I appreciate the different lenses of Christology and that this previously taught concept was reviewed & added upon. I would posit that Christ has even intentionally portrayed himself through different lenses of Christology via the number of roles He plays--past, present, future--in the Plan of Salvation while having these records written by various persons at various times from various cultures so that we have a better understanding of His overall character & nature, which adds to our understanding of Heavenly Father as well. I appreciate taking time with the word play of 'Logos.' It's interesting in Spanish the "Word" (in German 'Wort') in John 1:1 is "Verbo," or 'verb' in English. That's interesting: 'palabra' is the Spanish equivalent of 'word.' Verb is a word that gets things done. As a language teacher, I love the increased knowledge & perspective provided by breaking down verses in different languages. Strictly defining 'comprehension' vs 'knowledge' is a powerful idea as well, and one that seems to come up now & again. When mentioning the Light, I was reminded of someone bearing testimony and describing their previous despair before finally finding their way to the Church; they said that if there was so much darkness in the world, there must also be as much light, and they searched for the Light. Connecting convenants like the Abrahamic to Christ and onward to our potential through Him is foundational & essential knowledge to understand how marvelous is the miracle of our salvation. Seeing connections between D&C 93, John 1, Exodus 33 & 34 does so much to tie together everything we're trying to do as we grow in the Gospel. Joseph Smith's critique pointing to the Father always bearing record of His Son is awesome and certainly by design. Part 2: it seems like the Lord goes to great lengths to provide weight/significance to events by way of timing, names, geography, etc. that enriches those events with layers of symbolism from which we can learn & appreciate more fully as we are able to comprehend each layer. Thanks for helping me peel back layers surrounding Jordan, Jericho, Bethlehem, the Dead Sea, Jesus's baptism, etc. Just a side note, the fact that this scripture comes to us through John the Beloved, John the Revelator, John who yet tarries on the Earth like the three Nephites with work still to do until the Savior comes is so cool. Lastly, thank you to your team for your dedication as you produce these excellent videos; I don't usually say much, and I don't usually miss an episode either. I'm not concerned much about mic quality, lighting, video duration, etc. While these videos aren't a replacement for studying the scriptures, they are--as a supplemental aid--precious as gold in my hand. Y'all take care 😊

It helps me tremendously when you share the different translations of the bible and the meaning of words or expressions in other languages to and from which the bible was translated. Cultural context is also extremely important to me. These types of insight help me understand the teachings of Christ and His character better. It also inspires me to study the scriptures as opposed to just read them. The first part of John 1 in your video has unlocked something in my mind and heart that I will be pondering on and building upon forever. Thank you.

I really like the detail that went into describing the exchange between Nathaniel and the Savior. It made me feel like I was there watching the exchange. It humbled me to feel like I was there watching the Savior have an exchange with someone. I cannot imagine being in his presence and how I would truly react. My head bows at the thought of Him being near me. Sometimes it's hard to feel like He's anywhere near me in ordinary life, but He really is. I need to remember that He is always near and act in a pleasing manner to Him at all times. We all need the reminder that He really is near us always. Thank you. ❤️

Son of Man is, a confusing term, unless you understand that the Man Jesus Christ is referring to, as the Only Begotten of God the Father, IS the Man of Holiness 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰- What a feast for the soul.

Another reflection: 'He was among them, but they knew him not' reminds me of how Jesus walked away from a 'lynching' party, right through the crowd, and they didn't notice or see him. So much is done right before our eyes, but we must focus our spiritual sight to comprehend it!

I loved the first part of the lesson about “logos.” I agree that “you cannot seek any truth on any topic without beginning first with the Word Himself.” I don’t think any college degree is a well-rounded education, without a solid foundation on theology. At 00:06:00 I finally understand why John started the chapter this way. I finally understand why Jesus refers to Himself as the Word. Maybe there are even more layers to this. 00:08:14. 00:18:17 00:24:20 - 00:26:00 After studying the Old Testament and diving into the New, I can see Jesus all over it and throughout it.

I think it is wonderful to have different accounts of the Saviour's time on earth. I love the insight about the meaning of the word *Jordan*. Gosh, everything is connected and it's beautiful. These little bits of information further remind me that everything with the Lord is planned to a T. I love the word 'Moral Compass'. I enjoyed the whole discussion on the birth of the Saviour and being made into flesh. There were so many profound insights in this one discussion alone. I thought about this notion of the Lord not understanding some of life's hard trials or some of the things we go through because he is God as mentioned in 23.32. Looking at my own experiences, I know he understands everything. Every trial, every pain, every tear even our insecurities, pretty much everything and all of it. Yes, he's God, but his time on earth has enabled him to understand us personally. With the guidance of the scriptures and words of the Prophets, it does help put this concept into perspective. The spirit is an excellent help of course. Recently I was a bit annoyed with a family member for not being realistic and living in a fantasy land about everything. This behavior of not facing reality impacted others. I have told this person nicely in several ways, and have encouraged this person to be real about situations. During this time I was reminded of a book I read years ago called 'The Bluest Eye' by Toni Morrison. It's a book about an individual who had a traumatic upbringing. The main character believed she had blue eyes and believed she was someone else and not the painful reality she lived. I know the spirit brought this book to my attention for a reason. When I thought about the book, I thought about this person and started to feel bad for my judgments of this person. The thought came to mind 'you weren't there when this person suffered painful things, and you weren't there when this person had to pick themselves up and carry on.' I was put in my place. I thought about this person, the book, and the counsel I was given. And of course, my attitude changed. I am grateful for the schooling of the spirit. There have been many other instances and experiences where I have come to know just how intimately the Lord knows us. I was thankful to be given another viewpoint of the situation, as I don't want to have a biased mindset, it needs help from the Lord to undo incorrect perceptions. The Lord understands us because he has lived like a human too, and he knows how challenging it is. Coming back to this notion of the Lord not understanding us because he is God? The Lord gets us, I can vouch for that. That is the gift of the Saviour, that is the blessing and guidance of his spirit and that is the power of his atonement. Sorry SC for the long essay. I am trying not to write long comments. Thank you Bro Halverson and Bro Griffin for an amazing presentation as always. I love having you two as my teachers ❤️.

We were born into our earthly bodies here but didn’t come from here. The earth was organized for this part of our Eternal journey. Jesus was different to us as he had a Heavenly Father and an earthly mother. We have only earthly parents. This was the plan. Our walk across time is earth bound without solid recollection of Eternity. Jesus had both. He was as we will possible be. It was necessary as he would not have been able to suffer as he did and then rise again. What an amazing son of our Father and brother to us all to take this upon himself. If you think his amazing courage and love for us all. What a powerful and committed son of Father in Heaven. A loving brother who gave his all to Fulfil our progression across Eternity. He was and will be the only Savior. I am so grateful for his great love and commitment.

I remember in one of my lessons in Institute, in Ezekiel 47 gives Ezekiel's vision of how water will yet flow from underneath the temple in Jerusalem and flow to the east, becoming larger and larger until it becomes a river of water. The river will flow into the Dead Sea and make it “alive” again with fish and vegetation. The blessings of the temple gives life to everyone of us. I love how dead sea was use to show the greatness of God in scripture. I love all the symbolisms from the Bible and it's so amazing especially when you understand its meaning.

T&T Brothers, one thought I find to be interesting is WHOM he called to be his Disciples (John1:39-51). These chosen ones were WORKING about their trade which tells me something about their work ethic. To contrast this, from WHOM does Satan calls his disciples? The idle and those who are full of mischief. These are they, who never got the memo on HOW to work which sure seems to shape character and self- respect. Just a casual observation regarding the Dead Sea. I truly floated much more than as a youth in the Great Salt Lake !! BTW, the Dead Sea is dying even more and drying up at an alarming rate. NO FISHING TRIPS TO THE DEAD SEA !!!

What an interesting observation - that the original disciples were hard workers while Satan calls his disciples from those who are idle and full of mischief. Profoundly obvious and therefore important - the moment we pause to reflect on it. Thanks for articulating what I, at least, on the rare occasions when I've thought about the disciples' work, failed to consider. I had dwelt only on the disciples' (relative) prosperity and therefore greater worldly sacrifice by abandoning their work than if they had been idle. I had missed what, as you reminded us, is a common contrast: that between the idle hands/minds typically associated with the recruits to the cause of wickedness (often from affluent comfort) with the enlisted disciples' industriousness. I'd venture, however, on further reflection that there is, at least among the leaders/the most capable among the adversary's recruits, generally (and predictably, because we all are subject to the laws of effort) no such contrast in industriousness once the dark side's recruits are up and running. But you covered that with your 'full of mischief' category anyway. Focusing on the 'idle' category, your valuable comment remains a thought-provoking topic in itself, being very sensibly, limited more to the traits of recruitees at the time of recruitment rather than than their post recruitment qualities. Your observation is supported by the reality that the devil doesn't need active recruiting. The natural man in us does his bidding anyway. All he needs is to keep as many of us as possible away from God, whatever 'side' we are on, or claim to be on. That said, when turning to leadership on both sides, it seems useful to reflect that the chief enemies of Christ and promoters of evil in general were/are, as I'm sure we'd all agree, extraordinarily driven - Saul pre Damascus, Alma the Younger pre angelic visitation, Jezebel, Herod - practically all of legions of them throughout the ages, including current activists/politicians trying to destroy Christ and His godly teachings/values. Of course, again you covered this, by listing the adversary's recruits as 'full of mischief' which by definition involves much mental and external activity. So, as you indicate, the adversary uses the driven and the idle alike. Could it be that while the leading anti-Christ zealots are invariably driven and therefore very busy, their recruits are (at least initially) often not driven in any way, which is your key point? In our secular world, we've always had the extraordinary industriousness of a whole range of high achievers, for both good and ill - sometimes/often in the same person (Bill Gates appears to be one among many), moving in his case through life from (arguably) a useful boon to humanity to, over a few short years, a highly questionable/oppressive (on examination) operator by thinking and leading, bolstered by billions, way outside his core skillset. Depends of course, even then on whether such a titan's agenda is good for us or not. In Gates' terms, I expect he sincerely believes he continues to serve the world. Easy for leaders to overestimate their supposed abilities. Hitler (synonymous as he is with evil, driven by delusional thinking leading to those evil outcomes) was, psychologists point out, obsessed with cleanliness: common sense becomes demonic vice, with genocide being a shocking 'final solution' to a delusional misunderstanding of the boundaries of cleanliness. Population control? Too many people anyway, the Gatesist Eugenicists argue. Christ as Jehovah's 'Multiply and replenish the earth' v Eugenics. Christ and the rights of the unborn child v 'A woman's right to choose'. Hard, intelligent, committed workers are, once enlisted, including the formerly idle, very much needed by the adversary too. It was always so! Always will be. Of course, your point is supported by the truth that the idler we are, the less use we are to our Heavenly Father. As Burke reminds us, 'All that is needed for evil to triumph is for good men to do absolutely nothing'. To that extent, the more idlers that join the hard workers in the adversary's team, the better it is for him. Just as God prefers hot or cold recruits, and detests lukewarm attitudes, so it seems does the adversary when it comes to his own elite troops. Though he naturally delights in turning God's servants from hot to lukewarm or cold. More than that, he desperately needs as much apathy from all of us identifying with Christ as possible. That thought should help us avoid casualness in our relationship with our Heavenly Father. Vital to keeping our adversary perpetually at bay.

Thank you Brother Griffin for explaining that Jesus Christ is the Word of God. The word “Word” in John 1:1 was translated from the Greek word “Logos,” which means a thought, a concept, or an idea. In our day-to-day life, we use words to communicate with each other. When person A wants to share a thought or feeling with person B, he usually encodes it in spoken or written words. When person B hears the spoken words or reads the written words, he decodes them to understand what was communicated. If good communication has taken place, then what person B understands will be very similar to what person A communicated. The words become the medium between person A and person B through which communication takes place. This illustrates the power of words in human communication. In the context of John 1:1, we are person B and God the Father is person A. He communicates what He wants us to know, do, and become through Jesus Christ. In other words, the Savior becomes the Word that God the Father “speaks” to communicate His message to us-His message of mercy, love, and sacrifice (see “He Sent His Son,” Children’s Songbook).

We love Tyler and Taylor's lessons. I find them to be very knowledgeable and insightful. Thank you so much! There are a couple of things I think it would add more value to the experience... first, I find the new dark background to be just too dark, almost uninviting. The gospel is a gospel of light...the dark background just does not imply that very well. The other thing is the length of the lessons. They seem to just keep getting longer. I find that towards the end, I have a hard time remembering what was shared... I feel it's because of too much information, like the brain is overloaded. Thank you for your time, attention, and hard work.

I don't mean to be demeaning, I would just like some clarity, and I would LOVE to have your insight on those specifically. Thanks for all you do!!❤️

I love where Nathanael is incredulous that Jesus comes from the "nothing" place of Nazareth. Our KJV place name, Nazareth - as I understand it, actually derives from "Netzerit" - I've heard if u go to Israel and ask where Nazareth is, you'll be looked at quizzically - and it is known as Netzerit, meaning a "knot" or dead stump of wood (olive wood) or more precisely, the stem arising out of seemingly dead olive wood- which is likely to be old, twisted and gnarly. So, here we have Jesus, the Stem of Jesse, will breathe new life into corrupted Israel. He IS the new growth that arises out of the seemingly old and gnarled, dead- looking olive tree stump (Israel) - The Netzerit, from Nazareth. This study of New Testament has just come alive for me, Thankyou so much.

The shadows that the two of you cast on the white board because of your front light is very bothersome and distracting!

Joseph Smith recieved revelation that the circumcision was done away in Christ. Christ took on him 'flesh' and the ordinance of circumcision was fulfilled. No longer did man need 2be sensitive to the spirit. because the spirit of God, in old testament, took on flesh. The circumcision way done away in the flesh of Christ. The word No other creature uses words to communicate. Not that Christ was anything less than the word that he gave to us. The word is God. Setting understanding of him in the means to speak. He gave us the greatest gifts, life and word and eternal spirit. The image of Moses, the greatest Law giver has a full faced image in the scared chamber of the House of Representatives in Washington DC. No other image in that chamber has two eyes. The image is the person directly over the exit door directly facing the speaker of the house.
