Had he not been famous for making drunken tv appearances I doubt he'd be remembered much at all. There are hundreds of excellent British actors who are virtually unknown today. As for tearing down a statue of him, he wasn't involved in the slave trade or a dubious historical figure to my knowledge, just an actor who drank too much. Much of what he says in these interview clips would be dismissed as the ramblings of a drunk had it been a homeless person saying it

@@Jamie-js3qw Some have obviously heard the stories of his narcissistic behaviour off-screen and are unable to seperate him from his screen personas, therefore give him an overall bad critique. Others, I'm guessing, feel he is still acting in this particular interview, myself included. Personally, I thought he always put in a consumate professional performance, but disliked him as a human being, but I can seperate the two and give due credit on merit. This interview, however, if you study him, once he was told the camera had been switched off, you'll see he looks twice at the camera, to reassure himself it's still going to plan, smiling at a camera that's supposed to be off, happy with his performance thus far, agreeing to answer a further question, while feigning ignorance of the fact the camera was still running. I worked at Auntie Beeb. Saville was an open secret, protected from on high. Anyone that raised concern was immediately huckled out the door, contract terminated, threatened with court proceedings and, as it was allowed by law at the earlier stages, given an horrendous job reference that usually included the phrase 'Cannot be trusted with money!" even if they were, say, a scenery painter. When it became illegal to provide bad references they'd simply refuse to provide one. I am not, even for one second, suggesting Ollie was a paedo, let me make that very clear. I am using this as an extreme example of how the Beeb protected the reputations of those contracted to appear on their stations, however, word of mouth spreads fast and stars gained reputations for being wonderful or a pleasure to deal with and others of being difficult and demanding. Some, unfortunately, were abusive, overbearing, bullying had the power to end someone's career over a minor issue and some done just that. Minor narcissists can be appeased by apologies for imaginary transgressions. Full blown narcissists can't, as they are unable to resist the urge to totally destroy the lives of any who gainsay say them by look, never mind word. I will forever admire Ollie's work, but have not a jot of respect for him as a person. Just in case you were wondering, no, I personally never had a run-in with him. I kept well clear, because I can't keep my mouth shut! Lol.

Lived just down the road from Ollie in that huge mansion. Met him a few times in the local pub, the Scarlet Arms, run then by Booie and her "barman" John who lived in a caravan in the garden. Fabulous King and Barnes beer from barrels in room behind the bar, so was starbright perfect. Ollie was always charming there, but could run amok if with the builders in other local pubs.

Tavy@ oliver reed was a great actor! One of the best ever!!!! And alex higgins for 7 year at least from 1978 to 1985 was the greatest player in the world. Alex could and sould of won the world title at least 5 times easy, if he took the easy ball first but we know he didnt, he wanted to entertain the crowd! That "GO ON ALEX" alex changed the game forever!!! Btw a looked at all hes early to mid 1970s stuff, and hes early to mid 1980s stuff!!!!! In the early to mid 1970s he could and should of ran amock Till the early 80s anyway. In 1980 against cliff thorburn alex should of took the frame instead he played to the crowd and cliff won it. But alex had it won!!! R.I.P ALEX and thancks for the memorys you are still missesd so much!!!

1992, a teenager coming back from a trip from Florida, some guy kept getting out of his seat in a heavy dose of turbulence, dressed in the most outlandish garb of gold and a gold hat, the air stewards were constantly corralling him like a wild boar on a ranch (only missing the lasoo) we all found it very amusing, except the person himself rat arsed, Alex really was off the charts
