I just bought this because Joe told me cold steel bowies were the dog's bejewels and seeing him shoot it with the steyr aug is like watching a boy become a man before your eyes. Once again JOE X, you've helped me make up my mind about what to buy. I was thinking, even with all the bullet holes, the blade could be straitened, and with a little file work,it could be used again. And a grip/handle could be made out of wood scraps and Duct tape. See you at the next vid.💥🤟🤟🤟🤟💥

Another classic review. I didn't see one German comment and read them all, so maybe I'll stop posting a German translation. I'm on the fence about getting this one. It's currently $37.14 on Amazon. Seems a bit high given what I've paid for other Cold Steel machetes. But then, those have gone up in price too. Loved the funny responses to the priss (that stormed off from your "childish idiocy." Great that you pinned it. You've got a serious group of loyal fans!

@@joex for the money, it's a better blade. I cut through a 10" diameter hardwood log with mine. Not even a roll on the blade edge. I oiled it up, and it looks brand new. I just have to figure out a way to get some grip on those polypropylene handles. You use knife gloves, but most people don't take them camping. I tried this heat shrink grip I found on Amazon. After getting about 1/4 through that hardwood log, the heat shrink grip was already loose, and coming off.

@@joex thanks for finally reviewing this machete knife. It's crazy how freaking tough it is. I've always been a fan of Cold Steel's South African machetes. They seem to get the heat treat right on that 1055 carbon steel, and the sheaths are better than typical machete sheaths.

Holy shit. That's one tough bowie. Might be the knife I've been looking for. I had been leaning towards lower and lower carbon for my survival knives, and suspected 1050 might be the ticket. Wondering if there is a stainless equivalent. Maybe 420HC. Or 4034. Ironically, the cheaper steels are tougher than the expensive stuff. They just don't hold an edge as well. But a broken razor-blade isnt worth much, lol. I think this would make fantastic sword steel. Thanks for the great vid. EDIT: I bought this knife, and wow it's a good life, and it has its purposes I wouldn't classify it as a buoy. It's definitely more machete quality, although although the blade thickness might be a 30-second inch or half a millimeter thicker. Edge grind is incredibly coarse. So much so, that the edge had filings hanging off it thst made it seem like it was a serrated edge. Lol. And the handle was very slick.. All that said. I wrapped the handle, and sharpened it, and it will go into the tool stable and we'll be good for climbing saplings and heavier machete work. A great, cheap beater blade. But a heavy bladed bowie, it ain't. 😁

Sweet! Had bo idea they were this tough. I had a katana machete from cs, but couldn't get it sharp to save my life. And it rusts just sitting in my closet. I wish it was more rust resistant and was able to sharpen it. Also the handle texture chafed my hands badly even through gloves. This is an amazing and ironic test compared with my experience. I found the Schrade Priscilla machete to be a winner. I chopped down a few small tough trees with it, hit rocks and everything, but no damage at all. 65mn steel

The tips of the CS Bowie machete and Black Bear Bowie machete are very thin. Really thin. Hence the quick bending. You have to actually put a belt sander on it before using it, to make it stronger. Get rid of the extreme fine tip. Fine tip s good for fighting/stabbing. But too fine makes it vulnerable. I hated the handle on the Black Bear Bowie machete and Smatchet machete. Same handles. Slick, when stabbing in hammer grip, the hand slides onto the guard (regular Bowie machete is better). Romans had those ridges on their Gladius handles ,and also in the middle of the Pugio handle , a thicker part. On traditional Kukri's also a thicker part, ridge, in the middle of the handle. No sliding. But not very comfortable. I prefer the TPE layered handles of modern times.

Hello Joe X, the knife Destroyer! From what I see these Cold Steel hybrid Machete Swords are virtually indestructible. Where the regular CS Bowie knifes broke into several pieces this and this and the other CS hybrid Machete Knife Swords do not break! So, I am thinking of a emergency survival last ditch big knife for Bear, Wild Boars, Mountain Lion, Leppard etc, attacks this CS Black Bear Bowie Machete or other CS hybrid Machete Swords might be the best choice of an effective bladed poihted instrument for emergencies from dangerous animal attacks. I want to ask you based your extensive experiences in testing various cuttlery, do you feel this Cold Steel Black Bear Bowie Machete is it just as good or better than an actual Bowie or another long knifes? As to be able to effectively thrust into and penetrate deep into thick Bear Fur,Fat,Flesh? I also think the CS Barong Machete is an excellent overall option. What says JoeX? Danke!

@MrHrKaidoOjamaaVKJV 10 ай бұрын
@JuaneDosesII-wj6dd Agreed. However, while not recommended, a Knife, Machete, or Hatchet, and possibly a Spear, is often the only survival tool that people can possess and carry in certain countries in wilderness places. While there have been situations with bad unfortunate outcomes, where people had unsuccessfully tried to use knives against Black Bears,Grizzley and Brown Bears attacks. There are also several documented cases where where It has been proven that well-made knives including folding pocket knives can be effectively, successfully used in emergency self defense, life threatening situations with Black Bears and even with the fierce Grizzley& Brown Bears that have attacked people and the victims defend their valuable lives, killing the Bears.

Well Mr JoeX that wad me who stopped by that you called a fanboy and shooed away, unfortunately for you I was there to give you a whole pile of knives for you to test including a ZDP-189 ROCKSTEAD that is over $2k a Svord vontempsky bowie, a Medford Bonfire with 7.5mm thich of 3V just brought some of my knives that i figured you either could not break or would have a really hard time trying! Hey maybe better luck next time if someone stops by ehhh but for now I will just keep them i guess 🤷‍♂️ (clearly i am joking i live nowhere near you)
