Yeah I never bought into the disease concept of addiction. To me as I grew older it seems to me that any one addicted to anything is having a problem with not feeling connected to the world around them and a purpose for living.

I relate with your dope story. I hated that I used herion, when I smoked weed it made it really feel like such a nasty drug habit. I used for 10+ years, and have been clean for about 10 years now. To ua3 again would be going backwards. Congrats on your sobriety! Like 49 of my friends didn't make it out and are dead, I turned 40 this year. Keep up the good work!

You’re the man Joey. I’ve been watching you since the original live in your CRV vids. I was addicted to heroin for years and years. I spent time on the street as well. Not years but one winter in upstate NY was enough to get the picture I think.. I got off subs the same way as you. One size doesn't fit all. What worked for you may not work for me. 70 years ago the AMA classified alcoholism and addiction as diseases . They're progressive, treatable and fatal if untreated. For insurance purposes I suppose. I've struggled with opiate addiction my whole life. 50 plus years. For the last 20 years I've worked in the field. When someone comes in all sucked up it looks like a disease. Once they've kicked, gained weight etc. it looks like they're recovering from a disease. I've always had a problem with the disease model of addiction. I'm all about harm reduction. Whatever you want to call it, however you want to treat it.if it works for you great, right? Whatever it takes bro. BTW I'm also half Italian and half Irish got hair down to my waist and a moustache. I could be your older brother or something. Been watching since the early days. love what you do. Thank you.

Addiction and dependence are two different things. Is dependence a disease? I would say maybe, because you can't get off Benzos or extreme alcohol dependence without medical help. Addiction is all about will power. Some have a lot, and some don't.

I’m in AA and it saved my life. At first the thought of it being a disease and being powerless over alcahol seemed wrong to me at first also but the whole point of that is realizing that a higher power is the only thing that can remove this obsession from you, and giving all control over to God instead of trying to control things yourself

Glad I watched this and kept my own opinion from actually hearing what you said. It's a disease in the sense that anxiety and depression are a "disease" but they're normal reactions to an abnormal world, THAT makes sense! I think there's a lot too it, way too many people can't even comprehend the difference between between mental and physical dependency. I feel like the majority of opioid addicts have more of a problem with the physical aspect than the mental ones, physical is relatively easy to beat with things like sub, tapering, etc but it's when people just can't deal with the world sober that their mental addiction comes into play. I've known addicts that got on sub and everything was fine then I've known others who got on it so they just started drinking, eating benzos and taking whatever else they could. To me that's a pretty clear sign that opioids were not the problem, they were just the drug of choice and the problem is not being able to get through the day without being intoxicated. I know people that will only go to doctors that were addicts themselves, they feel like they're the only medical professionals that are able to understand where they're coming from. I don't like putting too much about myself out there but I'll just say that I was drinking more than I was comfortable with for like 10 years, last year I decided I was tired of it so I did some things and I got it under control, have like 16 months. I'd tried to stop before and never got more than a few months, the problem was that I'd never accepted that I was done. When you finally tell yourself that those days are over and stop looking at drinking/using like you have the ability to go back, it's a lot easier. I've got alcohol from when I stopped in my house right now and I know I'm not going to drink it because I don't give myself the option to do it, it's an inanimate object and it's got no power until I give it power! My party days are over, more power to you if you can party without a problem but I'm moving onto act II of life and I've gotta do stuff that's more important than catching a buzz. If I can go from the amount I was drinking to having alcohol in the other room I have no desire to drink, anybody can! Once it stops being an option in your brain, it gets way easier. That goes for any substance, they're all just chemicals that alter how people perceive reality and anyone who's struggling is struggling with dealing with life, substance abuse is just a symptom of that...

Tanx Joey! I think youre right here. No disease in my mind either. Joey has a point when he says that its a escape from this society, and its totaly normal to sometimes wana get away from it. What people need to remember is that after you been addicted to drugs it cant compere to the feeling of being clean and in control over youre body and soul as much as possible. Becouse in the begining of use you feel like you are in control, and maybe you are. But sadly that will not last my friend, trust me. Take care of that one day that comes and goes when you feel that sorbriety is a possibility and that enough is enough and start from there. And i strongly belive that you should take it slow when you come down, you know youre old "friend" by now and maybe its better to say goodbye in a calm way.

I feel like people make a bigger deal about addiction than what it is. I'm a casual smoker and drink on the weekends. Always have. But society looks down on people who smoke weed or take pills or meds. Even if they don't do it everyday. And even if it does relieve anxiety or help with pain. It's weird. It's almost like theres a temperance movement starting.
@Blunt_Man
@Blunt_Man Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I've never understood the idea behind how drinking til your liver fails is fine but God forbid someone takes some pain pills that are less harmful and cause zero long term damage to the body. It's all about self control, I've known dysfunctional drunks and functional heroin addicts, the world isn't black and white. I could care less what people do in the privacy of their own homes, all I care about is them hopefully using harm reduction practices. For some reason people seem to think because I support that, I automatically support people injecting heroin out in the open like in Kensington. No, those people are the same as someone who's drunk in public and should be treated the same. Responsible use is what's important, the actual substance is almost irrilivent imo.

Too be ill at ease within yourself, to feel uneasy, this can make a person more susceptible to use in order to feel better, more comfortable, regular uncontrolled use can lead to addiction , the lower you feel the more you value the high, the more you value it, the more you try to enjoy it, next thing you know you need it to get true the day and find it very difficult to stop and more importantly stay stopped, at this point for want of a better word you suffer from a disease, call it what you like but remember this, suboxone was created by scientists and pharmacists and its prescribed by doctors to their patients who suffer from opiate addiction, hence the use of the word disease, semantics ,not important , all life is suffering the Buddhists claim, in other words life itself is a disease a fatal one, the trick is to slow it down, your suboxone video was informative and inspirational and I get where your at on not wanting to dwell on the subject or let it define you, respect ! credit where credit is dew , know your triggers and remain vigilant, and if something tugs the string wake up and be careful ! success is waking up not feeling sick !

The subs worked for me. After about a year on subs I realized I didn't care about heroin anymore. I was just over it. Whole time I was on subs whenever I'd think of heroin I knew buying it would just be a waste of time and money so my mind would move on pretty quick. Eventually I stopped even thinking about it. Then I weened down on the subs and never looked back.

Man Joey. Mine is alcohol. But that conscience feeling. I have been experiencing that for about 6 or 7 months now? My friend Lina died on the couch, and she was one year younger than me from alcohol. And I keep thinking, "Do you want that to happen to you? You must not care, because you saw it for yourself how it can happen." And I think to myself these inner thoughts, "I must be a fucked up person." I quit shooting up 20 years ago, how come I can't quit drinking alcohol? Why am I making this so trivial? Why am I, man?

Withdraw is bad on opiates but alcohol can be harder. I’ve quit both and I had to just throw them away, I got on my knees and begged the creator for strength. I started back and had to do it again so never start back. I just said one day I’ll try one beer and within two weeks I was drinking everyday.

Addiction is not a disease. It's a side effect of extreme hopelessness. You see a lot of people with say a drinking "addiction" all of a sudden sit up straight and narrow after embarrassing themselves by getting a dui. If it were truly a disease, the only way you could get rid of it is through a medication. My gf has a food addiction. She's getting bigger and bigger by the month. She says she can't control her eating, yet, if someone at work told her she had a fat azz, she'd get mad and do something about it like eating less and exercising. She knows this because this is what motivated her to lose weight the last time she got into a slump!!!

Addiction most definitely is a disease. Just like any other disease you can eventually control it through hard work, it can go into remission or whatever but active addiction most definitely is a disease of the mind…. And just because you have it best today doesn’t mean you will tmrw, all it takes is a moment of weakness where u use and you’ll be off and running again. It’s why people who have been sober for 20-30 years suddenly suffer setbacks and all of the sudden they’re strung out again like Actors Phillip Seymour Hoffman or the Wires Michael K Williams or even recently Matthew Perry. For most people addiction is a life long battle, it definitely is a disease of the mind and one that can cost you your life if you don’t keep that demon in check.

Ay yo Joey! I got a question that is way off topic; how do you keep your hair from not being tangled and in knots? Lol my hair isn't as long as yours, but probably half your length (that's what (s)he said), but i have horrendous knots that can't be combed out and detangling spray is no match for these things (which is why i keep it tied up permanently now). I have grown my hair out manyany times before, and even had it longer than this, and never had a single issue. But now all of the sudden I'm dealing with big ass knots (and several of them) as of earlier this year i guess. It's gotten to the point to where it is almost impossible to wash my hair and get shampoo and conditioner evenly distributed, if you can imagine that. I started tying my hair up and wearing ponytaila and now mainly buns (i always said I'd never be a "man" bun person, but i have no choice), because otherwise I look like a mentally deranged person that escaped a mental hospital. A chick i know said i could got get them fixed for about $100, but I want to see if there's anything else i can do first. Oh, also, I'm part apache native American, so i have thick and straight hair (well, it used to be straight), now it's all kinked up and full of knots like a bird's nest. I thought if i can get these knots out, maybe i could get my hair trimmed and ...layered? Or thinned out? I don't know these terms very well, but yeah... do you comb the sht outta your hair everyday for like an hour or something?

I agree it's not a disease because it's not something you contract and more importantly it's a choice at the end of the day. When you come down with a medical disease it's not a choice. You may be making bad choice that contribute to a disease like heart disease from years of poor eating habits. But we don't say fast food addiction is a disease! It took me 10 years clean and sober to be to the point you just elucidated; could be right in front of me and I have no interest. Plus all that's out there is fety which it a shitty short high. My conscious is God speaking to me, I know it. When we go with that. our life changes for the better.

Lol when I was 15 I was made to go to an inpatient rehab. There was this far lady who would run the meetings sometimes. The one day she said I know what addiction is like, believe me. I've never drank alcohol or done drugs but I was addicted to chocolate cake. All over us just looked at each other like wtf did she just say!? We harassed her so bad after that she quit the job lmao😂

Lol. I know what you're saying but I get where she's coming from too. I was addicted to cigarettes and quit. Addicted to weed and quit. A binge drinker, and drug taker and quit. Now I'm addicted to sweets...I've gained 20lbs, I'm lethargic and for all I know, diabetic. Sugar is addictive and very destructive. Just as addictive as cigarettes, alcohol, cocaine, molly, speed, weed etc.

As someone who was born from crack and heroin addicted parents although I do agree with you on it not being a disease do you think people with drug addicted parents and being born with drugs in one’s system could pre wire someone to be disposed to addiction? Just curious.

@@minwhalee6630 no I mean I did take opioids like Vicodin in my younger years but besides that nah however I do smoke alot of weed and drink alot as well I don’t get drunk but I do drink daily they’re habits I know I can kick and have actively been reducing my intake but that’s about the only things I’ve done oh and LSD on and off weekly for about a year. Other than that I’ve never done “hard” drugs

I agree that the matrix we are now living in is in many ways crazy and oppressive in particular mainstream society and the desire to escape becomes the next thing- then food drugs sex gambling 🎰 shopping 🛍️ the internet 🛜 and at this point the conscious contact with the gods of your understanding starts to talk to you through the pain of your life and you realize that your tormentors are teaching you what is needed for you to evolve and if you are open to it then you will do the work to go to another level and if you make no effort to grow then you have an early checkout and then you are in the next phase whatever that is.. its all in divine order and I try to enjoy it as much as possible.. the good the bad times the happy and sad times life is still a gift and it takes courage just to live. Even having this channel fall in to my view out of the thousands of new videos being created every day is a mystery and I am grateful to be here 😇

Its literally just victim mentality. Are you a powerless pawn that lets life happen to you or are you in control of your actions thus creating your own problems?

I don't think so though. I think it's more to do with some people, for many reasons, have a hard time accepting this messed up society and they get a powerful urge to escape it.

No. Addiction STARTS with a choice. You choose to drink, you choose to try drugs.

fuck yeah joey, people need to realize now matter what youve done you can come back from it and have a good life. To say "I give up" and jjust continue what your doing, it feels nice to do but soon you will have ZERO quality of life even when you are high, unless you have tons of money. Heroin will take everything from you, meth is much easyer to quit.
