This man was absolutely legendary ! Beside all he was the one at Albanian civil war in 1997 helping kids in need in orphanages with food and blankets, and knowing how it was back then I’ll tell ye for sure not many people would take a risk at same circumstances for same purpose ! And he did that in Bosnia and Romania till he died physically! I thank you and salute you the legend ! I hope one day I’ll be able to shake your hand in the other side . Joey “Phoenix “ Dunlop

Yeah driving that van all that way to help supply food and aid to kids in orphanages through many dangers. And nobody told him to do it. He was an absolute catalyst.

Met him in a field in Killalane races when i was 15,couldnt believ my eyes,walking on his own havn a smoke, we just said hi Joey he smiled and quietly said hi lads, there should be more documentries about him or a Senna style film made about him,RIP Yer Man❤
@MrMiD.Life.Crisis3 жыл бұрын
That documentary would be a dayumn good idea - i just hope that someone does it and they do the man justice/the whole family justice.
@ramoncf72 жыл бұрын
Completely agree, like Senna he was the best at the job but also had a big heart, he deserves a documentary/film so more people get to know such a fantastic human being.
@GT380man Жыл бұрын
They’d have to use whatever film there is because nobody should be cast to play Joey. In all seriousness, the sound quality plus that Joey was quietly spoken, plus his brogue is tricky for many ears, that would be a consideration. I can hardly understand Michael Dunlop, either. I doubt Joey’s TT record will be challenged simply because nobody is likely to want or be able to be competitive for the required time. John McGuiness’s chance was destroyed by COVID, but maybe it was fated to be like that. I’m a huge fan of JMcG, but his time is now gone. Peter Hickman could gather a fair few, but it’s a huge record, 26 wins.

Its hard to imagine in todays consumer age that William Joseph Dunlop born in our small parish of Armoy could have created such a legacy of success and achievements and still remain the decent humble man he was born to be. Joey would have continued racing wether he was famous or not he loved it, it was part of him and I will never forget the sense of pride he gave us in North Antrim its a poorer world without Joey.

It looks sooo old fashioned. Huge crowds. I used to visit my sister there around that time, though I wasn’t aware of the just how important Scarborough was then. Didn’t get much publicity, still doesn’t. Probably protects it to an extent.

Ok watching this now at 7:27 in Joey gets the FIM Gold medal quickly the camera pans to the right two men and a boy are clapping. the boy looks a lot like a young John McGuinness??
@GT380man Жыл бұрын
He’s about the right age. John was born 1972 I think and that’s a Honda CBX1000 or CB900, c1980-82, so he could be 10 or 12. Whether it’s him, I’ve no idea. Do we know where the medal ceremony was? IOM TT? A lot of the experienced racers visited early in their lives, long before they dreamed of racing there. John was from oop north so it wouldn’t have been so far, Lancashire lad I think.
