I love the park culture of San Francisco. Living in the Richmond, being 5 minutes from golden gate park is truly incredible. Then with a little drive, Dolores park, the marina, Crissy field, Alamo square. So many beautiful parks to take in and hang out at on a nice day

I discovered your channel a month ago and I value your videos so much. Native San Franciscan that left years ago and has felt like a refugee ever since. Worst thing is, it now feels like a forced exile. Have wanted to come home for years but can't afford it. I was the only person I knew that cried watching The Last Black Man in San Francisco. Like, really cried. Like this deep mourning for the City. Anyway, I'm really happy I found your channel. You're the real deal. Thank you

As a native who has been privileged enough to stay I balled my eyes out at that movie because it felt like an obituary to my city, a love letter to the city that was. This channel has helped me remember that my city was, is, and will be amazing. You'll make it back here. It may take some time but you'll be able to come back someday

Man I feel u I will probably be leaving the city in a few years because of rent it’s insane the living spaces for young ppl and low income ppl just get smaller and smaller I know a couple families who built a “shed” in their backyard where they help room other families this is very common especially in immigrant families as they need to stay together and it’s expensive

I was just about to write a similar comment to Yeshaya Amichai. Native San Franciscan in exile over here. It's so comforting to hear the San Francisco accent, my accent, and to see the city getting the love it's always deserved. Also....what high school did you go to? LOL!

S.I. The old one on Stanyan. The new S.I. is 5 blocks from where I lived [32nd&Rivera]: I could have walked/biked instead of needing to take 1 streetcar and 2 buses to get to 222 Stanyan St. . On the other hand, that house, 2 befrooms and a hall bathroom, just like nearly every Dinset house, was assessed at $1.3 million a few years ago. That's why I live in Oakland.

Great video, I've noticed the same negative trend on KZbin lately. I love San Francisco and also feel so lucky to be a part of the culture and diversity that makes this city great. The people are certainly my favorite part too... Everyone feels like they can be who they want here, we accept all. 👍

What I love most about San Francisco is that there are so many things you can do there. You can shop, eat, drink, walk, hike, go to beach, chill at the park, hit the museums and gardens, find a good beer garden......everything so close by and accessible. Climb a different hill every day. Try a different restaurant as often as you'd like, you'll never exhaust the possibilities. Rain or shine, it is a city chock full of adventure. Oh.....and let's not forget the fog. I love the fog. It adds an air of mystery and intrigue to the city's already interesting topography. i *WILL* live there some day!

I’m a San Franciscan since 1953. My grandma was a native. My grandfather fell in love with my grandma and moved here in 1945 from NY, and never went back and instilled my deep, abundant love for my city. I’ve been a SF tour guide for 25 yrs now. I’ve been challenged with how to respond to the vitriol and hate hurled on her. You have done it as only a true lover could! I love you for doing it so gallantly. Thank you.

I've lived here 10 years and it's an amazing city. No matter where you are, there is a park right around the corner. Golden Gate Park, the Presidio, Glen Park, John McLaren Park, Lands End, Lake Merced. 😍 The truth is I want to move somewhere rural and live a simpler life, but as far as cities go, you can't beat the City by the Bay. 🌁

I experience SF on an e bike 4 days a week delivering food in all the interesting hoods. I’ve rediscovered the city through its restaurants, parks, views and never get bored. Yes the homelessness, drugs, vandalism, crime, noise and the politics can get in the way of the enjoyment but I deal with it.

Man, thank you for making this! I was born in SF and lived/worked most of my life here. I became disenchanted with the city for a bit due, in part, to some of the stuff you addressed earlier in the video. Was also disgusted with Trump politics. I traveled around the world and now I'm back. Trying to see things with fresh eyes to some degree. These videos are such important reminders of why SF was, and will continue to be, great. You clearly have so much love and passion for SF, it makes me proud to be back home.

I wonder what they will rename the high school but it certainly does not deserve to have sir Francis Drake honored ,if more people only knew the real story of this pirate that stole whatever he could get his hands on whether it was valuables, land, food,- that is what’s buccaneer or pirate does to survive. Not to mention his participation in the slave trade and I will not be surprised if in order for him to steal things he had to hurt a lot of people 🤔

Love it! I'm a native, and a "city mouse." I don't even want to live in a nearby suburb. I feel so lucky that the diversity of a blend of cultures is my comfort zone. My parents always reinforced to us that we were so fortunate to live in a city where we could expand our own international experiences, and education. A fond memory is of the year that the World Cup was held in the Bay Area, anchored at Stanford. I, too, live in the Richmond district. All over the neighborhood, there were parties with excited fans of every country, cheering loudly, and flying flags from apartment windows. It was like having many days of an international festival. Excellent video.

So, Mr Yee, I moved to SF, when I was barely 18, in 1978. I was instantly infatuated by our city, while working full time, but homeless. I could tell you so many crazy, amazing stories, but here, I have to say, you are the first person, at least in a long time, that has been as enthusiastic as I have, about being in the best place on Earth. I feel like I have known you for years, even though we’ve never met. When I watch your videos, I feel so, at home with you. So glad to have met you…before the mustache, because you’re dashing both ways, but I like it! If there’s anything I can ever do to help you, let me know. I’m in Sunset, but I’m familiar with very nearly every sq ft.

One of my absolute favorite things about living in SF is when I'm driving home. Whether it's over the Bay Bridge or the GGB or even driving down that long sloping hill of Skyline Blvd near Fort Funston, for a minute or so I get a quick vista of multiple neighborhoods that just says 'yeah, this is SF, and you live here.' And I LOVE that feeling. I've felt that way since we moved to the city and 2005 and I can't imagine living anywhere else at this point. In particular I love how exiting the Robin Williams Tunnel going southbound reveals the iconic GGB towers and a letterboxed edition of the entire northern skyline of the city. Every single time it makes me smile and say 'okay, now you're just showing off.' :)

It's been my home for almost 12 years, and my family has lived here off and on since the 1940s -- I cherish my roots here. But it's heartbreaking how large our homeless population is, and we need to do so much more to get people off the streets. It's gotten so much worse in the last few years and it's connected to all of the reasons people hate on the city.

Ever since my first trip to SF 20 years ago, I’ve been enamored of the place. It’s unique in some many ways. I still very much associate it with the music scene I came of age listening to in the 60s. So many of the groups I still listen to - the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Crosby, Stills, & Nash, etc. were SF-based. So I would add its place in music to your list of what’s great about San Francisco.

There are four important cities in the United States. San Francisco creates the new by blending many things together or now innovating. Los Angeles makes up the stories and the dreams we tell ourselves about ourselves as Americans. New York figures out how to make money off of the previous two and Washington, D.C. works out the rules to decide how it all works. I'm over simplifying of course, but in essence those are the functions of the most important places in the U.S. Which one would you rather be in? The one that makes the rules? The one that is focused mostly on making a buck? The one that is chasing pretty dreams, but is mostly about surface and isn't itself much of a place or the place where the new is being made all the time by the mix of many things? It's in our DNA as a community going back to the Gold Rush, people looking to make a new life by striking it rich mostly just made a new place, distinct and different from the old and cycle after cycle after cycle that has been our legacy. Sometimes in our effort to create we over reach and things get out of hand, but that's part of the risk we take to be creators to make a more just and fair place. If you don't like the side effects of those risks you can always move to Denver or Orlando or something.

A lot of negative stuff is from people politically against what they perceive this city stands for. I will only comment that when people slam SF for its homeless issue, do realize this city is caring for not just "our" homeless population, but unhoused folks from all over the country who drift west until they hit the Pacific.

1. You can find great, diverse food in pretty much any US city so that really isn't much of a defense: if you have to pretend that you live in the only place with ethnic restaurants then your city blows. 2. Almost any US city has ethnic diversity and SF has a pretty intolerant history even by US standards. 3. But the price of those views comes with hills that makes transportation a nightmare. 4. The is one cause behind your city's nightmarish cost of living: Houston or Chicago can simply keep sprawling out to keep housing relatively okayish unlike SF. 5. Oh yes the people: san francisco's charming cast of quirky characters like sociopathic nimbies, soulless tech drones and people who think flying pride flags over homeless camps will make everything okay. The homeless crisis has proven that SF residents are a pretty heartless, sociopathic bunch.

You might be able to find diverse food in any US city, but only a few gives you the chance to eat diverse food all within walking distance without having to drive for miles. And you are actually going to complain about hills affecting transportation?

@@patrisio3 I've had amazing Ethiopian food in Raleigh, spectacular middle eastern chow in San Antonio and great Filipino food in Jacksonville - so there are a lot of towns with tons of ethnic restaurants within walking distance. Why yes I am - since the hills make walking in your town physical torture.

@@JoeyYee So do you have anything to justify the insane decision to live in a caste system by the bay other than pretending your city is the only place with ethnic neighborhoods?

Sounds to me like San Francisco is not your kind of town so please... don't visit! There are so many other cities that would interest you more and be surrounded by like-minded people.

The city is just beautiful. From the parks to the restaurants and nightlife, to the hiking and bike rides, it emulates beauty and every city should be jealous. Now let's just fight to solve the issues in the city to bring it back to it's old glory days please. 🌉✌

I feel so lucky to live here! Even with the challenges there's no place I'd rather be. My #6 would be the access to nature we have with a mild climate all year round.

It's harder and harder to stay positive these days, but after 30+ years of living here I'm still discovering places and corners of SF I haven't seen before and still do it by mostly walking around!
