i understand the sentiment, but in my experience, most of the time it's the exact opposite. people like this take the drugs to clam their brains down, and when high on drugs they typically are much more relaxed, calm, and subdued--- even the hard stimulants like coke. he seems manic when he's sober on camera-- but probably isn't that way 100% of the time. i would bet his manic states on coke would be about the same level of pumped, but happened less often than when he's sober. that's why he took the coke. and when he ran out of coke, he drank. and when he drank, he wanted coke. he genuinely is probably less amped when he's on drugs than just being sober, that's what's really crazy. dont take drugs kids, trust me. but seems like he has a good grip on life now, that was a long time ago. love this dude

7 years clean now. One of my biggest fears was losing touch with who I was socially. I’m a big personality and it is other people like Matty that made me realize that our vices don’t make us the people we were meant to be. I’m still out here making people laugh, making the world wonder what I am going to come up with next. And if you are someone who feels that way and is scared to find out you might not be the same person, my advice is to take the adventure head on. Your best version of yourself will come to the forefront.

@@brianortega3588 Ain’t nothing to it but to do it! I smoked weed for 16 years. I smoked so much that I didn’t even get that high anymore. No matter what strain I smoked. If I did, it’ll have to be a whole lot. I felt like the weed was smoking me instead. Same with drinking. I would want more & more quality liquor. Started buying expensive bottles. I got to the same point. I started questioning myself like why am I really doing this? So I just flat out quit. I started working out religiously 6 days a week. Listening to David Goggins really helped. And I started listening to Dave Ramsey as well. Wanted to save more money & invest too. Then I started to grow a passion for cooking. I cooked quality food, always wanted to test myself on the quality & presentation, fine dining stuff. I started seeing results in all these things. I got addicted to seeing results, & feeling better. If you’re on the fence, take it from me. A person that’s been addicted for so many years. When you start accomplishing more & challenging yourself, you get high off success. It does not bring you the same feeling as drugs & alcohol. But you’ll be so motivated trying to create more beneficial results for your future that partaking in drugs will feel like a downgrade.

Been there for sure. Just understand that the feelings you have after drinking will never go away unless you stop. A vicious cycle but when you see what it's like healthy, etc. re mind yourself about how bad you'll feel if you drink. Stay strong man and be kind to yourself. You can (and have) do it...just have to keep it going👍

On week 3 of quitting weed. It’s an insidious drug in the way that it’s not as detrimental as opiates or alcohol but it will slowly chip away at your relationships, aspirations and overall health. I’m now regularly exercising, reconnecting with old friends, saving money and working towards my dreams. If you can smoke weed in moderation then good for you but I was doing it all day every day and I turned into a lazy, forgetful zombie. That shit slowly but surely killed my spark until I didn’t know who I was anymore.

im a month in from quitting my binge drinking and smoking all day every day. Its really such a relief of the overwhelming need to just smoke and "relax" and have a 12 pack a night not to mention the shots in between beers. Realized after a while it was bringing me down and changed my mindset to just accept every shitty aspect to my life. Thoughts of suicide were always on my mind. Lost friendships lost relationships all stemmed from my need to be high and not feeling the pain of everyday life. But now I have already dropped 25lbs since I started this journey of being sober. My mindset and goals are totally changed from a month ago and I feel the need to follow the dreams I once had and know they will be achieved if I press forward and not give in. Im with ya here bro, its a hard journey but anything is possible if you keep your mind sober and know you will be a better person than your past self. Keep it up.

Same. Been stuck on the crap for 20 years now. Messed with a few other drugs in college that really should have been hard to get off but I quit no problem. Try to stop weed though and I get all the DT's you would expect from somebody quitting heroin. Sweating profusely, hot then cold flashes, tremors, can't sleep, can't eat, dry heaving, muscle cramps, etc. I'm spending about $600 a month at the dispensary right now and I really don't have that kind of money top spend. I'm so tired of hearing people say you can't get physically addicted to weed. Especially when a bunch of the people saying that are people who smoke and when they don't have any weed you literally see them going through withdrawals and being in denial about it. "Ah no bro I think I just ate something bad that upset my stomach and I'm kinda irritable because you know Ive been having trouble sleeping..." Anyway just a rant, good luck bro hope everything keeps getting better for ya.

You'll continue to see this narrative throughout life. It's called the hero's journey.
@dracomaifoy73773 жыл бұрын
Joseph Campbell spent his whole life researching myths and legends from around the world right? So he finds these common themes running through all these stories, and all these themes have common patterns. He found they're all the same no matter what culture you find them in right? Like the hero of the story lives a boring existence, he gets the call to adventure, he goes or stays, they enter the unknown, they have aid from the supernatural, or allies, or artifacts, they have ordeals or tests and finally they get their reward and they go home. The hero's journey or the monomyth was something he wrote about in "The Hero with a Thousand Faces". Ok great. How does this relate to addicts?
@jamikatechaos99723 жыл бұрын
Every person's battle is with themselves. Overcoming yourself, your shadow self, the ego. In cinema and literature, the hero's journey is entertaining and larger than life, but grandiose commonalities isn't what makes it epic. It's humanity's shared experience; seeing that you are your darkest enemy, but also, you are your only hope for redemption. Of course, irl, THJ is about addiction. It's about everything. Everyone's greatest obstacle is their great obstacle. The ppl who step up to themselves, are their own saviors; the heros.

“Young” is the key word Matty kept using that really sums a lot of his previous issues up. Takes most of us at least 25-30 years on the planet to realize you are not as smart and invincible as you think you are. But how do you make someone in their 20’s-early 30’s understand with absolutely zero life experience
@jacobhartwell82113 жыл бұрын
I agree with a lot of this but if you have zero life experience by 25ish you’ve either been pampered or haven’t tried anything.
@MQXM0013 жыл бұрын
You can’t teach someone if they are unable to listen. Some young people are smart and can listen. I was not. I’m 23 and definitely had to learn about my faults the hard way. Probably still got a lot further to go. For people like me, the only way to learn is by going through the pain yourself. It’s a hard lesson, but that’s the only way some of us learn.

I was a meth addict from age 15-23 also dabbled in heroin for some time as well cause my 2 best friends were heroin addicts. Got clean around 2014 when a friend of mine OD on some drugs I got for him. Since then I haven't touched meth or heroin and it's the best decision I've made. It honestly wasn't hard.for me to quit cause this time around I was just done I had nothing left to give to drugs and knew if I didn't get clean now I'd end up homeless and a junkie for the rest of my life. I definitely wouldn't be the dad I am today if I still used drugs and I'm glad I quit drugs before my kids were born and they never had to see me live that way. Keep going strong people it's hard in the beginning but it gets so much better and is way better than living like an addict

Congrats to him. I've been battling alcoholism for 10 years and the best I've been able to do is give up liquor for beer. It's a powerful addiction. I know the only way I could truly get completely sober would be if I was locked in room and monitored 24/7. Obviously that's not a realistic possibility. I've tried everything else though. Therapy, I've read books that everyone says got them sober. None of it works. I guess I'll have to find a unique strategy for myself someday.
@Sniperboy5551 Жыл бұрын
Beer is better than liquor, but maybe you need to go to a medical detox. I think most hospitals will be able to refer you to a local place and they’ll give you medications to help deal with any acute withdrawal symptoms.
