Endorsement money or not it's still LeBron's hard earned money, and those are inner city kids, so let's be honest; whatever school they would've gone to would have shitty teachers as well. At least the kids have a good environment, enough food, and good influences around them to make sure they don't fall back into gang violence and drugs.. they're not gonna make one of those underprivileged kids who were struggling into Albert Einstein, but hopefully they can turn them around and help them become functioning members of society

Melby Villas I’ve been there myself, I was the quiet kid in grades k1-11th grade because I was put on ADD/ADHD meds in kindergarten and high doses at that. I was an easy target because I liked rock music, anime, video games, and kept to myself at my Christian private school. I started cutting myself in 7th or 8th grade during finals and wanted to kill myself from 6th grade on. It wasn’t until I went to a military boarding school between 10th and 11th grade for summer school on the condition my parents sent me to public school that things changed for me. I found self-confidence in those 5 weeks, got in good shape, and no one knew me at the public school so I was able to come into my own and make genuine friends without my aggressors targeting me and putting me down. I finally got female attention, partied with the “in crowd” as that was the group that brought me in, but I struggled internally because of the pain I was subjected to for the majority of my childhood. Now I realize what is important and that taking the high-road is more beneficial than stooping down to the level of those that hurt others even if they hurt me. (I’m 26 now) I don’t have many friends now but I am working on finding what is important to me and what I want from my life and future. It took years of drug addiction, self-destruction, and wanting others to see the pain that was inside me before I realized that no one cared and it just pushed others away. I dunno if what I wrote means anything to anyone but a year and a day ago I tried to take my life in a very very serious attempt and surviving it changed my life for the better. I lost the desire to get high/drunk and threw myself into the AA program working on myself and my flaws. I matured and learned that I was the common denominator in my problems and that year has been the most beneficial of my life so far.

I remember in high school I saw this huge kid picking on this nerdy kid, I wasn’t even gonna get involved because I always just mind my business and keep to myself; but being a relatively athletic guy (I was a wrestler) my girlfriend kept telling me to go help him, I was going to, but this kid was about to get his beat up. He was just minding his business doing his home work being a good student. I ended up caving in and I went over and stood my ground for him. Afterwards I asked him if he was all good, he didn’t respond, his face said it all. 5 years later after high school I step into a barber shop and sit down and funny enough the nerdy kid I stood up for is now a barber and he cut my hair. He smiled so hard when he saw me and after the hair cut he said “hey man.. thanks for that one day, I’ll never forget that” I hadn’t cried In so long, I walked out that shop with tears streaming down my face. It’s okay to mind your business and keep to yourself in this crazy world today.. but if you have the ability and power to step in a be someone’s hero: do it. If they don't stop after the third time, punch them in the face and don't stop punching until they run away". I ended up getting suspended but it didn't matter. Principal couldn't believe my dad told me to do that. But I never got bullied again I'll tell ya that.

I got almost exact same lesson, except from my mother, who also added "It doesn't matter how big and bad they are as long as you pick up something to make yourself bigger and badder." I was pretty small for my age when I was young. Also they don't always run, sometimes they just go down. So the rule was, you only stop when they stop. Never continue if they are done. Be quiet, always be polite, but if they cross that line then show em, win or lose I will make you regret this.

This broke my heart. 😥 My teenage daughter was being bullied at her school, it went on for a year, I had meetings and mediations with the school who promised to stop it to no avail. These kids harassed her at school, on her phone, online, there was no escaping it. The school did nothing and my daughter was suicidal. Eventually I gave up on the school doing anything so yes I took matters into my own hands. One day I went to the school at lunchtime and hunted down a boy who was one of the main bullies. This boy had told my daughter to kill herself the day prior. He was 6ft tall (I’m 5ft nothing). I marched my ass up to him and went to town on this kid in front of all his friends. I broke him down and cussed him out, told him if he even looks sideways at my daughter again I’d kill him. By the end of it all the kids had moved away and he was nearly in tears. I didn’t care that he was only 15, that’s well and truly old enough to know better. I was fully prepared to receive a visit from police afterwards, considering I’d threatened a minor, but strangely enough nothing. From that day forth NOT ONE of those kids has given my girl grief. They all think I’m seriously unhinged and I’m happy with that. 😂 Bullies are nothing but scum and I’ll protect my kids with my life.

So no matter what the size of the person, or number of kids I would retaliate as I know my mum would see me bruised, and I did'nt want to let her down. Still had to fight most days but it stopped the frequency in a day and made me a much more confident person. I eventually got a rep and would stick up for the bullied. I wouldn't change it. Times have changed though and most bullying is done on social media. I don't know what I'd say to my kids now. Probably tell them to not use social media, but most kids use it and I suppose it's like saying you can't have a games console.

Now I realise that when I was 11, my classmate invited everyone to his birthday party at KFC. I came prepared with a birthday present and a happy birthday note. My mom dropped me off but there was no one at the venue. My mom even got the manager to call the nearby branches and there was no party. My mom brought me home and I remember feeling confused and shrugged it off. The next day in school I told him about it. He laughed and said he couldn't believe I fell for a prank. Fully agree with you, some parents don't pay anywhere near enough attention to their child's mental health, or might actually be contributing to their downslide. I'm really happy that times have changed and that education around mental health issues is mainstream, but like you, I wish my parents had that knowledge when I was a kid. Just a side note, it's never to late to try and get help for yourself or even just talk to someone you trust. Just know that you're not alone even when you feel like you are, there are many, many others that know exactly how you feel. I hope you're doing well 💜

I never think about the past, but the past created my personality, and that you never change. Personality is set by age 8. The rest is just managing the personality you have.
@toxendon7 жыл бұрын
That is absolutely not true, our personality changes throughout our lives! Yes, a lot is developed early. But our perspective on the world and on ourselves can change. I was bullied by my teacher and most of the school from I was 7-12 and it has given me so many destructive foundational thoughts about myself. Like the underlying feeling that nobody *really* wants to talk with you, they are just hiding their contempt to be polite... But slowly and surely I am unlearning the perception of myself that was thrown at me at a young age. I still have a long way to go, but it is never too late. However, I agree - I can never completely remove the rot. But I can remove most of it, and what's left can be talked about and managed in a loving environment so that it holds no power over you. But it is impossible to do alone. You need to actively find someone who can fight with you on that transformation.

@@Malibu7Seven well true but not necessarily. You'd be surprised how much baggage you carry after being tormented. Its always good to talk about it and not just let it go. Of course try to get past it as best as possible but any extra stress you still carry from those situations its always good to have someone you can trust. You know you have a true friend if you can literally tell them anything that bothers you and they won't judge you and will be there for you whenever you need them. Don't ever listen to someone who tells you the past is the past just get over it. Problems don't always heal themselves. Its always good to have someone you can talk to about something bothering you is all I'm saying but I get what you mean. Just don't sell yourself short. Dont know your situation but don't downplay it if it was really serious to you. If it really hurt you and affected you and still does trigger you at times it could be more serious than you may be playing it down to be. I know im just some random person on the internet but when I hear people on videos about depression or suicide or whatever commenting depressing things it breaks my heart and I as well as any other decent person out there on the internet am there for anyone dealing with serious depression or suicidal thoughts. Don't know the extent of your pain but it sounds like you may be trying to deflect some of the pain your facing by minimizing it. Could be that you're just trying to be tough and that it wasn't that serious but being vulnerable and saying something really hurt you when it really has is commendable and honorable not only that but sometimes necessary when the wound and the extent of a situation was large enough to continue to impact you currently causing an emotional response when you think about a situation in detail. That's a sign that whatever hurt you dealt with is probably at least somewhat serious. Anyways wish you the best and truly hope you are doing well as well as everyone else including my own enemies and bullies. Forgiveness by the way is the most crucial tool for getting past a past hurt. Christianity has been tremendously helpful to me and instilled more wisdom about social issues then I can possibly explain with words. If you haven't found Christ you're missing out on a lot in your life. Just simply trusting and claiming that Jesus is your savior is the best overall wound healer. Not only now but eternally you will be granted security and joy and every other good thing you could ever possibly ask for. God granted me joy after years of depression and I can tell you personally the feeling of joy is absolutely necessary in your day to day. Having joy doesn't mean you're always happy but is something you absolutely have or you don't and when you have it you start to realize how important and necessary it is in your life. And hoy and all other great things only come from God so if you currently are blessed with some of those great gifts God is to thank for that sometimes He's working through your life and you don't even know it or aren't even a believer in Him. To believe in God and His son Jesus as savior is by far the best thing you can do for yourself. Take it from me not as a preachy point of view but as an offering from God that He has an open invitation for anyone at anytime for a better life. I'm saying all this simply to say this this isnt me beating around the bush just to bring God into this but to state that God is totally relevant to this situation you are in and that allowing Him to work in your life is by far the best thing you can do for yourself and that most christians that post everything God related on every video not relating to God usually truly care about everyone else as they do themselves. Us real christians truly know God and truly are being selfless most of the time typing messages constantly trying to convert others not as some crazy bible thumpers but because they believe in eternity and want nothing more but for everyone else to make it to heaven. Wish you the best and God bless. Hope if you read this you take it for how I meant it and don't disregard that I just wish everyone the best and truly want you to feel as tho others care for you too.

Once I did that, I was able to close the chapter on that part of my life. Also, learning that my parents may not have socialized me properly as a kid helped me learn more about why it happened. To this day I don't talk to any of the kids I went to high school with (grade 7-12 here in Australia), I have since started an entirely new life with new friends. I may have let it go and forgiven them for it, but I don't need to be friends with them for that to happen. Bullies are often high in social intelligence, therefore they have a much higher chance of succeeding later in life, sad but true. Their victims on the other hand have higher chance of developing a mental illness and commiting suicide, therefore less success later in life. Life is not fair, karma probably doesn't exist.
@RobinJensen226 жыл бұрын
Well, killing the bullies is not an answer. They will learn nothing from being killed. If they live on, however, there is a chance of them realizing what they have subjected their victims to. Life has a tendency to correct our mistakes, and make us understand certain things, whatever we want that or not. That's why, among other things, a death penalty is not a right way to handle serious crime. When you kill someone, you are actually doing them a favour by sparing them from suffering, which life certainly consists of. If someone really wants to make a certain person suffer, then I suggest blinding them, cutting out their tongues, severing of their limbs etc. Killing them is hindering them from suffering.
@RobinJensen226 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry for missing the point, I'm under the influence right now. But I think I understand what you mean. There is no chance a bully can make up for the damage they have done to someone, no matter how much they regret it. Life is not fair, and one can't expect to be fully or at all compensated for the wrongs one might experience. But there certainly is a great potential to grow as a human being through learning to cope with one's past experiences. You basically have no choice but to learn to cope, suicide is not the answer. I'm writing this as someone who has experienced bullying, suffered from major depression, suicidal tendencies and managed to overcome my psychological trauma. I must admit though, I didn't do it by myself, I have a loving family and a few great friends. Even that wasn't enough though. I wouldn't recommend this to everyone, but it was the most effective cure for my psyche. I cured myself through psilocybin mushrooms and LSD, they turned my life around, I'm enjoying my stay on this planet once again, and I haven't had a long lasting depressive episode or suicidal thought in many years now.

It's crazy how it still hurts when it's brought up this much (I don't think about it otherwise). Also the toxicity it did during my development. I'm too nice now because I don't want another "enemy" not that I did anything wrong to begin with. This is real shit... it takes people of our age a lot of courage to talk about it.

Damn, reminds me of me when I was in elementary. Was bullied for being a chunky little girl, eventually it lead to me being anorexic at age 11 with suicidal thoughts. I gradually began to return to a healthy weight and the kids didn’t pick on me anymore. They still don’t talk to me and think I’m weird for not talking to them or wanting to interact with them. Got trust issues after this :/

@pfschuyler5 жыл бұрын
@@ll-mc8bx Well, its probably not a good idea. But a bully is an instigator of 'badness'. Whereas kicking the ass of that bully is not the same thing at all, its actually a form of justice. Almost all heroes in pretty much any oral or written tradition (in any culture) are 'levelers', not instigators. i.e. Batman is a not bully, he's a form of society righting the systemic wrongs. Not to mention the fact that letting a bully get away with it just perpetuates the bullying. That's clearly shown in studies with kids and in life. John Stossel did a special on this many years ago where the conclusion was that bullies statistically-speaking earned more money, lived in nicer neighborhoods, later in life, etc., and pretty much just kept bullying right to the bank.
@ll-mc8bx5 жыл бұрын
@@pfschuyler I agree with sticking up for yourself, that's not what I was saying when I replied to your statement. I was trying to say that pursuing bullies long after the fact for revenge, or to even the score is pointless, even though I know you weren't being completely serious when you said it. Also being a leveler is risky, I've walked this fine line myself and it tilts between being bullied and being the bully, school yard rules are really stupid, it's like prison in a way. At the end of the day, if someone is hurting you and they won't respond to you asking to stop then by all means knock them down a few.

There are people 25 yrs and younger (approximately) that needed consequences to being pieces of shit, and they never got that. @Samew00014 жыл бұрын
I would disagree. Sure it happens but adults tend to stand up for themselves. Kids often feel powerless or maybe they don't know what to do. And social pressures just compound the problem. As an adult you should have the sense to stand your own. If not, it's time to grow up and do it. I just think it's part of being an adult. If you can't stand up for yourself as an adult, you're just going to have a hard time. And i feel like you definitely have to know how to deal with assholes if you have kids, so you can protect them, show them what being assertive looks like, and pass on those skills. And it's like someone else said kids don't know how to cope, adults have better coping mechanisms.

THIS WAS MY CHILDHOOD FROM K-8. IT HURT, IT REALLY HURT HOW CRUEL KIDS CAN BE. I WAS BORN WITH A CLEFT LIP/CLEFT PALLET. SO I HAD A SCAR ON MY UPPER LIP FROM THE SURGERY RIGHT AFTER I WAS BORN. SO THROUGH ELEMENTRY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL THE SCAR WAS VERY VISIBLE. AND IT WAS EITHER 3-10 KIDS OUT OF A CLASS OF 25-30. SOMETIMES IT WAS 20 OF THE KIDS GANGING UP MAKING FUN OF ME. I WAS TOO NICE AND NAIVE AND SCARED TO FIGHT BACK OR EVEN STAND UP FOR MYSELF. ESPECIALLY WHEN THERE WOULD BE SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS, THAT WAS THE WORST. AND AT HOME I DEALT WITH AN ALCOHOLIC FATHER THAT JUST MADE THINGS WORSE. AND MOM WORKED ALL DAY 12 HOUR SHIFTS AS A TEACHER SO SHE COULDNT HELP MUSH BECAUSE WHEN SHE GOT HOM,E SHE HAD TO MAKE DINNER AND DEAL WIOTH DRUNK DAD LEAVING ME TO CRAZY OLDER SISTER'S LIES AND STORY TELLING. TO CUT FORWARD IN LIFE THERE WAS A FEW KEY INDIVIDUALS THAT HAD REALLY POSITIVE THINGS THAT THEY SHARED WITH ME THAT REALLY STUCK WITH ME. ONE OF WHICH , WHAT DOSENT KILL YOU MAKES YOU STRONGER AND I AM WHO I AM TODAY BECAUSE OF WHAT I WENT THROUGH THEN. I FOUGHT WITH SEVERE DEPRESSION, STILL AM BUT MEDICATED NOW, AND ANXIETY AND THOUGHTS OF SUICIDE WHEN I WAS YOUNG. I HAD JUST ENOUGH PEOPLE HELP ME TO GET TO WHERE IM AT NOW. NOW I HAVE SAVED PEOPLE FROM SUICIDE ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. TALKED DOWN PEOPLE FIGHTING, I SAVED A LITTLE GIRLS LIFE , MAYBE 5 YEARS OLD, FROM AROLL OVER ACCIDENT AND OF THE 30 PEOPLE TRYING TO HELP I WAS THE MOST CALM OF THEM ALL. THE LITTLE GIRL WAS BLEEDING FROM HER HEAD AND PEOPLE WERE FREAKING OUT AROUND HER AND I OPENED MYT ARMS AND QUIETLY PUSHED THEM AWAY AND CALMED THE GIRL DOWN SO SHE WASNT FREAKING OUT AND MAKING HER BLEED OUT. SHE THEN WAS TAKEN TO THE ICU FOR A WHOLE WEEK, WHERE SHE SURVIVED . I WAS SO HAPPY. AND THINGS LIKE THAT THAT STUCK WITH ME THAT MADE ME APPRECIATE LIFE SO MUCH MORE AND IT HAD SO MUCH MORE MEANING. BUT THE MOST DEVASTATING WAS WHEN MY BEST FRIEND OF MANY YEARS COMMITED SUICIDE. AND I DIDNT KNOW TILL LATER ON THAT I HAD SAVED HIM 3 TIMES FROM KILLING HIMSELF WITHOUT EVEN KNOWING. SO TO SAY I WISH I COULD HAVE SAVED HIM OR THAT I COULD HAVE SAVED HIM, WELL I DID SAVE HIM JUST BY BEING A FRIEND AND LISTENING. THE FACT IS AND IT WAS HARD TO SWALLOW, YES I DID SAVE HIM BUT I COULDNT HAVE SAVED HIM FOREVER AND THAT HIS DEATH WAS INEVITABLE. AND KNOWING THAT I CANT JUST SAVE EVERYONE AND I CANT FIX EVERYTHING. IT THEN MADE ME TAKE ANOTHER LOOK AT MY LIFE AT THAT POINT AND RE-EVALUATE WEATHER OR NOT I WAS TAKING CARE OF MYSELF AND IF I WAS LOSING WHO IWAS AND WHO I AM. AND LETTING EVERYONE AROUND ME WALK ON ME JUST FOR THEIR ENTERTAINMENT. AND FOUND MYSELF REPEATING MY CHILDHOOD BUT LATER. KIDS CAN BE SO CRUEL. AND THEY ARE CRUEL BECAUSE OF THEIR PARENTS BEING CARELESS AND SHITTY. ONE OF THE THINGS THAT HELPED ME PUT IT BEHIND ME WAS SEEING THE PEOPLE WHO BULLIED ME LATER ON LIEKMID 20'S AND THEY WERE SO GOOD BEFORE ON THEIR HIGH HORSE POKING FUN BUT NOW THEY TURNED OUT TO BECOME HOOKERS, OR DRUG DEALERS OR JUNKIES. NOT ONE OF THEM TURNED OUT WELL IN LIFE. SO ME NOT CONFORMING TO THEIR LIFSTYLE AND CHOICES WAS THE BEST THING I COULD HAVE DONE. YOU GUYS REALLY HIT A SORE SPOT FOR ME. THANK YOU FOR TALKING ABOUT THIS SUBJECT. IT DEFINETLY NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED MORE IN A BIGGER PICTURE OF THINGS. THANK YOU JOE.

I can tell you exactly where “that instinct” comes from, especially with little kids. It’s insecurity and fear. I imagine a lot of the kids have been picked on themselves, like Joe said the “pecking order” They know if they are picking on someone else they will not be the victim themselves. I can’t tell you why the main instigators initiate the bullying, but the reason people go along with it is because they are subconsciously relieved that they are not the target. It makes them feel like part of the crowd and it stops them from being hurt. I was bullied a lot when I was younger, and I bullied other when I was not the victim. That went on for a long time until I started to realize how bad I felt when I saw other people being treated that way, knowing how it felt. I started to understand why I was so quick to jump onboard and I eventually grew up a little and started pushing against it. I can’t watch someone get picked on now as an adult and not step in, I reached that point sometime before high school. That, for me at least, but I assume for a lot of others, is why.

He challenged me to a fight after school and that turned into him and 2 of his buddies trying to jump me. Beat the living shit out of the main douche, hit another and they dragged their friend away crying. I was a cool kid after that. Definitely. In my case I did Mok Gar style kung fu, which because we did a LOT of sparring & people there studied a lot of other styles boiled down to basically kickboxing with a few fancy moves you could rarely pull off. My bully came running up behind me as I and my best friend were walking home through the park. At my school a lot of the bullies would run up behind their victim, jump into the air & push them down so they face-planted really hard, so as I heard these footsteps approaching I whirled round with my arm up in a guard, intending to block his attack. I caught him full in the throat, and he went down like a sack of cr@p, turned a nasty shade of blue-grey & couldn't breathe for a while. We got him sat down on a park bench & luckily he got his breath back. He never bothered me again, & neither did his friends. Fast forward to about 4 years ago, my 11 year old son is starting senior school, and he gets sucker punched by some asshole. The school doesn't do much about it, so he & his sister have been going to Krav Maga ever since. They're not like your typical KM gym that gets the art a bad name by not sparring, though - the coaches came to KM via jiujitsu, kickboxing & sambo, & they believe in sparring (with appropriate safety gear) every session. My two are among the most highly trained kids in Krav in the UK now, & I'm encouraging them to look into muay thai once they've passed their GCSEs.
