Kai is the most unappreciated, underrated drummer... Until you hear him play. 💯

Yeah! And what's mostly the case with such a warm, modest and intelligent and ultra talented human as Kai: put him behind the drums and he changes 100%...so great to experience!

Drummers are a dime a dozen.....you either can play or can't. I appreciate their talent but it seems like you have to be young or good looking girl to be noticed.......

That's the curse in showbiz it's not just one discipline you have to be good at to get to the top... I must admit that the fans of a certain young, charming, cute, talented drummer got me to learn more about drummers and drumming.
@leorantamaki48168 ай бұрын
Underrated? About 20 years ago when I played drums seriously there was a consensus that Hahto is the best drummer in Finland. There is only signs of progress in his playing since that time.

He`s left handed on a right handed kit. He also has a drummers boot camp at his home, and says that he learns from his students.
@MikkoRantalainen4 ай бұрын
He has single learner boot camp building next to his house which includes all the stuff needed to live there and his wife (a trained chef) make food for the boot camp visitors. I don't know how much that camp costs but it sounds like 1st class service.

Yoooo Kai Hahto from Rotten Sound! Check out his drum cam videos: Kai Hahto rotten sound drum cam. Early 00s videos, crappy quality, but everyone who has played drums hears and knows what's going on in those videos. Groovy blast beats, epic technique and style.

Haha - Was looking forward to this after the Nightwish reaction yesterday. Did not dissapoint. I like your friend Dave, he's fun. Would be awesome to have a beer with him and talk music. Be interesting to see what he thinks of The Warning, one with Pau singing would mix things up a bit. :) Also hope you play some Ren, while there is no drums, Dave just seems to love music.

Man, I wish you'd actually show that full band playthrough when you do these for drummers. You can still hear all Kai's playing, and they focus on him A LOT... but it's more impressive with all the other instruments, plus it gives you something to listen to during those long periods of just straight-forward drumming.

Joel, bring back Dave whenever he has some free time... you owe him Wintersun with the full band! Also, Aquiles Priester, former Angra drummer, has the most well filmed drum playthroughs on youtube. He was also Elói Casagrande's teacher. Try Temple of Hate.

Fine reaction. Rodway is certainly very much in the music and enthusiastic. Talking of drummers. Joel, you should take a look at Mike Mangini, now former drummer of Dream Theater, doing The Alien. Live: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aqjVZaaQj8h3mcU. Tour prep.: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e3fbYmyGgt16isU And of course, try some Dream Theater. I can recommend videos from live in Boston Opera, and official videos of for example the aforementioned The Alien (Grammy winner) or Untethered Angel. But there is a huge amount of videos.

From what I understand, it was Jukka who recommended Kai to replace him when he had to quit Nightwish due to medical issues. Jukka is the more entertaining drummer, but Kai has more technical skill.
@PeeVee19798 ай бұрын
Marko in his book said that Jukka is more old school guy when it comes to drumming and Kai has more contemporary style. Both are awesome but you definitely can hear the difference. I'm not saying one is better than the othere, they're just different.
@marcfromparis3338 ай бұрын
Kai Hahto is a friend of Jukka. Before joining the band, he worked as a drum technician for Nightwish.
@joelroadie8 ай бұрын
I didn't know that. That's cool!

What makes Kai absoolutely mind blowing is how he plays like he does, and almost seems like he is BORED doing it. He makes it look so easy and effortless when he plays live. He's a very technical drummer compared to Jukka Nevalainen, who was a great drummer, but also more of a showman while playing. Kai isn't like that at all...he is ALL business behind the kit.
@Mattseak8 ай бұрын

@alexandersteinmetz68578 ай бұрын
I always find it absolute surprising, that Kai dont fall asleep, when druming for Nightwish, bcs He is used Wintersun Compositions. And ofc, he dont need to Shine at the Gigs, much like Empuu(NW Guitar), He just serves what the Song Needs. That surely dont push the Fame outside of us Fanboys of the Symph Metal Genre to get known better. His Anniversary Concert btw was an Banger. Stay Healthy!
@kimmomatikainen18438 ай бұрын
Irrelevant, but a minor correction. Name is Emppu and not Empuu :) Double consonant is unknown in most languages so it can be difficult to both pronounce and write. When you say Emppu, the p is long. You stop there for a second and then say the second p.
@timlubbers28848 ай бұрын
Interesting take, considering that’s not his take on it . His kit had to expand to accommodate the requirements of NW, and he’s stated that NW is just a different style, not less difficult…
