I think it's more that octopuses were attempting to be Kai Hahto in past life, then in this life they grew few tentacles, tried drumming and thought "Ah scr*w this sh*it, I'll move to the sea where there are no drums!"

That is all one song with a quiet almost acoustic section requiring no drums in the middle. For a Nightwish song with nice pedal work and some great fills try The Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean from Buenos Aires 2018.

To have a better view of what he is doing, I will second Tom Ellias's recommendation and use his link. Also here is a video of Kai explaining some of the techniques and time signatures he uses in this song. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eHiwk3t-nMyUZ5o

This video was a Pearl-sponsored clinic. I hope you catch that he can switch leads from right to legt and back...just cuz he CAN! And that left foot is working 3 pedals. He slips like, a 1/16th note from time to time w that left foot...but you have to really he looking for it. Technically, he's one of the greatest of a generation...and such perfect posture! Makes it all seem so easy! In addition to playing (still, from time to time) w Wintersun and Nightwish, he's an esteemed drum teacher in Finland. Thanks for checking him out! He's just remarkable to watch, as well as hear! And yes, this was one song!

About the kit, I don't know the model in this video, but at Nightwish, he has a Pearl Masters made especially for him, who chose the measurements, design and wood that would be used in each drum (I think there are two or three types wooden)

Thank you! You need to watch the actual music video. The song is so complex I guarantee you can not analyse it😁. And Nightwish has many songs with absolute blasting drumming. Kai is not a heavy hitter. He is a metronome. Jukka was a heavy hitter before Kai. Keep watching and learning. Thank you😍

SIR Kai Hahto is a very highly respected drummer and drumming teacher here in Finland. I don't fancy this song too much, but his drumming here is spectacular. Nightwish songs are much better composed as a whole, but not so much drumming related.
@TheGhostNotePodcast2 жыл бұрын
I agree that nightwish has much better compositions for the listener (especially non-musicians) to digest but these songs are fun for those who like to push an instrument to its limits. This kind of music is more for people who love the sport of being a musician and to me it’s just fun to listen to and see someone perform a complicated piece of art like this.

No blast beats for Nightwish until, perhaps, the very first one on their last album, at the end of "Pan" - have not seen it performed live, so not 100% sure, but some reviewers thought they caught some.
