Hi, just found your video, I too did a complete restoration of a 1960 's. Seeburg Jukebox. Took me about two years in all, has been working fine for over a year now. Complete with over 500 records to swop in and out. Many head aches on the way , will subscribe and follow your progress and help were I can. Best wishes from France.

John, Yay I knew that you would succeed, just don't bother anything on it yet till you see if the left side works and the pickup changes to the left side as it brings a record up to play position. I think that your problem was the thrust plate that you put back on top of the clutch casting. the whole shaft was moving up and down. I think you are fine on the clutch now. looks like the record is coming up good, but you may have to adjust the memory unit position just a tad to get it to pick up the records from one end to the other!

Hi John, Have you put the Thrust plate back on the clutch Housing at the top? it is part of the bracket that holds the counter solenoid. With out it the Clutch Shaft will move up and down with the Skew Gears depending on the direction of the carriage This will cause the clutch jump in and out. Have a look at page 2433 at the top of the drawing . Also the bent Spring goes on the end of the Trip lever just to the Left where it is now, you can see the groove.
@harryhall50926 жыл бұрын
Thanks, you are right, I noticed the thrust plate too and was going to comment!!

Hello John, it's great to see you make progress with the old Jukebox. I'll admit I watch every of your episodes, not only because they are entertaining/instructive, but also because it so happens an acquaintance of mine has (nearly) the exact same one you are restoring and he's sort of counting on me to help him out with some problems in his Seeburg. As for your tribulations with the clutch, I kept watching the spot on the back where you indicated the clutch several times, and I couldn't help noticing that small set screw just on the right below the "fork" that moves the clutch up and down. I can't be certain 100% of course, but is it just possible the screw is set a bit too tight not allowing the fork to descend completely? Anyway, I had to smile watching your elation at your success... it felt reminiscent of one of those old Batman episodes, where Batman tells Robin they are close on the tails of their suspect **grin** Robin showing a lot of enthusiasm of course **KAPOW!** Keep the good work up and thanks for sharing
@Lenny86792056 жыл бұрын
I think Skycarl is correct. When you get the temperature up in the shop it works. The lubricants may be to heavy. I also noticed on video #73 at 15:14 there is a torsion spring on the yoke shaft to hold the coupling engaged, the spring may be weak making the coupling disengage. I bet you could stop the carriage when moving with 1 finger and the clutch would disengage. Perhaps weak spring or to much drag on the carriage. That's my 2 cents!
@joernone6 жыл бұрын
That's a good 2-cents, Len. I'll bet all the springs in this thing should be changed, which will probably happen somewhere down the line. Regards, John

What's the difference between all those bars, taverns and juke joints and your workshop?,,, All those places stay warm day and night and your shop doesn't. That has to be a major factor. Almost there John. Hang in there buddy, it'll be jumping soon.
@joernone6 жыл бұрын
Who knows, Carl? It could be a million different reasons. BTW...how come you know so much about taverns and bars? Regards, John
@AMStationEngineer6 жыл бұрын
Agreed, John may also have to 'walk into it', on occasion, just like many used to do when leaving that tavern (with a hopefully loose woman).... I wish that I was still alive!
@WaybackTECH6 жыл бұрын
Well I guess if it is a temperature related thing, facing your heater to blow on it when it acts up would tell you fairly quickly. Maybe there is a humidity factor. Strange. Maybe there is enough wear on some of the teeth that when it is cold enough and things have shrunk a bit, teeth are no longer meshing into each other far enough to handle the torque. Things heat up, gears, cogs, rails whatever else expand enough for the teeth to hold again and things start working. Just a thought. I like the color of blue you used.
@joernone6 жыл бұрын
All you said could be a combined problem, but maybe not. I'm still looking at other reasons. The blue color is the original color of the mechanism...or the closest I can find. It does look neat. Regards, John

Hi John, fantastic getting real close now. Hows wifie doing? Hope she's recovering well and had a nice mother's day.
@juniorbcm53756 жыл бұрын
The reason it only works when it's hot might be because of some old grease somewhere on the mechanism, that hardens in a cold environment.

That is completely awesome John....All I got is that metal reacts to temperature and perhaps that is in play. When its cold adjustments are not exactly what you think they are. I am sure this was not designed to be in cold conditions. Does the manual contain a statement on operating temperature ? I hope you do have a speaker connected to the amp or at least a dummy load resistor. That can damage the amp without one. GREAT PROGRESS my friend.
@joernone6 жыл бұрын
Ron, Relax, my friend, the amp isn't even connected...just sitting on the bench top. I want to first try to fix the channel one issue. Regards, John
@dynamic8819646 жыл бұрын
Hi John, congrats on getting it to pick the record up ! I can''t help but wonder if you ( and others ) aren't on to something with room temp. Not only would the metal expand/contract , but wouldn't the oil and grease get thicker when colder ? Just a thought ! Dave in Mi. aka KC8YOX
@joernone6 жыл бұрын
Dave, It's possible, my friend. But it really doesn't get very cold in enough in Arkansas, so it's doubtful. Regards, John
@amberola1b6 жыл бұрын
I just thought of something, does it also matter that when you make one selection and the selector light didn't go out after choosing your record, that when you pushed the buttons to select your record that maybe there wasn't good contact being made and that having the select record light still on means that the record mechanism didn't know to choose a record?
@joernone6 жыл бұрын
Good question. I don't know the answer. Regards, John
