Elli hikes

Күн бұрын

In April 2023, I set off on my biggest adventure so far: A 1600mile long hike all across Britain from Dunnet Head in Scotland to Lizard Point in Cornwall. I'm going solo with my rescue dog Otto, (wild) camping along the way.
Come along for days 28 to 30 that were dominated by mixed emotions. I hiked one of my favorite stretches of the West Highland Way and enjoyed some breathtaking scenery but also had some very hard days: horrible pain, the realisation that I got plantar fasciitis, a lot of anxiety and doubts whether I can continue hiking and some forced rest days…
Route:
Glencoe Mountain Resort-Inveroran
Inveroran-Bridge of Orchy
Bridge of Orchy-Tyndrum
I’m regular uploading new videos (though probably not always on the exact same day every week).
Please subscribe (it’s free :)) if you want to stay up to date and support my work. That would really mean a lot!
If you enjoy the videos and want to support our adventure with a treat for Otto and a coffee for me:
www.buymeacoff...
ko-fi.com/elli...
My dream is to make a living out of my passion for being outdoors, hiking and creating videos that brighten your day - and your support means the world and I’m really grateful!
On our hike we also try to raise funds for the Green Forest Fund and the WWF. Feel free to support our charity if you can: www.betterplac...
Thank you so much!

It's better to be bord in a tent than in a hospital !!! You have done so well on your adventure now give yourself a week and make sure you're 100% to continue after all you don't want to risk doing any permanent damage. Take care.

Been there not fun. Totally get you. You are being sensible. Rest then slowing moving but its forward and it’s better than long term damage. I soaked my foot in a cold lake Otto is the best company :) follow you instincts. I’m a AT 2000 miler cheering for you and Otto. Trail on!🥾🐕

I had PF in both feet and cured it in a few weeks. It's the ligament thing so it takes weeks/months (sorry Elli). I stopped walking until it was fixed. Since it wanted to stretch out (flattening feet?) I decided to work with it, so kept it stretched, so it could re-form longer. Whenever I was sitting in a chair I rested my toes on a block of 2" wood to increase the angle. When I went to bed I used a bandage to keep the foot at a right angle to replicate ^ wrapping it around the toes and around my ankle in a X shape I worked out it was likely caused by my calf muscle strength so kept them stretched as well. Best speak to a qualified podiatrist. Just looked and I can't believe all the products out there when you can just DIY ...and all the taping, I can't see how taping the skin does anything. +10:01 that's a good way to keep it stretched +10:07 bounce stretching is a good way to tear it How is Otto feeling about the camping ?

Otto seemed quite happy, always something going on on a campsite 😅🙈 Thank you so much! It's really interesting how you become an expert on your own feet very quickly by trying different things and see what works....

Thank you so much! I learned that I have very high arches already and the insoles made it worse..... had to learn this the hard way as you start to observe yourself.... 😅🙈

I've had it. Sat on me arse for months. Nothing happened so walked it off. Painful at first but you have to stretch it out past the damaged bit so will heal correctly.

Sorry to hear it's PF, it's not something that is very predictable when it will heal. I admire your patience and being sensible in resting. I'm currently having heel pains which I'm sure are PF. Sometime too much walking is bad, but equally not walking much is also bad! It's frustrating but hang in there and you'll be back on your way soon

That must be really frustrating having to stop when you just want to get on with the adventure. The upside is that you are "stuck" in an incredible place.

I'm catching up with your videos, having just returned home from almost three weeks in Scotland. So sorry about the PF, that's nasty. Maybe by now you are feeling better? I wonder if it could be that after many miles on the trail the insoles of your shoes have got a bit flattened and are no longer giving you enough support? My wife had PF and she got some Superfeet insoles. They seemed to help a lot and although the PF took a week or two to get better, she hasn't had any problem since. They would definitely be much better than a squashed bit of polystyrene. (Other makes are available too of course.) It was a bit strange watching this video because I was at this campsite three weeks ago, it is one of my favourites. You definitely weren't there then though, I would have noticed another X-Mid - and you and Otto too, of course. And you didn't mention the heat. Or the midges!

Thank you so much! Yes, I've ordered new shoes and insoles to help fix the problem.... the videos are a bit behind, since it's taking some time to edit and upload them which is why you didn't see me in Tyndrum. Was there before the midges and the heat! Hope your trip to Scotland was great, it's such a great place for hiking 🥰

Plantar faaciitis could end your hike. Release all the tension in your legs and feet and allow the inflammation to heal properly. I feel sorry to tell you that walking might be the worst thing you could do. The more it is established the harder it is to shift it. At one time I had it for 1 1/2 years continuously because I'd ignored it initially. No treatment helped, in fact some worsened it. I did not believe I would hike again. Then, over the period of about a month it just went away completely without any explanation. I pray that it is no more than a brief interruption in your adventure. Best wishes
