When I attempted to quit drugs n alcohol cold turkey, I got so damn anxious I couldn’t think of anything else besides wanting a drink. I decided to just take a picture of myself and make a sketch of it to occupy my mind. I’d never really tried to draw anything before, only doodling on classwork n whatnot. I actually felt comfortable for a change, a sense of peace that I didn’t think I could ever have. I just focused on drawing and it actually turned out really well. I’m a silly bastard so I purposely made a dumb face but I was genuinely surprised with what I ended up with. I really didn’t think I could draw as well as I had with that picture. Something about seeing the effects of your art in the physical world has so much more of an impact than seeing it digitally. Even with writing, I find it to be much more authentic to handwrite with a pencil and paper than to type. Even though I type a whole lot faster than I could ever write with a pencil… and my hand doesn’t fuckin hurt. Reading what I wrote on paper is also much more gratifying than reading it off of a screen. I get to see the slight differences in each letter from my shitty handwriting, making it actually feel like my own work. Or how about the satisfaction of slowly turning each page rather than scrolling with a mouse wheel? And at the end of the day, if I don’t like what I wrote, I can crumble up the paper or set it on fire… can’t do that with a screen, can you? Point is, draw a fuckin picture. Thanks for reading, peace.

I am a high school student (a lot of stressful work, yes), and I write, particularly about my contemplations and reflections about everything I want to write, while watching you, Mr. Joey, roast, criticize, and put these kinds of people in their place. As you have said, there is indeed a feeling of peace and contentment as you create and conceive something on paper, using a pencil or pen, by yourself, without the needless aid of technology. Your content sometimes goes off the rails (it can get kind of crazy), but it is content that I believe aims to be non-cconformist and normalize sanity.

This is why you're different then anyone else in this business, Joey. You take the time to call out the bad in society but unlike most people you take the time to make sure to encourage good. Like its not just "this is bad, look at this bad in society, this is horrible". Thats all fine and dandy but no one takes the time to encourage people to do good. Like "hey instead of participating in the rotting downfall of society, heres some alternative things you can do that are good and healthy". The physical mail thing you started is a severely underrated and overlooked thing that is really commendable in my opinion. It may seem small to most, but in reality its that type of thing that we need in society. Thank you Joey and keep doing you. We dont have enough people like you in the world.

I didn’t even know the “good girl” guy existed until this 😂 honestly so glad I saw it here first.. that’s so disturbing. Edit: I’m really glad you spoke on the AI stuff. I find it to be extremely wrong that they’re using AI to create art to win awards and all this other crap. Its an insult to people that make actual art from hand and from genuine craftsmanship.

At my elementary school, we would all make the annual trek to Nelson-Atkins Art Museum and our gathering spot was in the main hall under the statue of two naked people. Truly. It was art but all of us kids either looked away mortified or giggled until the museum lady shushed us sternly.

I'm 61 with 4 kids who are attorneys, they were pissed because I would send JoeyB’s videos to my retired colleagues, peers, friends, etc. I sent them because they are funny as hell, now all for of my uptight lawer kids are sending JoeyB’s material, because all 4 think his stuff is the funniest stuff in KZbin. I do like the fella he's roasting because he has a good attitude, he didn't get pissed, and he gave us all some good advice. I'm an old “saddle tramp”, is what my X-wife of 20 years used to call me, before she ran off with a ER resident Dr, who was 16 years younger than both of us😂😂😂😂😂

I can totally relate.. I am a songwriter been at it for years and my happiness is so tied to this ability to express through words and notes. I feel like so many people have lost this essential piece of being human, that is to somehow express your unique ephemeral purpose through whatever means comes to you. Comes through you rather, when you just set aside that space as you stated with no distraction, to open up that creative channel.
