Neil's not as smart as his fans think he is. A lot of his stuff is wrong. The above addled ramblings on infinite sets earned Tyson some well deserved ridicule on the bad mathematics subreddit: www.reddit.com/r/badmathematics/comments/5vnnym/neil_degrasse_tyson_theres_more_transcendental/

@@fredsmith9342 Fred Smith, if you hadn't slept through high school you'd know the folks on Reddit have good cause to ridicule Tyson. Cardinality of infinite sets is often part of *high school* algebra. Here's another page on the topic. www.rationalskepticism.org/general-science/neil-degrasse-tyson-doing-a-disservice-t53874.html Or maybe you could try Googling cardinality of the transcendentals and irrationals. Nah... If you're the typical Tyson fan you are too fucking stupid to use Google.

@@fredsmith9342 Your argument the ad hominem fallacy. Don't examine the arguments presented. Discard the evidence offered. Why? Because you don't like the source. Another fallacy that focuses on the messenger rather than the message: Appeal To Authority. In your case you choose to believe there are more transcendental numbers than irrationals because a "scientist" told you so. It is telling that so many of Tyson's defenders love logical fallacies.

Also, I think he meant 'I love this guy, he happens to be 'the black guy' and if I just said 'science man', I could have meant anybody, but this way, you know I mean Neil.' Harmless, in a way, since he's praising him, rather, but, indeed, I don't think Neil would like it, but I don't think he'd really be offended at all. But, anyway.

Joe Rogan's format is great for giving people room to explain their thinking. I really enjoyed Neil's perspectives and ideas, and he was bang on the money suggesting that cognitive biases should be one of the most important courses in our school systems and should be taught early in the curriculum. This would of course create the problem of having genuinely educated members of society, and that would be quite the wrench in the gears of our corporate money-magic culture.

We're all the same in these kind of situations. Chatting with somebody a few leagues above you intellectually, you'll tend to listen far more than you talk, I imagine it's amplified to the extreme if you were sitting down with a scholarly titan like Neil DeGrasse Tyson. Hell, credit to Rogan for not being intimidated by it.

Det Nine that's true in many cases. But I've watched many JRE podcasts and Joe's knowledge on many topics is deeper than "headline knowledge". He can hold his own on numerous issues and displays a good grasp/understanding of the matters he has researched. He isn't trying to seem smart, he is genuinely curious. Sure he can be a bit bone headed, and say some silly things but for a guy who often gets called an idiot, moron, meathead, stoner, shill, etc. his level/quality of discourse with some quite brilliant folks, is noteworthy.
@Matthew-uv6gl7 жыл бұрын
Regardless if it is a common strategy or not, people in Joe's position, his job, opens him up to tons of new people and ideas, How deep that knowledge goes, I don't know, but I don't think it is wrong to suggest that knowledge is more vast than if he were to do the same daily routine with no new incoming information for decades. His job and other's, by its nature, exposes him to vast amounts of new information. If people gather new information by sitting in solitude reading books, hey no problem what an intellectual! But if someone gathers new information by interacting with people socially, it is looked down upon as if it is a lower standard of learning. Not saying you are doing this, just an observation in general.

Wild Woody honestly a lot better than I made it out to be. The only problem is my roommate is pretty annoying and is a blatant communist. He has a poster of Leon Trotsky above his bed and a book titled “Quotations from the great chairman Mao Zedong”. I think I need to balance this out by buying an Adam smith poster lol

I always find it odd when people bring up things for no reason, like how you brought up how you're about to start college when no one asked you, its irrelevant info and either you wanted to brag because for some reason you thought strangers on the internet would give two shits or a fuck.. Or you're just lonely.
@shushanthswinderballs11226 жыл бұрын
snavis maybe I just wanted to express my gratitude for this interview and how well and entertaining it is.... Occam’s razor. 65.9% of people in the US attend or went to college so I don’t see how that’s a brag. Take that stick out of your ass. Also if this is irrelevant, why did you take the time to waste your own time and respond sounding like an absolute dumbass.

As for those tax credits, laws in 10 states require car companies operating in those states to sell a certain number of “zero emissions” vehicles. Since only electric cars qualify as “zero emissions” vehicles, and these companies don’t, in general, make electric cars, they buy these tax credits from Musk. So far, Musk has made $517 million in profit at taxpayer expense.- Breitbart News. Still think hes a great guy?
