Holy moly, i never thought splitting the bass has such a great impact. Even a band notch from 200 to 800hz already worked wonders

Great tips Miami! I enjoy using the JST Maximizer as my final plugin on the bass chain for that last 10% and leveler. A small touch of sauce or exciter too if needed. ✨

Yes, we definitely want the vocal one. I need it. I’m about to do a bunch of vocal covers to get my KZbin channel started and record my record I’m working on. Help a dude out lol 🙏🏻

One of these on indie rock or punk would be great. I struggle to get the gritty punchy bass using the split method.

Do you use distortion? A guitar boost like a tube screamer usually sounds great
@samsonlovesyou

@Durkhead I do, although haven't tried a screamer on bass. I've been splitting the signal, one DI going to an amp, sometimes with Darkglass first, or Neutron's Exciter module (for lighter saturation). But what I'm struggling with most is where to split the DI, how much of the mids to cut, and setting the relative volume balance between the amp and DI, both against each other and in the mix.

for those genres I like to do a split around 150/200 for both tracks and keep the low mid information. Sansamp psa plugin on the low band with cleaner and more scooped settings and fairly driven and punchy on the high band

@@samsonlovesyou on the di i cut all the way down to 100hz then i boost at about 80hz and compress the hell out of it then i have a clean high end that i run through a bass amp plugin with a guitar ir and then another di through a guitar boost plugin with the same ir

Best way to get a good bass tone is to put on new strings, have the bass professionally set up so it plays perfectly, and play it well. I used to play with steel bass strings, a bad setup, and I'd pick really hard. It sounded okay, but I'm getting better, clankier results now with lighter gauge nickel strings, a good setup, and a really thin pick that I don't have to hit very hard with. My bass tones are much better now. My Squier Jazz bass sounds HUGE.

Whoa! I just switched to lighter strings too after reading Cliff Burton used a lighter gauge to achieve his wild bends. It makes a world of difference I can’t believe it after using heavier strings for years.I also use a Dunlop heavy pick and I noticed too I can back off the attack and concentrate more on rhythm. Also have a jazz bass!

For recording an actual bass, would I simply just copy & paste 2 tracks? OR do I need to have 2 separate performances? Thank you for this video

Feels like it's been a while. Cool video Will try the 3 way split soon.. One trick to note... Make sure your active pickup batteries aren't flat 😏🙄

@@joeymusic I think you made a great point at the end of the video. For me, one of the most important elements to get right from the beginning when using the split bass technique is setting the crossover points correctly. Every track is different, and factors like the type of bass, the age of the strings, and the relationship between the fundamental and my EQ adjustments make me very mindful of my decisions. To be honest, the DI tone I start with really dictates what my moves will be. Great video, Miami. I really enjoy your content a lot. I would love to hear your thoughts on those Kali speakers compared to your Genelecs!

Almost all your Gremlin frequencies lay between those two frequencies now I don't know about cutting them all out but that's the range in the zone you tend to play in to get crap out of your sound
