Burlap! I think that's the straw type material you're talking about. Definitely not shiny. Thank you for all of your great tips! I've gained so much confidence from following you. 😊

I thought she meant raffia because its strands of straw gathered together. Burlap is a type of cloth that can be cut and sewn.

That's a lot of presents! When my parents were still living, my siblings and I would gather our spouses and children and have a huge celebration at our parents' home. They always had a huge tree, but by the time presents for 10 adults and 7 grandchildren were stacked underneath and around the tree, it seemed to diminish in size. There would be such a riot of colors in the wrappings and bows. We'd choose paper with children's designs for the grandchildren, and more traditional colors for the adults. By the time everyone arrived and had the packages they brought stacked around the tree, my brother, the Civil Engineer, would get concerned that they'd soon topple; so he'd carefully restack them into some sort of architectural "masterpiece." We'd good-naturedly tease him about how precisely he'd work. But the wonder in our children's eyes was the best of all. It must have seemed like a mountain of presents to the little ones! There was certainly a mountain of paper, ribbons, and boxes left over afterwards!
