The same as before, there is no decline in light output. This is why it is important to mask off the reflector. By doing so you ensure that the light output is not compromised.

If you feel sanding I'm sure it wouldn't hurt. The paint seemed to adhere fine for me without it. But remember the paint will be protected by the lens so there is no direct exposure to the weather, and lower likelihood of peeling.
@diydubs11 жыл бұрын
I did not scrape out my old silicone but you certainly could if you intend to replace it with new silicone. As long as there is a good seal between the lens and the housing!
@eliteemerz11 жыл бұрын
No prep work needed (sanding?). I feel like the paint would peel since it's got nothing but smooth plastic to stick to
@diydubs11 жыл бұрын
@TheHonestTheist haha you had to smash the lens to take it off?? Did you heat up the glue in an oven or with a heat gun?
@benjokazooie11 жыл бұрын
very informative, should the door on oven be closed for the min to min and a half. looks very symmilar to the golf mk4 anniversary, thats what i have and vw want an extortionate ammount of money to replace them, this is a pretty cheap option in comparison. love it!

Looking forward on doing this! Just one question! Can I use plastidip instead of spraypaint ? Annually I do revision on my car and I'm afraid that black headlights would make me fail the revision. Revision guys would say that it's not accepted. Spain has a lot of laws on car customization. Removing plastidip is much easier than buying and putting stock headlights back! Thanks! Hopefully I'll get an answer soon!

+spraypaintandmarkers Hi there! I don't foresee any issues with using plastidip instead of spraypaint. That should work just fine!

@Egidijus Kalesinskas Hey, it was just a song I got off freeplaymusic.com I can't remember the exact name of the track... but it wasn't anything special. Check out the site you can search by genre, instrument, and even feeling/mood.

apparently a different, tougher glue in europe, be warned! Have to smash and replace....

hey man great video what exactly did you use for the sealant should it be specific
@diydubs7 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks, you actually may be able to reuse the original sealant if there is enough left over. If not, you can try Morimoto RetroRubber Butyl Glue. This is an OEM-style sealant designed specifically for use in headlights: www.theretrofitsource.com/accessories/build-materials/morimoto-retrorubber-butyl-glue.html Alternatively, you can try OCI BUTYL GLUE, for those who don't like the harder, more OEM-like consistency of the RetroRubber and prefer the softer OCI: www.theretrofitsource.com/accessories/build-materials/oci-butyl-glue.html And here's a video on how to apply it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mqapiYyIqcShepI Hope this helps!

also...plastic covers? the lens on mine are glass...
@McCheeseKid8 жыл бұрын
Is there a specific reason why you used Enamel? I always wondered - and never found an understandable answer on Google, what the difference between regular spray paint, enamel, and lacquer are... do you know?
@diydubs8 жыл бұрын
Hi +McCheeseKid According to doityourself.com, it appears lacquer paint is outdated, expensive, and has given way to enamel: www.doityourself.com/stry/enamel-paint-vs-lacquer-paint

did ur lights fog up after u put them back on? or was it just a bad photo
@diydubs8 жыл бұрын
The photo at 4:04? If so, that's simply a bad/scratched/worn out lens cover. It needs restoration. There was no fogging caused by the Joey mod.
@stickhrk8 жыл бұрын
Kyle Steinle ah thats cool, was worried about fogging the lights up. Thanks for the reply :)

How is the lights after this mod? Is the light beam good?
@diydubs10 жыл бұрын
The light beam is not affected. Only the bezel is to be painted, not the reflector.
