Shady Maple is the best buffet around. The "red egg" you ate is called a "Red Beet Egg." It's a pickled egg made with red beets, vinegar, sugar, and water. It's a Pennsylvania Dutch classic recipe. I hope you enjoyed being in my home state and a favorite place of mine. You're welcome to come back anytime. Huggggs!

Shoofly pie is a molasses crumb pie. The star of the show is molasses, but shoofly pie is also typically composed of flour, brown sugar, water, spices, and sometimes egg. The pie is topped with crumbs and served in flaky pie crust. Shoofly pie is similar to coffee cake, but with a gooey molasses bottom.

My husband and I eat at Shady Maple quite often- we’ve both lived in the area our entire lives. Shoo fly pie is made with molasses. Red beet eggs are made with Red beets, vinegar and sugar, in which hard boiled eggs are marinaded. You should try Shady Maple on Tuesday night for the seafood and Wednesday night for the Prime Rib. And on your birthday, your meal is free when you have a paying person with you.

Shoofly pie is a type of American pie made with molasses associated with Pennsylvania Dutch cuisine. Related to the Jenny Lind pie, it may have originated among the Pennsylvania Dutch in the 1880s as molasses crumb cake. It was traditionally served not as a dessert pie, but as a breakfast food with hot coffee. The modern form of shoofly pie as a crumb cake served in pie crust was a post-Civil War innovation, when cast iron cookware and stoves made pie crust more accessible for home cooks. It is also known as molasses crumb pie. The name "Shoofly pie" is taken from a brand of molasses that was popular in parts of the US during the late 19th century.Wikipedia

Lol if you want pudding soft meat, get some meat pudding or scrapple 😂. I really don’t think the “brisket “ you got was brisket in the sense of the same cut of meat when you get brisket at a bar-b-que, say like in Texas. Although your third helping of brisket did look like a real brisket cut. 🤷‍♀️ Their fried chicken is very good. Lol, that’s a red beet egg, and they are very good! I sometimes regret not going the Shady Maple Buffet. I had heard so many good things about it. We (hubby and I) lived in York, PA... 30+ miles from Lancaster. And actually passed through many times, but could never justify the time and expense. Mostly because we worked all day, and when we arrived home (3-5 minutes from job to home), we had a great home-cooked meal indoors or on the grill. My favorite buffet (back in the day), we called a smorgasbord. Was Duffs Smorgasbord (somewhere Ohio)? Dad drove us there 3-4 times a year. It was special and worth the drive (Although "as kids"), I don't believe it was as far as we thought it was. We are in Florida now, so no chance to holler at hubby to gas-up the car. lol In part... We'll manage. 😭 So glad you are enjoying and taking on new protégés. Edit: The red egg is a "Red Pickled Egg." A huge favorite in the north. I make them at home. Wasn't a fan as a kid. But, I do appreciate them now. 👉🏼

Shoofly pie : molasses crumb cake originally not a dessert but a breakfast food served with coffee. Good video.

Shoofly pie is a molasses crumb pie. The star of the show is molasses, but shoofly pie is also typically composed of flour, brown sugar, water, spices, and sometimes egg. The pie is topped with crumbs and served in flaky pie crust. Shoofly pie is similar to coffee cake, but with a gooey molasses bottom.Nov 25, 2019

The red egg looks like a pickled egg. Usually they are pickled with beets which gives them the red color and they're very tasty!

Shoefly pie is a mollasses pie. History says, they made them to keep the flies away from your foods n other desserts. Then ppl starting eating them. Like hush puppies. Made to hush the dogs up when you were frying fish. They made n threw them to the dogs. Then started eating them to.

I Love the buffet restaurants that Chinese food down one isle and the souL food down the other. 😐🤗👍 But that buffet restaurant that y'all are at.. Man I could get lost in that restaurant for sure.🤗 I have a very hard time making up my mind. I wouldn't know what to choose. I love so many types of dishes. Eventually I'll get it together. 🤗

The red egg is usually found within the Chinese culture. Its just a dyed hard boiled egg for the most part. The red represents good fortune and luck.
