I was growing up in a small village like that. At middle school, I had an American teacher from Main, and her name is Jen( Jenjira). She stayed in a house like that but it was not abandon condition. She was always drink Pepsi bc she was worry about drinking rain water. One night, my school had a party . My friend and I got to stay overnight in her room. That was the time that she showed us her home pictures in Main. I would never think that I will get to go to America. I feels so special to be with her in that one night. She was the queen of the ball party and she brought balloons in the room. We laid on the futon on the floor and she laid on her bed. The balloons were up on the ceiling. That was one of my best memory and you, Joe,remind me of that. Now I live happily in the US with my Thai -American family. I am lucky to get to go back to visit my Thailand family very often. I miss Thailand all the time. Life is amazing and wonderful but sometimes you have to stay very far from your Mother land. Thanks, Joe. PS: I know you from Kuhn Mark food video.

My grandma passed in March from covid and when I came across this video I started crying when you saw pa Mong and started tearing and I started to hear her say such loving things I started to cry myself. She reminds me of my grandma whom I extremely miss soo much. Glad you were able to see her after a long time

i always wanted visiting my first school and house in Thailand for more than 3 years. i have visited it for 2 times already since i left, now i am in my 8th year in thailand. My mom cried when she saw my first apartment. Trust me, they were not tears of joy 🤣. Like you, it was my first place all by myself. I was a new college grad with my first job. It was the first time in my life I was totally responsible for everything. My parents gave me a great foundation and it was time for my own journey. That was 36 years ago. this reminds me of when me and parents went to visit our old house.....it was so weird going back to the place we lived in for like 5 years. Man the nostalgia and the memories hit hard even now.

I am a normal guy! Without God's grace, I am frustrated, foolish, without hope... ok those are big words, but honestly even day to day (while living in this town), life could get so crazy that sometimes it was OBVIOUS (and such a gift!) to be able to see that without hope and faith, I really had no chance whatsoever of making it through those days. So in this way, I say God made it actually EASY on me by living there - because I then needed to exercise my faith almost every day! :)

Many of my friends used to live in houses like that in Penang. There’s nothing wrong with living in a house like this. I see many happy carefree families living in houses like that. That last scene is so touching and beautiful when you hugged her

Home is anywhere your heart is. Adversity often tests our strength, and helps to give us appreciation, and build character. That house is actually still better than a lot of places people have to live. The fact that you still respect it as your former home, and appreciate having it when you were there, speaks of your character. You see the sunlight, even on cloudy days, and take the lessons to be learnt.🙏 On a side-note, I grew up having geckos coming into our house in the night. They creeped me out! I love iguanas, but scared of them, and all other lizards...🥴🤪 I understand Li's fear, especially since she is not used to them. You are an honorable person, Joel...keep that spirit. (Wrote this just halfway through and posted, and then right after you talked about your appreciation for your home...then met the caretaker! You have me in tears. You are a blessing Joel!🙏)

I find it very difficult to take compliments, but can deal with criticism very well, because I know that I have to work on myself to improve something...but compliments throw me for a loop...lol... That being said though, I had to let you know how I felt, and how much I appreciate the APPRECIATION THAT YOU show for the country, the culture, the traditions, the people...and the humble circumstances that you were in...
