The 3rd section has arrived into the Romanian folklore as a kid song: Cucule cu pana sura, Cookoo with gray feathers.

This son of Bach is the less known of the four, but we can hear that his talent was all except negligeable. What a beautiful music, both delicate and firm!

I’m going to get shot down here but me thinks I doth hear more than a smattering of Joseph Haydn in the mix.

He reminds me a bit of Boccherini. Nice classical style, nothing that really stands out.

Maybe it's odd that J.S. is the least favourite of mine of the Bach family, but all that contrapuntal stuff, tinkletinkletinkle, with no change of pace, really got on my nerves. I first heard it by Glenn Gould, but he always sounds like a machine to me, and then I heard it by Angela Hewitt, and it still irritated me. C.P.E. is the one I like best, but I'll listen to J.C.F. any time. Thank you.

I am not a fan of J. S's Well-Tempored Clavier either. I have never understood why the classical music community speaks so highly of it. However, I love his concertos and sonatas. I think that J.S. borders on a romantic style with some of his concertos, which are very emotional and expressive.

Methinks they speak highly of it is because it IS a very difficult piece to play, and for lack of a better word, 'technical'. Nonetheless, I don't like it.

+oldfartatplay1320 Might I suggest Christophe Rouset, Skip Sempe, Bob van Asperen, or Pierre Hantai, as opposed to Glenn Gould or Angela Hewitt. =)

This kind of music is easier to follow, as is most of the music of the Classical Era. It is more simply structured, and the harmonies are commonplace and distinct. Bach's counterpoint cannot be tasted if it is not savoured with the utmost concentration; it's quite simple - you need a higher degree of musical intelligence to truly enjoy baroque, and Bach very specifically.
