God I remember Reddit 50/50, I think the most haunting thing wasn't the picture being shown, it was the pure silence that followed, making you realize what you have done.

I remember watching a documentary about people who moderate Facebook in Philippines Manila and even though Facebook being less of a "brutal" platform, they still had to filter a lot of shit that caused many suicidal deaths among their work environment. These people who do these types of jobs are truly the best heroes. I cannot imagine what easily accesable part of the Internet would be like without them. Pure gore and anarchy

I knew i didn't care for the 50-50 subreddit, as soon as I heard about it but I was in person with friends and it just happened anyways... I guess they "acknowledged" my disinterest in the subreddit. it didn't phase them much however, so they went on another subreddit, /r/WatchPeopleDie ...at first a bunch of the videos, while technically dark, they were stilll very jovial and ultimately felt impersonal. The people that died were basically a few pixels on the screen and only existed for perhaps a second, there wasn't any gore or anything like that most of the time, and sometimes you second guessed if they actually died or not. eventually they clicked into a video of someone filming their suicide in their own room. this was night and day difference in tone to every other video and something i'll probably never forget. After that video friend stopped entirely. He said seeing the rigor mortis take effect reminded him of how he found his mom's body a year before.

The worst thing I saw was on twitter as well, it was photos of a missing girl's body discovered on a beach...and what freaked me out the most was that there was a hashtag for her like #Justicefor_______ and instead of putting photos of her happy, alive and smiling, a lot of people were tagging that beach photo, like what the heck?!?

I fucking hate myself for my morbid curiosity. I watched a live leak video which is one of the worst things I ever saw in my life. A teenage boy was on a video Skype call with his buddies, then he started setting up a blue tarp on the headboard of his bed. He pulled out a shotgun from underneath his bed and blew his brains out in front of the tarp. Then his mom rushed into his bedroom and started screaming and wailing in agony. Why do I do this to myself...

I recommend you get yourself checked out if your curiosity keeps making you see shit like that. However I definitely felt like it was harder and harder for me to interact with people and I didn't know why. The internet has so much shit that a lot of times I have to mentally restrain myself from googling stuff up because I know that if I do I'd be scarred for life. An example of this is yesterday when I watched rtgame play dark souls with a controller in the shape of a baby morphed with a blender. The morbid curiosity Sydney has with true crime is the same morbid curiosity I have with 9/11. 9/11 in the history books sounds like a movie plot, yet it really happened, so there's this tragic awe that you get from watching 9/11 footage every September. Especially after watching all the many videos of the Twin Towers pre-9/11. That compounded with the fact that I was only a month when 9/11 happened, so I feel a sense of nostalgia for two American icons that I never had the privilege of witnessing in real life.
