There's every reason for it, it's to stop piracy. They are tied into the hardware to encrypt the data.

That’s nonsense. It can be encrypted without being hardware locked to a particular motherboard. It’s guaranteeing that these devices will have a built in expiration date as the part that will fail (the memory) is not replaceable.

@@rrwholloway I'm sorry but that's just not right. How do yiu think encryption works? If something is encrypted it needs to be decrypted. You can't put the decryption key on the drive itself as that would defeat the purpose. The decryption key is therefore based on the hardware. And you need to encrypt the data, otherwise it can be viewed as normal data. I don't disagree that the drive should be replaceable with a method of generating that partition somehow. I really don't understand why the Xbox doesn't just see a new SSD and create a new partition. That seems like a bit of an as oversight.

On the second console try reinstalling the OS from scratch. Teredo problems are usually driver related on Windows machines, maybe a complete reinstall can solve it. Maybe check the SSD health on the 2nd console, as well placed bad sectors can ruin a program (in this case a driver) without breaking anything else. Maybe it's not a software issue but some IO chip overheating with time, but it should be worth a try

Yes it is possible, i did this once. Since the data is on the nand thats all you need. Just transplant it to the known working board.

I wonder if it's possible to take the rom chip off of the SSD and put it onto another working SSD. Since it wasn't recognized in windows I am guessing the data is there but the controller chip has failed or one of the passive components.

SSDs are encrypted in Most cases and the Keys are in the Controller chip. Even If there is No encryption, the new Controller will Not know where the Data is, it is stored randomly.

You should have removed the nand on the ssd and put it on the known working ssd. just needs a reball and your console is saved. Please try this before selling. I have done this before and it worked.

Hey Joey. I work on PCs and repair them as a job. We use a program called R-Studio to recover data. Sometimes that tool works for getting data off a disk that windows doesn’t populate. It’s worth a try

Upnp is used to Open Ports on your Router, if the Router Upnp is disabled you will receive such a error but it wont cause Server based games to not Work, the issue where Upnp will Play a role is when your Device is the server behind your Router. then Upnp will open the correct Ports for the Other Players to Connect to your Console.

Toredo IP address is an IPv4 to IPV6 conversion basically. Gives a way for IPV4 addresses to be translated to ipv6, which are used on the xbox network.

You might want to try booting from a flash drive that has a linux distro that has testdisk installed on it and trying your luck with that. That software can recover/repair messed up partitions and disk images. If you try this, make sure to use the dd command (a seprate linux program) to create a full drive clone image and attempt to repair the image instead of the data on the original drive. This way you can't mess up the data on the drive.

About the first xbox, did you try the other SSD in the xbox after the attempted clone? I don't know if the 25% LED only starts to light up when the clone process is at 25%, when you're lucky the device was able to transfer the 1GB partition and failed then later at the broken partition. With that it should be enough to start the xbox. And about the second xbox, it looks to me like there is a broken solder joint to an IC, since the problem only seems to appear when the console is used for some time, so i think the heat causes a solder joint to "disconnect". Maybe a reflow of the southbridge is worth a try?

To remove the little BGA with epoxy, you’ll have to use a thin blade to cut underneath the chip and lift it

I would have tried removing the NAND and reading it directly. They have BGA sockets, but you can also do it dead bug style, i.e., flip it over and solder wires to the pads.

You could try using Linux for drive reading. It tends to be a bit more flexible with showing you the little info it can with a bad drive.

the teredo and the upnp problems you mentioned happens when windows has problems with drivers, since this is not windows, is xbox, the southbridge being a problem could be a perfect explanation, or could be just a problem with the firmware and os itself seeing how it died the other ssd

Upnp does kind of port forwarding for you without manually allowing the ports

I think the network issue is due to heat, as the console is cold or the south bridge is cold it works fine, but after working for a bit it heats and stops working, why don't you try putting a heatsink on the south bridge and see if the fault regularity decreases?

Intermittent issues usually means software or I/O (southbridge) would recommend trying a new ssd first.

I have gone up a notch, crazy win of a Battlefield limited edition 1Tb Xbox One S no power for £2... yep 2 Alan Whickers on a 99p start auction... was looking today for spare shell parts as parts of the bottom panel and rear panel badly damaged and found a digital one for £15 free postage O.o Kinda bit of a dilemma with the digital one is that it works just no picture but the Battlefield one is a disc version so can't just chop over the mobo from the digital without having to convert it to a disc edition lol I do need a source of spares anyway as promised to refurbish eldest daughter's S, its getting tired and wheezy as it was a very early S so its done some mileage. As for my own dilemma, I needs a disc so I can play my Rare Replay disc, otherwise I wouldn't bother so much, also found my large box of Xbox 360 games meaning I now have GTA 5 on da One and a few other bits and bobs, been running through Code Veronica today as haven't played that in years and still the best imho. Yesterday I was cranking up the scores on SSX on my PS3 :D Waiting on a HDMI mod kit for my Mega Drive II, my 51 inch flatscreen does not do well RF and it lacks component sockets, got an Everdrive with every 8 and 16 bit games on it that can run with MD's controller.

So based on what I've seen in the past there is the chip that can help recover data from an SSD, the caveat with it is that you need to match the controller chip of the broken one with a controller chip of a working one. This, of course would only be recommended for data recovery because it may not be a viable repair replacing Controllers.

Where is data about the ssd stored? In some chip? Bios maybe? Or some other chip? Is it possible to clone the bios from donor and take donor's ssd? Or something in that path...like taking both chip and ssd from donor? I am not familiar with Xbox and I am just asking is something possible, like don't be limited just to ssd maybe a chip is in with the ssd...either just the data from the chip or the whole physical chip transfer 🤷‍♂️ or maybe it's bios and some chip and ssd 🤷‍♂️ If it's bios, it shouldn't be so hard and expensive (just a guess), if it's some other chip - programming is harder (guessing again)... Anyways, I'll say again, I don't know anything about Xbox
