Beautiful performance. Ottensamer's sound is the epitome of the German clarinet sound - dark, rich, smooth. One can imagine one is listening to the legendary Mühlfeld himself. Contemporary descriptions of his playing could easily be describing Ottensamer. Gabetta and Lazic are also world class chamber musicians and contribute equally to the overall brilliance and beauty of the performance. One of the greatest performances of this piece recorded in recent years.

One can hear the harmonious majestic symmetry in the trio. The three performers are virtuosos. It is a pleasure to hear for the first time pianist Dejan Lazić. Fabulous sensitive pianist. Brahms composition is so peaceful it feels one's mind close to the celestial imagination.

Came to know this work when I was about 20 and it made a deep impact on me, maybe because it is so dedicated to the clarinet and to close play. I feel Brahms got very personal in his clarinet works. I am now 59 ...

The musical tone in Brahms Clarinet Trios has the symmetry and beauty of a melancholic mood, as stated by Mr G. Begni. It stirs emotions, suspenseful, gripping melancholic and historical. It reflects Brahms sad and lonely life.

This trio uses r the same combination than the trio op. 11 of Beethoven, but the clarinet us used in a much more melancholic mood, though its low register. The voice of the cello adds a tone of its own to that mood. This is indeed an autumn song, the automn of Brahms' life, who had decided to stop composing but was pushed to go on when he discovered all the capacities of the clarinet with a virtuoso.

Faithful performance of what the Master wanted to tell us. The merit of "MAIM" - MUSIC AS iNTENDED BY THE MASTER" (as Furtwaengler, Karajan ua showed and played) is somehow rare these days. And this is a correct and wonderful performance. Golden seal.
@dennisdougherty7538
@dennisdougherty7538 7 жыл бұрын
Faithful in spirit and clear in technique. The "Master" of composition gives us the musical score along with our knowledge of period stylistic traits. It is now up to us (modern performers and instruments) to bring it to our interpretation. After the pages are finished, the "Master" of composition must relinquish all artistic suggestions to the "Masters" of performance. These performers do just that and are "Masters" of personal interpretation and ensemble agreement. A few things were very modernized and I can't say I agree with them: The higher pitch and the equally tempered piano sort of spoil the artistic enrichment; but with what they had available (including the live set-up restrictions of the audio, they did as fine as we could have expected.

Does the clarinetist use a Legere reed? That's rare. It may be the recording, of course, but his tone sounds a bit thin....light and French.....but thin. I'm wondering if that could be the result of using a Legere rather than a cane reed? In my experience, Legere reeds are stable but greatly limit the color palette of the sound one can produce.

I love this!! (with understanding reservation). The Oehler system clarinet is masterfully played and shows its superior tuning capabilities when in ensemble here with the exceptional cellist. The problem here (besides A-440 and higher being "out-of-tune" with nature) is that the piano spoils the whole thing (not the pianist) by using the false sounding Equal Temperament system. Artist like Andreas and Sol should insist on a "genuine master" tuner - they have earned it!

If I would have been at the concert, I would spend the whole time thinking what kind of disagreement they had before going on stage. Such romantic music beeing played with such visible anger? (SG) You can hear it even without looking at the video. Nice passion and everything but next time better play back to back.

Hmm... why does the sound recording come across as muffled? All the highs frequencies sound so dull. And does Sol always look so stern when she is playing? A little more lightness in expression would do her good. And Andreas is a fine example that sometimes life isn't fair. His looks alone would win him all the ladies, but then he is also a genius at his instrument. So what should we average males do in comptetion with him, other than concede total defeat? ;)

basically you're telling the woman to smile... which is obviously relevant to musical performance...

The recording sounds muffled because the mics are behind the clarinet and cello. I get that they wanted to get the piano, but the overall placement of the mics are not correct. Bit of a shame as these three played a beautifully executed performance. (and if there are mics in front of them, then they are simply to far away and I don't think there are any in front of them.) (hint: they can actually place the mics lower to the ground and out of video view point, just need to make sure they are sitting on a little piece of carpet. Believe me, you'll be surprised how well it works)

Has anyone noticed the clarinettist and the pianist smiling, grinning, a-chuckling and a-chortling? Thought not. The cellist is actually the "smiliest" of the 3. As if it mattered.

As a clarinetist I can tell you that we avoid vibrato. It is something that generally sounds bad on the instrument and is bad for our technique. We make up for it with beautiful, clear tone, and other musicality. Imagine telling a pianist to play with wide vibrato. It's just not something we do.
