanna be journalists. But,I believe many of us know what we are getting when we watch these people and particular programming. Just like these two are scammers. Lol I no longer buy into what they do. I caught on a year or so ago and stopped watching as much. They’ll still come up on my feed and I will take a look and chuckle. I love Joel though😉☺️

@@Kim-427 Yeah. I switched to a credit union instead of a bank a couple of decades ago and have been a lot happier ever since.
@Allaiya.2 жыл бұрын
1) Financial savvy people don’t get transaction fees bc… they use Credit Unions. You get “non-sufficient fund” fees if you try and buy something via a check that you don’t have enough $ to in that account to pay. It’s annoying & sometimes it does take a real persons time at the bank to have to reverse all those transactions that aren’t good, so it’s to persuade irresponsible people from making purchases they can’t afford. I agree sometimes these fees can still be excessive though. A lot of retail places no longer accept checks for this reason, because it’s a hassle. And there are regional banks that will work with people if it’s a first time offense. You don’t get charged for “not earning $” 2) yes, the 24/hr cable programs have a lot of editorial prices that are casted as “news”. State/Local news is better & newspapers have to disclose opinion pieces. 3) Yes,they are. I think most students after freshman year realize that. I didn’t have the option to rent, like they do now adays. Buy used textbooks. Unless of course the professor makes their own book and makes it a “requirement” of that class. Now that is a scam!! That said, community college is much cheaper and many people do not take advantage of it. 3/4) if your balance is going up every year, it’s called negative amortization. Meaning you’re not even paying all your interest off each year, and therefore it gets added to the principal balance & you owe more each year. I feel like that’s not legal in the US unless someone is on income based repayment each year (meaning you have to prove you don’t make enough to pay the full P&I payment). Usually by default they put you on 15 or 10 year fixed loan terms for federal government loans. The scams is the rising tuition rates & the US gov guaranteeing the loans for anyone with a pulse. 5) MLM are definitely scams. Savvy Americans know this. But many naive people get pressured by their friends and family who sign up. 6) Agreed. I have great health insurance but I do think we need a mixture for those who don’t. Excellent point at the end. As always, if it sounds to good to be true, it likely is.

I was watching the news out here when we arrived and did find the lack of objectivity across the board quite shocking. Then I turned on History channel and it wasn’t history. So I’m sticking to MTV and Catfish 😂

Have you watched the travel channel lately? It's mostly paranormal and ghost stories now. Why can't they just make a paranormal channel and actually show traveling on the travel channel, does it make sense?

As a teen in the late 80s early 90s, we were taught in school, that news media was supposed to just present the facts and not opinions. There was an editorial piece in newspapers, that was allowed to show the opinion of the editor. However, it was just supposed to be the one article or topic. It was the same with the news on television. When doing these types of writing assignments (news) we had to be very careful to keep to the facts. It is absolutely shocking what the news has become. I actually don't get the newspaper anymore for that reason. I find it very irritating to watch the news in this country. I'm glad the UK hasn't fallen into this trap and I hope they never do.

Jobs that advertise healthcare doesn’t mean it’s free you still pay and it’s not cheap. Why they advertise is because it’s easier to get it through your work than have to pay privately or Obama care. At least that’s how I think it works.

MLM's make me sad. I started selling a product I LOVED and wanted to sell it because I thought it was great and the brand new company didn't seem like an MLM, but pretty soon, the company started growing and became blatantly scammy when I didn't want to recruit people and the company stopped supporting me. I still love their product, but quit selling it as soon as the company trajectory changed. Buh bye! Sad. Good product. Oh well. It was an experience.

On the college costs, as long as the government gives loans the colleges will continue to keep costs high. If loans weren’t given for large amounts the colleges would have to price their product to attract students.
@rhoetusochten42112 жыл бұрын
Agreed. The government will loan out almost any amount with no real accountability as to how you'll be able to pay it back based off the education you're receiving. Then they pushed "higher education for every single person". Now colleges can charge whatever they feel like because there is no responsibility.

Different types of bank accounts have different requirements. Example you get interest on money in the account, but you have to keep a minimum balance. If your balance goes lower than the minimum, then u pay a fee. The definition y’all are using for the word “scam” is not the same as here.

I've got a bank in my town who requires seniors to maintain a $1000 bank balance all month to avoid a $13.00 fee, I don't see any benefit to banking there, they like most other banks around charge you fees to use another ATM, plus the ATM operator does too. I'm off all day and can get cash from a teller for free at the bank i use, and off hours they do have one ATM 15 miles away.

My cousin works in Admissions at a small private liberal arts and sciences college. It is a good college with an very good curriculum and only about 2,900 students. I went to undergrad university with 24,000 students. She says the $51,000 per year tuition is not paid by anyone. You get accepted and then submit your financial condition and you end up with some sort of grant. You can get government student loans as well. Maybe the Kennedy’s and Rockefeller’s pay full tuition to attend top universities or colleges but most do not. It is like paying full price for a new car, that only happens if there are only two or three cars on the lot like now. But normally you would never pay sticker price. College for me paid off big time, I know it got me promoted in my company and a foot in the door. But I don’t recommend college for everyone. If you want to be an engineer, doctor, accountant, attorney or other professions you must have college but if you are studying Art History, Geography, World History, Cultural Anthropology and so on you are getting a ton of interesting knowledge but you probably will never get your investment back in terms of wages. Trade schools are important and we need to establish them again in the US. You can make a nice living in HVAC, plumbing, truck repair, railroad jobs, wind technologies and metal pressing, so on.

Best quote - “if you say you’re fun, you’re not fun”, or “if you say you’re inspiring, you’re not inspiring”. 😂😂😂 I think Americans are better now with recognizing the MLM scams, but people do still want to “get rich quick”. I mean c’mon, who doesn’t? 😂😂😂 I think I’ll follow your plan and “get rich slow”, seems more attainable. 🙂 Love u guys … ❤️❤️❤️
