As someone who’s in the coast guard I wish we could get pirates, in Alaska patroling the Bering sea we mostly do law enforcement in the fishing industry and do SAR missions saving people who usual get hurt in tougher weather, I know a couple buddies stationed in Florida where they deal with drug smuggling and migrants, and another friend in the Great Lakes area providing aids to navigation by maintaining buoys and other markers for boat traffic, pirates from I’ve heard are mostly in Bahrain which is where I plan on being stationed next after this three year tour in Alaska! @@treightonbatty6494 the training can be a lot to handle at first but just know everyone there knows what you go thru isn’t normal/real life and they make you act like a robot on purpose. time objectives are a HUGE thing to help your company get smoked less. when you arrive at bootcamp they obviously take all ur stuff and all that but you’ll be in temporary housing for a couple days until the friday you’re there. you get to cape may Tues and you basically get temporary company commanders that adjusts you for a couple days before you meet your real CC’s Friday morning they basically act like normal CC’s except they don’t make you do anything physical for the first couple days but will scream all the time still (getting you ready), wake you up normally and treat you like a normal recruit. they let off the gas and take off the facade though when you’re about to leave sexton hall (the temporary housing week 1’s go to for a couple days before starting officially). all of this stuff I didn’t expect and looking back on it would’ve been nice to know prior. also be prepared to be threatened of reversion (getting sent back a week in training) frequently. uscg bootcamp is one of the toughest military bootcamps there is because of the mental battles they put you through. you can get through it though. be ready to be a nonrate for a little while after bootcamp unless you’re desired rate is like a BM or something. almost everyone goes to a cutter after bootcamp. it’s going to suck before it gets better though. you really get so absorbed into the whole structure/routine they have there and it helps you stay involved all the time. the USCG will always have my respect and gratitude. Correction. We claim our birthday as that of the Revenue Cutter Service, which dates back to August 4th, 1790. The RCS, Life Saving Service, the Light House Service, and others all combined to create the Coast Guard in 1915. You are, however, correct that we've been involved in every major armed conflict since our birth, in 1790. Revenue cutters fought in the War of 1812, the Harriet Lane fired the first naval shots of the Civil War, and also fought on both sides after being captured. There's a ton of Coast Guard history that extends beyond January 28th, 1915.

Everybody can say what they like about the Coast Guard, but there’s a reason Marines generally have a grounded respect for them. Medal of Honor recipient Douglas Munro, 1st Class Petty Officer, USCG, gave his life in the efforts he lead to save an entire battalion of marines trapped by Japanese forces at the battle of Point Cruz, Guadalcanal, WWII. This point in history shaped a special fondness between the two branches as where the Navy failed the Marines that day, the Coast Guard rose to the occasion, and it was remembered for many decades after, to which involved many occasions where Navy Sailors picked fights with Coasties for being “puddle pirates”, and the nearby Marines would take the side of the Coasties every time.

We also have special ops like other branches that do much more in depth with maritime law and anti terrorism. Aside from the law aspect, we safeguard life and property. This includes responding to vessels in danger, breaking ice for safe travel, and maintains bougies throughout US waters. Saved the best for last, we save lives! I've been a coastie for 2 years and most people laugh at me when I say I'm in the coast guard. However most soldiers think we're badass. The marines especially, the Marines have my respect and they respect us coasties

Technically the coast guard falls under the naval branch during times of war. Otherwise it falls under the department of homeland security

It was the United States Coast Guard that saved Chesty Puller and his very shot up Marines. Chesty had the greatest respect for Coasties. Semper Paratus!!

The Coast Guard is not a Military outfit. They are attached to Home Land Security. In times of war, they are attached to the US Navy. They were formerly assigned to the Department of Transportation. Much respect to the Guard, as they see significant TRAUMA, more or less, on a daily bases. They do Search and Rescue, as well as Search and Recovery of dead bodies...from the seas around the US. Bodies that have often been floating for days, chewed on by fish and so on. I'm sure you will agree, getting shot at is scary stuff, but so are recovering bodies. Having worked w Veterans from All service branches and the Guard, Trauma is Trauma. Once it gets inside you, it Never leaves. Blessings upon ALL Vets, regardless of service branch. In the Holy name of Jesus the Christ. Amen.

Marines will always respect the Coast Guard because in world war 2 they positioned their boats between the marines and enemy fire effectively sacrificing themselves in order to save the marines that were behind them. That act of heroism was never forgotten and that’s way the marines will always respect them as see them as fellow soldiers
