The andante is one of the most beautiful movements ever! Superb execution.

The two fist SQ's, in C and A minor, were more or less dramatic or at least full of the uttermost sadness. This one is in major mode and in a very clear and transparent expression. It begins just like a SQ dialog by HAYDN. Brahms' lovers do not know his quartet enough, and this one is the least known of the three. And however, it exhibits a specific feature of the composer's mood and genius. ❤❤❤

This is such a special piece and very underrated. It really stands out from everything he wrote and i love it so much. Each movement is perfect

Love this quiet moment 11:23. This is my favorite Brahms quartet, not sure whether because it was the first of his I heard or because it fit my mood in 1975. Heard it dozens of times that year, heard countless quartets since. If there's a better one, I'd like to hear about it. Recently I heard Mozart's No. 14. Unsure whether it was Haydn or Mozart, I said to myself: whoever wrote this is the greatest composer. Would have to hear both quartets again to ascertain whether this Brahms is indeed superior to all others ever written, or whether nostalgia plays a role.

Erg mooie uitvoering. Fijne tempi. Samenspel gaat uit van gelijkwaardigheid. De balans tussen en kleur van de thema's spreekt mij aan. Hulde !

Can you tell us the instruments you play? They sound wonderful! The mastery of the players makes them really sing.

Thanks for your words ! Sylvia (1st violin) plays on a Carlo Ferdinando Landolfi violin from around 1750. Mirelys (2nd violin) on a F. Gagliano built in Naples in 1778. Martina (the former viola player), plays on a viola by Giorgio Corsini, made in Roma in 1960. Honorine (the cellist) plays a Bernardel Père from 1866.

This is Brahms' third string quartet op, 67, and definitely not op. 67 nr 3. (just one quartet in that opus number).

This quartet is not nearly as good as the rest of Brahms' chamber music.

It is perhaps only the third best of his string quartets, but it is still mighty good.
