How bout tell folks to crown all the boards the same direction so that after they put it up there roof doesn’t look like a roller coaster going across the top of it. That’s the 1st step before you mark any wood and that step is first before walls floor joists and any major part of your home.

Very, very clear, I was able to follow every step with my speed square and a demo piece of wood. I am not building a coop or chicken mansion, but a free-standing awning at my front and back door. this has been the most simple version of a single angle roof I have been able to find. Thanks so much.

Thank you for posting this!! I am building a similar style run to the end of our coop and using this lean to style rafter. Your demo was better than the dozen odd prior ones I watched to get the moxie up to do this project. Like you, my daughters were "helping" oversee quality control. Going to cut these tomorrow and will definitely do a practice piece before cutting into my 2x6s.

I just stumbled upon your video, and glad I did. The way you explain each step in simple terms is outstanding, especially for those like myself with limited building experience. This video would have been a game changer for me when building my 10 x 24 firewood lean-to shed last summer. The idea of doing birds mouth cuts intimidated me, so I used hurricane ties instead. The way you explained it and the detailed use of the speed square (never knew how to use one) was excellent and I would have given it a go. I just kept shaking my head while watching this and kept thinking, I would have done a few things differently with my shed (like adding the purlins to accommodate a longer eave) cause you explained its so well. I have only found a few channel to subscribe to, and you have now been added to that list! Thanks, and looking forward to checking out your other videos.

I am honored to be on your sub list! don't beat your self up I defiantly went over board on this build (always do). Plus I knew I was going to move it around with the tractor so it needed to be strong. for a wood shed straps will work just fine.

I am converting a shed to a hen house & adding an outside run. I loved the way you measured out a template, that's kinda how I do things too Making these cuts were so intimidating; so I was looking into pitch connectors (easy way out), but you just saved me a good bit of money. You were so detailed in how to do this, I think I can handle it now. Thank you so much for sharing this. ❤

You do an excellent job explaining things , I enjoy watching others work now after having worked in construction many years ! A little trick an old time carpenter showed me is to keep a heavy old time rasp handy! I did a lot of birds mouth cuts and kerfs for ledgers . Knock the wood out with your hammer and then hit the birds mouth or notch cut with rough side of rasp and flip it over and smooth side rasp the shoulder to heel cut . Takes the little scrap out of the corner and levels things up nice on notches . The rasp will do in seconds what you did with wood chisel ! Try it ,you'll like it !

@toddconrad1426
@toddconrad1426 2 жыл бұрын
@@troyna77 the ten degrees is for the 2/12 pitch and it is also for a metal roof so don’t use it for a shingled roof. Buy a speed square and use the common section and the pitch you use just look at the degrees below it and it’ll tell you the matching degrees when you’re lined up on your common pitch at same time so you’ll know how to set up skill or table or chop saws pitch.
