Thank you so much for watching Steve, I know that you and others are kings of the lathe and while I do some woodturning, I have passions for so many other areas of woodwork, so thanks for taking the time to watch and non-woodturning video! Stay Creative!

Thank you so much for watching and for taking the time to comment! I am no luthier so making a guitar from scratch is pretty much out of my reach at this time, but also, unfortunately, due to the Coronavirus outbreak and a few other factors I currently have no no workshop of my own. Thank you so much for your high praise and interest, I do hope to get back to it at some point. Stay creative!

So glad you kept up with that wood. You've made a very intriguing piece, like an etching, painting or rare old map that could be studied for hours. I like the dark edges of the wood to the water, the current of water, and the small bodies of it outside the main one. The waterfall works so well. Love the piece and enjoyed waiting for the outcome which was way beyond my expectations.

I'm so glad you watched the whole video, as my intentions were to build toward a large outcome. It simply worked out so well in the end I am so happy with the result, just as you said it looks like a map! Thanks again for watching and for taking the time to comment! Stay Creative!

Dear friend, it is an incredible work of art. One of your finest in my opinion. The olive wood grain and the resin curly colour look fantastic together. We enjoyed it as much as you did for sure. Keep safe and creative 😉

Fantastic piece! Increidble to go from an ugly piece of wood to something quite beautiful.

Thank you so much for watching! Yes! This is indeed the essence of what I love about this craft, if I had not gotten involved that piece would been broken up into several smaller pieces and burned for firewood, but it's simply amazing what diamonds you can find hidden in the rough! Thanks again for watching and commenting, Stay Creative!

Just my opinion here...but a hack to save on resin would be a thinner slab. I love that olive wood...looks like longitude lines o a map.
@FromTheHeartWoodMK Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Yes that for sure would have been an option, but the customer wanted a very thick slab but didn't want to pay for all the resin that was needed to fill it, so I came up with a creative solution and decided to film it. This table is honestly one of the most brilliant items I've ever had the privilege of building! Thanks so much for your interest, stay creative!

Superb job, excellent. I can't get the swirl to stay swirly whilst curing, it just blends back in during the curing time. Watching you, is the trick to leave a small gap, let it cure, and then just pour the last layer on top and the swirl should remain,..????
@FromTheHeartWoodMK4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! I poured in several layers to keep the the epoxy from getting too hot and cracking. The swirls are accomplishing by continually agitating the resin as it begins to cure until it becomes tacky. Once its tacky the swirls won't melt away so easily. So basically I stood there for almost an hour constantly stirring the final layer of resin till it began to cure. I use a resin that cures faster based on quantity in a square area, so thin pours like this take 24 hours to fully harden but about an hour to begin to thicken up. I hope this answered your question. Thanks again for watching and taking the time to comment. Stay Creative!

@@FromTheHeartWoodMK Thank you for the answer. I am using Luci Clear resin and it takes 3 to 4 days to cure. I was still agitating the resin after 9 hours then I went to bed. Next day it was sticky and thickish but I didnt want to disturb it.
@FromTheHeartWoodMK4 жыл бұрын
@@paulspencer4961 I find when doing clear casts that resin with a slower drying time is preferred, but when working with Mica powders I much prefer a fast setting resin since I am thus able to get the desired effect through constant stirring.
@paulspencer49614 жыл бұрын
@@FromTheHeartWoodMK My pours are about 15mm thick. I like the Luci Clear, I wonder how it would go if I used the Luci Clear for say the first 13mm, let it set for 2 days then did the top 2mm with West System resin, its a fast curing resin, but only suited for thin pours, maybe the mica powder would keep the swirl how I want it,...........hmmm, might try that.

Looks great my friend! Can you tell me how you treated the sides of the olive wood? Im trying to make one myself and thinking of topping it with polyurethane for water resistance, but the sides are so uneven you cant really sand them
@FromTheHeartWoodMK2 жыл бұрын
First, thanks for watching! Secondly, after the resin pour was finished and polished I treated the whole table with about 4-5 coats of Danish oil. I find that I prefer the natural look and feel of the wood in contrast to the glass like feel of the resin, plus the oil has absolutley zero effect of the polish of the resin and is thus very easy to wipe off with no smudging or anything. I think polyurethane would work, but you'd have to be careful to not get it on the resin as it might be difficult to keep the finish from forming some kind of coat on top of the resin which might not be what you are looking for and could cause the resin to lose it's natural luster. In any case, thanks again for watching! Stay Creative!

Truly magnificent work!! Love the lake effect! Where did you get the olive wood if you don’t mind me asking?! My husband brought back pieces to America from Greece, and he was wondering where he could find it in the states. He has made one resin table with olive wood as well. Well done!!👏👏👏
@FromTheHeartWoodMK3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so very much for watching and taking the time to comment! I live and work in Greece and here olive wood is burned for firewood and so I can sometimes find large chunks of olive wood like that. Finding quality olive wood in the states is tough, but I like to keep a large stock of quality olive wood cuts on hand. Thanks again for the high compliment, stay creative!
